Updated the mod list, will try to get a new video out tomorrow or so.

Saturn V was the only manned vehicle. Delta II is for probes (but might be used with Boeing CST-100, for LEO operations **edit: nevermind, that's the Delta IV, I wasn't paying attention to what I was typing**), SpaceX Falcon Heavy is for payloads and not really the Dragon IIRC. Not sure about Molniya M. But, in 2022 (I think), the Space Launch System will launch astronauts to the Moon to visit an asteroid brought into lunar orbit

F-1 engines are still relevant today, as well as J-2 engines. F-1B engines are upgraded F-1s and J-2X are "derived" from the J-2. Saturn V accomplished the most and was designed by the one and only Wernher von Braun, possibly the greatest rocket genius of all time. Korolev was pretty good, too. Would have been great if they worked together.

Going to Eeloo and back should definitely reward more science points.

[WIP] [0.23.5] AKSP - Suborbital Space Transport
Woopert replied to stoland's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Looks really nice! Great work! -
Whoops, my mistake. I know almost everything about the US space program, but my knowledge about the Russian space program is quite meager.
-
No it doesn't. Buran uses an RD-170 on the Energia rocket that, along with the boosters, are the only engines that fire on launch. The OMS equivalent for the Buran are on the orbiter, but are (or were) only used in space.

I actually like the way the struts are currently set up on the Munshine's. They look cool, I incorporate the "crossing" technique on my designs sometimes, it makes it look sort of realistic, in a way. Like how the Russians use for connecting stages to each other. Oh, and are there any areas I could help out with Munshine? Like designing a rocket to fill in any gaps? I know there's one being worked on between Munshine IV and Munshine V, but anything else would be cool. And, one last question: will the higher end Munshine's be phased out into the new size parts, so they look less like, a bunch of fuel tanks strapped together? They already look nice but a nice SLS/Saturn style rocket would look really slick!
-
I also hope it only incorporates the nozzle into the design. I don't know all the details of the design (other than basic specs for it) but I'd like to see it be low profile.

Agreed with everything Wayfare said! It is awesome you're doing this, I mentioned KSP to my engineering teacher and tried explaining the physics is uses and how it can be a learning tool -- but unfortunately, we don't have beefy enough computers or the licenses for distributing copies of the game. Also, the more the merrier! I'm glad to see people trying to teach others about the marvels of space flight (and space in general). There's a lot of unique things to learn and if you get sucked into it, you will become passionate! That's why rocketry and space exploration is so special -- it changes your life! It will be a good way to grab people out of this (mostly) disgusting world we live in, where all people care about are things that are quite insignificant when you think about it (i.e. things not appropriate to discuss here). So, good luck!

So, just to start off, I truly owe Squad a lot, because this game has seriously changed my life. We all owe Squad a big thanks for this game and the continuous updates and hard work they put into it This thread is just to point out a couple things that bug me with the ARM pack. I am in no way trying to talk trash about Squad, these are just a few minor "issues" if you will, that are bugging me. It is a NASA endorsed pack so it would be nice to see some of these addressed To begin... KS-25 engine orientation: These are canted outwards in a similar fashion to the old SLS design that including five RS-25 engines. They have revised it to four RS-25 engines that are arranged in a square. It's been that way for a while now *Credit for picture goes to KSP TV, screenshot from the NASA pack reveal! Nice to have those embedded in spoilers, eh? So that's one thing. Moving on, standalone KS-25 engines are something that many of us would like to see, including myself, GusTurbo, and Giggleplex777 -- the latter two are very well respected craft creators that would benefit with them (but they surely wouldn't be the only ones that would benefit!) Giggleplex has made a separate thread regarding the standalone engines, so I'll redirect you there! He has also posted some inspirational pictures for what could be done with these potential engines. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/73906-Standalone-KR-25-%28Space-Shuttle%29-engines

I think I'm going to make a separate thread.

Maybe a higher mass would be good then. But, thanks for the thread! Mind mentioning the alignment issues, or is that not a big deal for you?

[WIP] Space Launch System (SLS) and ORION (MPCV)
Woopert replied to Stevincent's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I'm not sure about them being finalized but the current design lists both the Blocks I and II as having 4 RS-25 on the core. The Block I will have an RL10B-2 engine on the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (aka Delta Cryogenic Second Stage), while Block II currently lists two J-2X engines on the upper stage. Block I will use 5 segment solid rocket boosters derived from the Space Shuttle SRBs, while with Block II it is undecided as of now. However, in 2015 NASA will announce who will win the rights to produce the boosters for Block II, whether it be the dual F-1B Pyrios boosters from Dynetics and (now) Aerojet Rocketdyne, or advanced SRBs from ATK. I am going off of most of these specs from NASA's website; I have noticed while doing research that Wikipedia, while very good for many rocketry fact checks, is unreliable for the SLS. They list 3 J-2X, and list old pictures from when the SLS was planned to use 4 RS-25. Anywho, just wanted to ramble on about the basics about the SLS that I know of, hoping for it to be of use to Stevincent. -
Thanks everyone! I've been subscribed to you Guz for a couple weeks now. And obviously, just subbed to _jack today.

StarShine Industries also has a very nice stocklike parts pack. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/40220-0-23-StarShine-Industries-Athena-Pack-Revamped!
-
Subscribed, looking forwards to these! Oh, and shameless self advertising... mind subscribing to mine? link in sig

Sounds fine and dandy, you want to write it? I'm not the best thread creator. Also mention that we want the new engines as standalones for the Space Shuttles! Oh, and congrats on that fourth rep bar! A thread about the arrangement of the engines and a suggestion for standalones. But yes, spoilers are back and it's awesome!

[WIP] Space Launch System (SLS) and ORION (MPCV)
Woopert replied to Stevincent's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Yes, this indeed great to hear! And best of luck as well! But, the current design is still the classic black-and-white painted design. NASA's website shows the latest concepts and when they were last updated, this picture in the spoiler (yes, they're back!) shows the paint job. It's from February 24, 2014! -
I don't know what I'll do first when this comes out... the asteroids or the new parts! Oh, and Rowsdower, would you be able to answer a question about the new engine cluster? Why was it made to look like the old SLS orientation, with them in a rectangle shape? The current SLS design places them in a square so it would be appropriate to represent it like that in KSP. Nothing game breaking of course, I'd just really like to see it addressed. If there's not enough time to "fix" it for 0.23.5 then 0.24 seems do-able, right? I know it's not meant to be a complete replica but it still bugs me. If it *does* happen to be released tomorrow I will be forever grateful... who doesn't like Fridays (read: KSP marathon days)?

I was 4 when it happened (would be 5 in May that year), but I still don't remember it. It is really sad, it's usually sad news when people die (unless they're terrorists or something... different story). It's also shocking to believe this happened in 2003, just 11 years ago. We thing of ourselves as so advanced but anything can go wrong, especially with rocket science. I've been taking KSP seriously since 0.21, after returning from my 3 month hiatus. I just like imagining what the Kerbals are experiencing. Zero deaths since then, although there has been quite a bit of quicksaving/reverting and backing up saves.

Heard about the new Kuiper Belt object yesterday, as well as the ringed asteroid(s). In fact, I tweeted to Mike Brown (he put a tweet to announce the discovery) congratulating him, and he said "wasn't me this time!" obviously because he wasn't the discover-er. That made me feel special, being responded to by such a great scientist!

Yes, standalone KS-25's would be amazing! Having an engine with a nice gimbal range would be cool as well, if it were stock. I know all gimbals are nerfed down in KSP so something like 4 degrees might be good (rather than 10.5 degrees). I really do hope they add the new arrangement though, the pack is supposed to be NASA approved, why did they let that inaccuracy pass? If it stays it will really irk me.
