Superfluous J replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion

The Grand "Imgur albums/links are broken" thread.
Superfluous J replied to Bloojay's topic in Kerbal Network
Yeah just put each image into the thread with its link (ending in .jpg or whatever, the actual image). Depending on the forum and page, hiding them behind spoilers is a good idea, as is hiding each behind its own spoiler so you can open them one at a time. -

The v1.2 Hype Train Thread - Prerelease is Out
Superfluous J replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I just imagined - semi randomly - an asteroid mission with all the NERV engines having "autostrut" on. In my mind, I attached the spindly craft to a class-E asteroid and hit the gas, and it went FORWARD WITHOUT BENDING AT ALL.- 1,592 replies

Also for stock parts, if you use Steam and "verify local data" after pruning parts, Steam may put them back. It also may leave the pruned copies there. At the very least you (@linuxgurugamer not nightingale ) should try to error out gracefully when you get in this situation, possibly notifying the player of the likely cause. I can imagine people reporting "I keep deleting this part and it keeps coming back!" a lot This would also likely happen after any update through Steam or through the new-and-improved-hopefully Launcher.

Anybody who's seen the videos (@Bombaatu for instance?): How do they work exactly? do you right-click the container and "transfer all science here" or do you right click the science part and "Transfer science to..." and then click a destination, like transferring a Kerbal works now in pods? If the first, does it transfer ALL science, or just the science stored in experiments themselves? Will it collect surface samples stored in a pod, or just the most current crew report that's not been transferred anywhere yet?

Feelings on stock moving parts?
Superfluous J replied to Twreed87's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You are correct. You may not remember it (or have been here) but when the Claw was first introduced, it was very buggy for similar reasons to why IR parts are buggy: Unity does not work this way. I believe the Claw works at all because you almost always use it to connect to something that is itself rigid (and frequently single-part). Also, the very limited angle range may help, I don't know for sure though as I'm not a Unity programmer in any but the most liberal of senses. There is a BIG difference between bending a bit under strain (and then snapping back when that strain is gone) and rotating or bending with a hinge. They are actually completely separate things that have nothing to do with each other. There is exactly ONE part in the entire game that - by using its stock move functionality - you can modify the angle between two sections of the same craft. That one part is the Claw which - as I discussed above - is extremely limited to keep bugs away. Every other part in the game with moving parts, moves those parts in such a way as to not alter the basic layout of your ship. I would seriously doubt there is ANYBODY within Squad who looks at the parts in Infernal Robotics and says, "Meh. Not needed." But unlike modders they can't allow craft-destroying bugs into their code. -
i* don't think it'll change anything for anybody who doesn't care or doesn't want it. "Casual" players will rarely get far enough away from Kerbin with a probe for it to matter to them, and those who are capable of that and are still somehow "casual" players will know enough to know how to turn it off. The rest of us can turn it on or off to suit our whims. *If you can capitalize "YOU" I can uncapitalize "I"

That's where the "And hope" comes in. There's no guarantee you'll ever get a response, or you'll ever get the files. I can't suggest anything better though than to scour that thread and find people who worked on it and hope that one of them still has the files and will respond to you. Such is the way of free open projects run by volunteers.

Transfer window visualization
Superfluous J replied to robogoofers's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Ah. I misinterpreted your question. I do not believe there is any way to turn off a specific craft of a specific type, while leaving other craft of the same type visible. I don't even think I or most people would want that kind of thing. How do you get the ship back? Plus, the functionality is there now as you can change a craft's type when you rename it. Except debris, and I just make sure all my "important" debris has a probe core. Manually placed waypoint markers in 1.2 will be deletable. I don't think you can delete contract-related ones and (like above) don't think you should be able to. I don't know of a way to filter them out like you can with ship types, but agree that it'd be nice. Maybe F2 to turn off the HUD? I can't test it now but it may work, at least in map mode. -
The v1.2 Hype Train Thread - Prerelease is Out
Superfluous J replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
As far as I can tell it wouldn't do that. You do still have some control of probes (and full control of manned craft) when not in range. And is it confirmed that there is no upgrade sequence or is that speculation? Real life has kept me from the streams since yesterday afternoon and will until tomorrow morning.- 1,592 replies

What Should We Do About kspmods .net?
Superfluous J replied to njmksr's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Technically they have the right to use my mods as they see fit, so long as their license doesn't forbid others from doing the same. It's the license I chose and I chose it knowing of this possibility. I don't know, but I don't think they ban the only thing I say they can't ban. Their "license" text is ... poorly written so I can't quite parse it. That makes me think it wouldn't stand up to any form of legal scrutiny anyway. I'm all for disparaging them publicly but feel no need to take legal action, even if it was a reasonable possibility which - as you admit - it probably isn't. I really wish they censored them to "WEBSITE_CENSORED" or something so it didn't confuse every single person without exception. -
The v1.2 Hype Train Thread - Prerelease is Out
Superfluous J replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Not at all. Hopefully they'll do it, even. But IMO putting the time into that instead of releasing would just delay the game a few weeks. Would that ruin my life? Of course not, but neither will all the ground stations (that I'll not even visit all of) having the same models.- 1,592 replies

The v1.2 Hype Train Thread - Prerelease is Out
Superfluous J replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Actually, reusing assets and textures when it's appropriate is a great way to add content with less work and without risk of introducing weird bugs. I personally laud it.- 1,592 replies

"Abandoned" means nobody's working on it, not it's broken. It'll just eventually become broken with game updates naturally. I don't know where the source is. I'd find threads started for the project (like this one) and send those people PMs. And hope.

Transfer window visualization
Superfluous J replied to robogoofers's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The button at the top of the screen in map mode or the tracking station, that is not there until you've put your mouse cursor up at the top of the screen in the middle. -
Well technically he didn't ask to define it, he only asked if people knew. So answering the unasked question correctly is just giving the OP data points for the asked question.

Minmus "equatorial" orbit?
Superfluous J replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's hard without pictures and I'm on my phone so pictures aren't really an option. :/ EDIT: FMA has a much better and more accurate way. I've voted it up. -

Minmus "equatorial" orbit?
Superfluous J replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You got it right, you're burning in the wrong place. The galactic plane matches 0 degrees so put it as flat behind Minmus as you can and you should be able to estimate about where to burn. -
I guess that's good. In Los Angeles you need to keep a Positive Mental Attitude! On a more serious note, my company got bought out by a much larger company about a year ago, and everything is an acronym. TLA's everywhere, and not one of them is ever defined. I have taken to - when I come across a likely definition because someone slipped up and didn't use the acronym - slowly built up a list. But there are still now, a year later, things I use on a daily basis that I don't know what the acronym actually stands for. So I feel for you, OP. Though the forum underlining acronyms is a boon. I wish my company did that.
