I know how that goes. "But wait, what if I need to totally fill TWO Jool 5's at the same time?"

I'm kinda in both camps. Sometimes I want to be super efficient. Sometimes I just want to get that thing into space so I toss a couple huge fuel tanks and some mammoths under it.

Direct insertion to Tylo orbit (math check)
Superfluous J replied to Nicias's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yup it's the only way I'll Jool-5 -
Bought it, played it, liked it. It's kind of a lighter Elite Dangerous with real(ish) orbital mechanics, Lego-style ship building and some... interesting UI choices. I'll probably keep with it at least for a while. Failed my first salvage mission by accidentally ramming the package at way too many m/s. Reminds me of my first docking attempt in KSP.

Certain searches break the forum software?
Superfluous J replied to RocketSquid's topic in Kerbal Network
if you search for "site:forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com coatl" on Google it'll come up. It's how I search for pretty much everything here. -
Imagine Jeb is in a sea of capsules, each with unique data. How would you take the data from only one capsule if you were right clicking him? Or how about if he's next to a flag you want to remove. You'd right click the flag, not Jeb. You are in control of Jeb, so you right click on a thing and there are commands fro him to perform on that thing.

When will PC 1.7 update will be released?
Superfluous J replied to Eaten by Black Hole's topic in KSP1 Discussion
See? No good deed goes unpunished. -
Seems owned by Disney. No just kidding it looks cool and very near the KSP wheelhouse. I'll check it out.

Very cool idea. Not sure if I'll use it, but I really like it One semirandom idea: Each time a Kerbal enters "Overtime" they lose a star (because they're tired). If they have no stars, they can't go on overtime anymore. When overtime is done, they get their stars back, and become tourists for 6*(1+ot duration). hours. So if you've configured overtime to be 1 hour (likely all most people would need, as you would probably only do it when you had to sneak in a quick maneuver at the end of a shift) then they'd be off for 6*2 or 12 hours. If you set OT to 6 hours and press it 3 times, then they get 6*19=114 hours (19 days) off.

I hate to say it but I need to throw in the towel, at least temporarily. I can NOT get a SRB into orbit no matter what, and actually never repeated the above feat of getting just the pod into orbit. I got pretty consistent at landing on the North or South ice sheets, but that's the best I could get. If I have an epiphany (or three) I'll pick this back up.

Success! Well partial success. There's this little issue of not having any fuel left.

Inspired by @vyznev and @bayesian_acolyte I've been working on a TZTO (Tier-Zero-To-Orbit) ship. I'm pretty sure I have the dV, but just need to perfect the ascent trajectory (and ability to control at all). Once I have that I'm hoping to get that all-important strut node along with the two nodes you both unlocked. If not, I'm not 100% sure it'd be wroth trying anything further as my subsequent ships will pretty much redo what you've done.

I landed on Minmus...On accident.
Superfluous J replied to FreshHotEngines's topic in Welcome Aboard
Assuming you have a (living) Kerbal up there, they can actually use their jetpack to get into orbit. This only works on a few small moons but Minmus is one of those. Just* hop in the air, give it forward thrust, and keep thrusting "up" to clear terrain. Whenever you're in a safe moment stop thrusting, switch to map mode, and check your trajectory. Once it starts looking like an orbit you're close, and just need a bit more forward to make it one. Get your Ap up to 10-20 or so, then at that Ap bring your Pe up the same way. Just like you would a ship, only with the RCS controls. Once in orbit of Minmus, you then just* need to send up a ship with an empty seat, rendezvous, hop on board, and bring him home. *plus or minus 3.85 "only"s depending on player experience level. -
When do you think it is fair to revert?
Superfluous J replied to jnbspace's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Literally any moment after clicking "launch" is a fine time to revert. I don't ever even feel a pang of doubt about it. You may as well ask at what point is it not okay to click the IVA button. -
I found out last night at about 5pm that I had to work 8pm-6am. I normally work 3rd shift but I'd been up all day because it was a weekend. So I spent the first 6 hours exhausted. I then slept about 12 and woke up a bit ago. Now I'm getting ready to go back to work for my normal shift. So not much

The fuel highway rough idea (edit: more like hub)
Superfluous J replied to M_Rat13's topic in KSP1 Discussion
As far as difficulty goes, and this is all my opinion, I'd say (each is roughly ordered within their category easiest to hardest): Easy Kerbin/Mun/Minmus Intermediate Duna/Ike Dres Gilly Advanced Eeloo Moho Jool/Pol/Bop/Vall/Laythe/Tylo Expert Eve Some things may be easier for others than they were for me. I bet some would put Laythe before Vall, say. Or split Pol and Bop from the rest of Jool and put them up in Intermediate or earlier in Advanced. I mostly kept Jool as one because a "Jool 5" attempt is a pretty common thing. Also, this is the order for a round-trip. I'd consider the hardest flybys to be Intermediate, and the hardest land-it-and-leave-it missions to be ... hmm probably Intermediate as well. -
I don't know. That screen has been in the game a long time.

I've used it and it's nice to skip the early grind. Yes it only lets you get the science once and you don't get it all to start. You only get what you would be able to get by driving around the ksc and collecting it manually. So, every time you unlock a new science doodad, you get a new influx of points.

I've actually been fretting about this in an unhealthy - albeit lighthearted - way. I am imagining an entire contingent of players who consider doing things efficiently to be "cheating." "Oh of course you were able to get that into orbit. You cheated by doing a gravity turn and having a nominal TWR."
