It happens. I just take a break for a short bit (hours to a day or two) and then try again later. Also... due to certain range issues with my fancy 'ol XD-X VTOL fighter, I've made a 2-seater companion that might be much better... It's called the (creatively enough) XD-Y Spectre. Any guess which IRL aircraft it's based (loosely) off of? EDIT: I got the Spectre working as a fighter-bomber.

That video used Persistent Trails mod, I'm not sure beyond that, though. He basically was chasing clones of his previous flights. -
I sort of like having an extra goal to fighting other than just stomping out your opponent's poor 'ol Kerbal troops/pilots. Plus, it looks good in the pics.

//!/BATTLE ALERT/!// Mechani Union Vs. daeCorp Battle of Laythe (Surface) /RULES:/ Standard, plus: 1. Maximum of four ground units, of which only two may be amphibious. 2. Maximum of 2 Air units. 3. Ground/Air units MAY NOT carry guided munitions. 4. 1 Naval unit max, but it may carry cruise missiles/SLBMs/guided rounds. 5. Winner gets to "capture" (drive up to and mess with/destroy) this neutral objective: However, the tiny island the "prize" is on may not be landed on during combat. The MU has sent down Fireteam "Bandit" (2 AAV-1 Strikers, 2 MBT-2 tanks), a brand-new MU XD-X VTOL air superiority fighter, and an MU MT-16B VTOL Gunship. Satellite Pic: (My way of having a group shot of 'em.) The MU also has a prototype mobile launch vessel, the Timberwolf, anchored off the coast, it's 4 guided SLBMs primed and ready. daeCorp forces will spawn at/around this location, essentially opposite of the MU forces. Handy Map (although a little blurry) Persist: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7w3xvl1ku2bsfrk/persistent3.sfs

MU AAV-1 Striker. This combat-ready armored trike serves as not only a very fast, manuverable ground attack vehicle, but also can take to the seas and act as an amphibious fire support unit. (AKA a hull-smasher.) This is also why I'm putting up my battle post tomorrow, as this enables me to be a tad bit... creative... in my tactics.

Things inspired by this: I'll have a battle post against daemon up today, I just gotta decide which would be better: Duna or Laythe.

Today I did a night landing on Duna with this: Gallery:

The MU DP-1 "Aldrin" Orbital Drop Outpost!
ScriptKitt3h replied to ScriptKitt3h's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I used a modified launcher (that's still a tad bit glitchy due to the updates) from back in 0.23.5, and the base weighs around 80-90 tons (depending on fuel levels). I'm looking into spawning it with a pre-loaded rover, but for the time being it'll fit a separately-launched one just fine. For a rover that'll fit, I have this: -
Cira IV Official Release! 300 tonnes to Orbit!
ScriptKitt3h replied to zekes's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
You think that could carry this? Wonderful rocket, Zekes. You've outdone yourself again. -
Many sci-fi stories feature the capability to "Drop" ships, ground vehicles, and buildings from orbit, enabling rapid building of colonies, armies, and even whole cities. However, that might seem impossible for KSP. Until now. Meet the DP-1 Aldrin Orbitally Dropped Outpost, courtesy of the Mechani Union's colonization department. This state-of-the-art base/outpost is designed to be "dropped from orbit" (deployed on a sub-orbital trajectory) and land safely under its own power. This is accomplished via a robust parachute system, plus 4 LV-T30 retrorockets. Kerbin Landing: Duna (NIGHT) Landing: This base comes in at just under 230,000 funds in career mode, and carry up to 24 kerbals. It's constructed out of 386 parts, and is just under 100 tons. It's garage can hold most medium-to-small size rovers, and it can be expanded via klaw-equipped add-on modules (in development). //ACTION GROUPS:// 1- LV-T30s 2- Drogue Chutes 3- Regular Chutes G- Open/Close Garage Doors ///FLIGHT PROFILE:/// 1-Launch using heavy-lift rocket(s). 2-Haul out to your destination. 3-Use a tug (or transfer stage) to "drop" from orbit. 4- Ditch the tug and land using the parachutes and retrorockets. The Capital ship and the Dockyard
ScriptKitt3h replied to SlimJim89's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I'd love to see the .craft just for the drydock. It looks awesome. Great work! -
I'll battle ya. I just have to fix my tanks, the darn missiles got bugged in the update.
-
It has a basic jet on the underside of the fuselage for VTOL thrust. The ions are for aesthetics and minor stability enhancements.
-
Thanks! I'd hoped to bulk it up a bit, but it turns out that making it light and sturdy worked out better.

Cupcake's Dropship Dealership...
ScriptKitt3h replied to Cupcake...'s topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Cupcake... you ever considered challenging yourself to make a giant VTOL/Lander/Dropship? It's certainly workable. -
So, the classic argument over whether or not light rockets are worth it compared to i-beams... In the words of the "Old El Paso" kid, "Why not both?" This VTOL managed to hit a training target (wrapped in dual-layer armor) from the runway, when the target was parked up against the VAB.
-
I'm about to update this with a new Kerbal-carrier variant, but testing is going.... ...somewhat badly. -To the SPH!
-
I made this heavy lifter back before 0.24 came out... ..it's appropriately named the Whackjob-Class, due to the immense size, TWR, and Kraken-baiting. (The payload in the pics is a size 3 transfer stage hauling a station habitat.) It also SSTOed with a 100 ton payload...
-
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that. The solar arrays do come in handy in-vacuum, though. Also, I admit I got a bit of inspiration from your QC7 VTOL. That thing's awesome.

Cupcake's Dropship Dealership...
ScriptKitt3h replied to Cupcake...'s topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Hey Cupcake.... I finally made something small enough to dogfight your combat VTOLs. -
Good luck. Also, remember: the bigger the aircraft (despite how awesome it might be), the bigger the target....
-
Yup, that too is a gunship. However, it all depends on the context. I tend to think of VTOLs and helicopters when I hear the word "gunship", mainly due to IRL aircraft like the MI-24 Hind, Bell UH-1, and the AH-1Z Viper.
