Two things. 1) I love how you have to wait for science data now, watching it count to completion. Well done. 2) data unit is Kb - if that's supposed to be kilobit, then it has to be kb. K is Kelvin. Not only it's an error, but might present difficulties with the code as Kerbalism grows in the future.

Absolutely not feasible. The whole article is a typical "local man outsmarts experts" and national pandering pamphlet that fails at its premises. This is not an energy source. It's storage, and a very inefficient one. It's so inefficient it's hilarious. No wonder no one is contacting him. Nobody serious would actually devote resources to it. Even the idea to use discarded aluminium is ridiculous because recycling already metallic aluminium is so much more beneficial for the environment as you don't need to use Hall-Héroult process again (and BTW, someone said that carbon rods used in this process is carbon sink - it's not, as they sublimate and form carbon oxides that leave the cell together with hydrogen fluoride in a nasty flue gas).

I said crappy textures (and obviously quality of models) could've been repaired later, but the fact there are such things as blast bunker, trailers, sandbags, freaking BARN, that's a splendid idea.

And you completely missed my point.

Have I re-found the Magic Boulder????????
lajoswinkler replied to Jeb-head-mug kerman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The proper solution was to repair it and preserve its meaning, instead of destroying the uniqueness of a beloved part of the game. -
Have I re-found the Magic Boulder????????
lajoswinkler replied to Jeb-head-mug kerman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The unique Magic boulder was destroyed and it was replaced by randomly spawning glowy boulders of various colors. One more thing that liquided off lots of players. -
The Barn was an extremely good concept, so any complaints about some (truly) lousy textures are meaningless. Textures are easily made and can be replaced. The general feeling of what stuff was there and how it was positioned reminds us of earliest experimental high altitude rocketry. It's the Kerbal feeling. Sadly, very loud squealing of an edgy minority from Reddit ruined this, as usual with many things that had the potential to improve the game lore and immersion. Squad rarely ever cared about the opinion of this forum's users, even though this is the mother lode of KSP creativity online, not Reddit or any other site.

Mars One: Now valued in pocket change
lajoswinkler replied to Spaceception's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I'll never understand people who thought this was anything but a scam. It was so obvious from the start. -
totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?
lajoswinkler replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
Oh man, I can't believe someone else heard this thing. I had it in my head for more than a week in summer of 2017. It's called city pop but it's more like a blend of contemporary jazz, pop and funk from last decades of 20th century Japan. Quite obscure stuff, but might not remain that way. We'll see. It's been catching on for some time now. Instrumentals are amazing backgrounds. Check out this gem. -
Science and physics theories
lajoswinkler replied to <Joseph kerman>'s topic in Science & Spaceflight
There aren't many scientific theories in existence for the reason they're made out of evidence and are therefore strong and scarce. Maybe you mean hypotheses? Plenty of those out there. -
Gas Planet 2? Poll
lajoswinkler replied to KSPACE's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I would, however the work, stockalike appearance and the amazing results of Outer Planets Mod are such that I'd like to see that mod become a stock thing. It really is the expansion of the system this game deserves. I'd also add a periodic comet like Ascension and a sungrazing planetary core like Ablate (most creative, realistical objects from Kragrathea's Planet Factory, the grandfather of custom planetary systems). It has been cracked and hopefully it will become stock. https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/179281-15x-tiltem-planetary-axial-tilt-v100-25-oct-2018/ -
inline parachute magnetometer on a deployable boom Geiger counter RPWS UV/VIS/NIR camera seismometer radar capsule with 1.875 m bottom and 1.25 m top so one could make a proper Soyuz-like vehicle (the present one, with 0.625 m top, was a mistake to include) noncheaty RTG unit that decays over decades stronger nuclear thermal engine smaller launch escape system instead of three cluttering spherical capsules of the DLC, one fully equipped spherical capsule and one crappy small sphere, like Spud from HGR

Make RTG units have halflife
lajoswinkler replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This [snip] reminds me of Deadly Reentry thread years ago. Always the same story. And now we have a stock feature that doesn't let you land on Eve just by throwing crap at it. Boo hoo. -
Make upgradeable space suits!!!
lajoswinkler replied to Rover 6428's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Almost four years ago (!!!) I suggested special reflective suits for EVAs closer to Kerbol, totally underrated source of missions. No response. I agree with upgradeable suits but that would require simple tethers to be developed - also a good idea. Yes, but not personal tethers. Only a goofy cable that invokes the Kraken. It would be very nice if we had a short personal tether. -
More liquid fuel (only) tanks
lajoswinkler replied to Behemot's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Simple RTG decay is not realistic. It's just more realistic than cheating. The principle is realistic. Full realism would model thermoelectric module failure and whatnot. And you're dead wrong about what the game is all about. Founding developers wanted to make something as close to reality they could, without it requiring complex calculations and writing scientific papers on mission planning. That's why we have patched conics instead of "go to orbit" button, and tracking solar panels that don't work in shadows. That's why we have realistic principles of engines. The whole game is built around reasonably realistical principles and it has only increased as years went by. We got a thermodynamic heat model. Realistic? No, not completely, but it's damn close to idealized state. PB-NUK was supposed to decay, I remember it has been discussed years ago, but it was forgotten because it's a minor part made early in development. Let's toss it all for those few that can't do it. Wah wah. Dogmatic, right. That's why Nertea's mods have almost half a million downloads on just one mod sharing site. Come on. -
More liquid fuel (only) tanks
lajoswinkler replied to Behemot's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
LV-N is not something designed for spaceplanes in the first place. However, LF could be used as a different mode of operation of LV-N, at a great expense of Isp. -
Make RTG units have halflife
lajoswinkler replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
And with a very old RTG you need to wait a long time... up to the point it becomes unuseable because it can't even support communication with Kerbin and still charge the battery. Then you declare it dead, after like 50 years or so. That's the whole point. It gives a fresh motivator. Why do we have solar panels that work progressively weaker with increasing distance from Kerbol? Should we make that a difficulty option so that people who suck at this only need one OX-STAT and they're fine whether they're at Moho, Jool or Neidon? The argument goes both ways. -
Make RTG units have halflife
lajoswinkler replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Good luck driving a rover with an old RTG unit.... or keeping a signal when far away... or using torque for orientation. Limited battery cycle can not possibly be compared to a cheaty RTG that behaves like a perpetuum mobile. I hope you're kidding there because the comparison just doesn't stand. -
Make RTG units have halflife
lajoswinkler replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'm pretty sure that's a fallacy. Where does this end? Why do we even need anything remotely difficult in the game? Heat? too difficult. Aerodynamics? Too difficult. Planes breaking when hitting stuff at high speed? Too difficult. Why even bother? BTW, I am all for a simple life support system in the game. Those are among the most popular mods out there so that speaks for itself. -
Make RTG units have halflife
lajoswinkler replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yup, we should make every tiny thing a difficulty option. Wheel brakes? Difficulty option. Gear retractability? Difficulty option. If humans behaved like this, we'd never climb down from trees. -
More liquid fuel (only) tanks
lajoswinkler replied to Behemot's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yes, you can reduce the oxidizer to zero and that gives you half empty tank. But then again, LV-N should not even use LiquidFuel. It should have its special fuel. One of those things that are not difficult, would make the game richer, but things that are being neglected. -
Make RTG units have halflife
lajoswinkler replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Because it's such a small change that makes things work nicer and every time such idea is presented, there's always someone who will say: 1) there's a mod for it 2) make it a difficulty option Every time. If the developers had listened to this, KSP would never become what it is today. I've been playing this since 2013 and every time someone would suggest a thing that made the game richer as it is today, there would be people stomping it down, trying to keep the game look like it was back when there were no planets and maneuver nodes. I honestly don't understand why. RTG is something that should be used for probes where sunlight is not present or scarce. Nowdays they're used for cheating to take one's mind off energy requirements and making sure the vessel will remain responsive forever. And yes, nobody uses it for ISRU and that's not the point. -
Engines you wish were added.
lajoswinkler replied to Xurkitree's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
2.5 m nuclear engine. AFAIK the first one ever made was for KSPX and it's called LV-NB. It's a bit stubby looking and I'd appreciate a longer model with larger nozzle.
