One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

There is no economy so I'd quit and live off my peers.

"You're one in a million" means there are like 7000 people just like you.

In stock, you need to be in a polar orbit within a specific altitude range and have a comms connection to Kerbin and enough power to transmit all data in one go. The game will tell you, when you try to scan, what the correct altitude range is if you are outside it. The only way I know of to find the power requirement is to try to send and hopefully not fail. If your vessel satisfies all the requirements you instantly get a full map of the planet and get to keep it forever for that save. This is totally unrelated to comms relays, though the transmission can use (but does require) a relay.

I made a triangular support out of pistons and hinges for engines, that allows me to translate them back and forth across my craft to keep them on the COM. It may be not 100% easy to see but the vertical (actually horizontal to the ground on landing) piston is the only robotic part with a motor. The two hinges and the diagonal piston are all just going where they're pushed by the motorized piston. Where the engine is, a strut holds the engine to a cubic octo strut, that is attached to the hinge that is on the unmotorized piston. It works quite well, and I'm using RCS Build Aid to make sure the engines can reliably push forward no matter how mcuh or how little fuel or ore is in the ship.

Latest 1.7.1: Wobbly Ships - Again
Superfluous J replied to T3Kaos's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you want help, post pictures of your craft. If you just want to complain, then I'll have to disagree with you. With proper attention to solid design mechanics, I can pretty much get anything I want to orbit, bone-stock or with dozens of mods. -
How to orbit without turning off engines
Superfluous J replied to Nendra's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Also astronautics engineers are tasked with cutting the cost of something that costs literally millions of dollars. 1% savings can be the difference in them getting paid or fired. So unlike us (even in the slightly-less-of-a-toy-but-still-just-a-toy-compared-to-real-life "realistic" mods) who can just keep trying things until it works good enough, they are very motivated to get exactly as much utility out of the craft, and do design the craft to have exactly the utility it needs. And coasting upwards is wasting some of the thrust you used, so they design their rockets to use less thrust lower in the atmosphere, so the engines weigh less and they can push them further. Whereas we just toss a few more SRBs on it and call it a win. -
If you do, it'll be funny when someone comes into this thread and asks who are you to suggest The Dunatian changes his name. However I can't say that's a good reason to do so. If it makes a difference, as a KSP forum name I personally prefer The Dunatian to Boris Badenov.

[1.8.x] DMagic's Modlets - Most KSP 1.8 Updates [10-29-2019]
Superfluous J replied to DMagic's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Yeah though there will be some flexing at joints as they try to move. No more or less than with stock struts. I'll look o.k.in The settings again to be sure. I'd ratherit only make the map bigger but I'll take the whole window for sure. That window is so small! I've not used Scansat in so long I should probably give it another look. -

I thought I checked there. -
Not a mod but I can answer that one. They're awesome. I leave it up to the reader to decide if I mean the pictures, or the mods. But seriously most people who stay on a forum for more than a few months tend to customize their profile a bit. Most of those who have been on a forum more than a year have fully done do. Moderators tend to fall into the latter category, and those that don't fall in the former.

[1.8.x] DMagic's Modlets - Most KSP 1.8 Updates [10-29-2019]

I seem to have misunderstood "allows for adjusting the UI scale of the window." In the OP. What does that mean if not the size of the window? What you call problems I call the reason to use EVA Struts. I want to lock down a robotic setup that would otherwise be wobbly, with the option to later unlock it so it can move. -
Do you play with G-Force and Pressure Limits on?
Superfluous J replied to jpinard's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I turn them on every 4th or 5th time I start a new career. I never really notice them and don't like the "make me pass out" contracts (though the first set of ships was fun to make), so the next few careers I don't use them. Then I start thinking maybe it'd be fun so I try them again, and I'm wrong. -
Can someone explain this contract?
Superfluous J replied to SamTheShark's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There's a surface feature named crater. I think you need to scan one of those. I found one but haven't done anything with it. The contract should tell you in what biomes one can be found. -
For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Superfluous J replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I think it's more like the idea of an aquatic tank that generates some form of consumable, like a water cistern or even a lobster tank at a restaurant. It sits there and the consumable (water, lobsters, ideas) come out.
