  1. That was freaking awesome! Congrats to all the hard workers at SpaceX for pulling this off. The best part? By the time it flew, I was able to be home from work, showered, PC plugged into the TV, and had my boys here to watch it with me. Although they missed it blowing up just now. Like holey crap! Anyways, who cares? Huzzah, SpaceX, huh to the freakin zah!
  2. Didn’t they go through almost the same thing with the first launch of F9? Scrubbed because something was outside the conservative parameters; adjusted parameters and launched an hour or so later? Blowing a shuttle tech’s mind in the process because a hot abort was at least a 24hr recycle for that bird.
  3. Apparently you need a Reaction Control System. Are we there yet?
  4. Earth is just a breadcrumb that found itself in conditions too warm and too wet for too long, so life started growing all over it like a mould
  5. Maybe you need to be on a Colorado mountaintop.... https://www.teslarati.com/starlink-10k-ft-elevation-test-video/
  6. Elon started playing the real life versions of Rocket Tycoon and CarFactorio at pretty much the same time. Now he's starting his own game of Elon Musk's Civilization, with the starting city of Starbase.
  7. My career has (literally!) hit a fork ,and I can't decide which path to take.... Background: My whimsically-named Mars Base had just arrived in a low Duna polar orbit. The fully-laden Duna MinerRefiner soon passed under its orbital plane, just as the base was passing overhead, and launched into an intercept trajectory. With a little tweaking during the coast phase, a 0.0km intercept was created, closing at several hundred m/s. But due to confusion and indecision while setting up the rendezvous burn, um, well.... I was in map mode and suddenly the navball went crazy.... That expanding debris cloud in the background? Yup, that's what's left of both ships. the DMR core at center has shed about 90% of it's mass/parts, as well as two crew, But everyone survived! I now have five kerbals in two separate cabins on suborbital trajectories; I've proven that one can parachute back down and survive. The three base crew are in a decaying orbit (or would be if KSP modelled decay). But as per SOP, the crew quicksaved before lifting, and in a panic they saved again while screaming for rescue.... So now I have a choice: write off a contract or two and try to rescue these wretches, with the unique challenges that will pose (like trying to keep five freefalling kerbals somewhat together, or rendezvousing with wreckage in a decaying orbit). Or load the quicksave (pretending Disby had a bad dream) and go out my mundane, routine career (launch, plot, burn, land, rinse, repeat) where disasters only happen in nightmares... I think I may have to accept failure as an option this time and go rescue those poor wretches. I may have some vacant seats on some craft in the area, but not in polar orbit... (we need a facepalm emoji, but this'll do) E: Funny how they can be all smiles when they're 120km above Duna on a suborbital trajectory with no engines.
  8. Hoo boy. Has somebody been into the Ambien again?
  9. Nope. They may want to reconsider trading a bit more complexity (plumbing another pair into the ignition fluid system) for landing redundancy, or not using life-leader parts on the critical landing engines. Or accept writing off more boosters due to preventable occurrences. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, as usual
  10. Yeah, I still think that falls into the “we were dumb” category of “don’t test life-leader components on the non-redundant landing engines “
  11. Oh man.... Dirty Muppet Harry! ”Go ahead, make my day!..... But first, could you make me look more threatening? Please huh huh please?”
  12. I don’t think I saw this posted here; finally a cause for the last failed landing:
  13. For protein, I believe @cubinatorwould have something to say about crickets...? Sorta ninja’d as I was typing on my phone...
  14. https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/terminator-anime-series-netflix-1234916466/ I heard about this and I'm sorry, I know there are anime fans here, but I was raised on Hanna Barbera and Looney Tunes, and my first reaction was just that Terminator anime was wrong. Just wrong. Like, no, Just no, no, no, noooooooooooo. I mean, I suppose I could even see how it might be a good fit, but....
  15. I just can’t resist... @Just Jim
  16. That sounds like fun. A big ol’ heap o’ fun. I’d request some junk to tear into, like old cars, RVs, shipping containers, old structures.... Also gives me a reason to go to Vegas, since I’m not big on gambling and there’s only so many shows that would interest me...
  17. Well, for the Chinese there’s an (a) and a (b), and I think it’s only one lander, so I guess those are the main and backup sites, in case of dust storms or Marvin
  18. Made friends with a raven? That would be interesting to see
  19. Okay, these pics may not be of the same stunning quality of other pics in this thread, but what the hey. I had my dog out for what I call "night ops;" fetch at night with a phosphorescent ball and a light on her collar. Then I decided to try out the camera on my iPhone 12... All set for night ops, with a shredded gaga-ball she found and school lights in the background: Then I remembered hearing something about night mode... Not bad actually, considering the nearest light besides her s is at least 100m away Those were the best, more in the spoiler...
