Height, malnutrition and post-communistic countries
StrandedonEarth replied to Wjolcz's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I currently live in an 80 unit townhouse complex, and some neighbors complain that the kids are playing too loud. Granted, the kids don't need to be screaming all day long, and/but the playground here was meant for preschoolers instead of the rapidly-growing 6-16yo population here, and/but the old guard here isn't interested in investing in play areas, and/but the only way out (even on foot) of the complex is out to the major traffic artery in this area, etc.... And yeah, the kids are getting bigger for their age. Except mine, who has my tiny genetics... -

totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
StrandedonEarth replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Too bad they couldn't convince these guys to fly on used rockets. Then expending rockets wouldn't make Elon wince so much. These heavy comsats were probably slated to fly on Falcon Heavies, recovering all three cores (and eventually the second stage). But with all the F9H delays, the customers would want their birds in the sky generating revenue, so they were moved to F9E's. That's my guess, anyways. -

Whoops, I scrolled too fast, I should have seen that

What Type of KSP Player Are You?
StrandedonEarth replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Pilot/Engineer. I mostly slap stuff together and fly it, fixing and tweaking as necessary. i don't care about aesthetics, but I tend to build crazy complex, multifunction craft. such as Jool Probe 6-packs and rover/airplane hybrids. I don't generally care for in-orbit assemblies; I'll add boosters and struts until the thing makes orbit. -
Sorry, I didn't read through it all. Do you have a Beatles reference in there?

That's Faaaantastic! Meanwhile, Elon is all, like, ... -
It's not a parody, but I made this a few years ago... As for Kerbalized lyrics for ThunderStruck, hmm, lemme think.. I was launched On a rocket to the Mun When I staged Then it all went kaboom My mind raced And I thought what could I do And I knew There was no help, no help from Jool Sound of the 'chutes Rippling in the wind The thunder of Thuds Landed me again You've been (you've been) Thunderstruck!

Ask the Mods questions about the Forums!
StrandedonEarth replied to Dman979's topic in Kerbal Network
Where do we put requests for mouseover definitions? We need one for "NDA" ASAP (do we need a definition for that too?)! RoverDude keeps getting asked questions that he has to respond with "NDA," and then has to define it two posts later, repeatedly. Apologies if this has been dealt with; I'm on mobile and can't see the dotted underlines. -

Having 4 pairs of them, plus backup 'chutes. -
How did I not see this thread 3.5 years ago, or its revival 2 years ago. This thread may create a monster out of me... Hmm, we can play "Name the Original Tune" with this. Some would obviously be easier than others. I guess that would get it moved to games. Ah well... We don't need no autostrutting We don't need no RCS No Mammoth Boosters on the Launch Pad Kraken Leave those Ships alone! Hey! Kraken! Leave our Ships alone! All in all it's just another hole in the ground All in all you're just another hole in the ground! *Jeb's awesome guitar solo* [in the background] If you don't add more boosters, you won't get off the launch pad! How can you get off the launch pad if you don't add more boosters?!? You! You get in that spam can! And you'll like it! Hmm, there's some others I would like to kerbalize, but the words won't come right now... Master of Rockets (Metallika) For those about to Launch (We salute you) (AK/DK) I did make this for that last one...

Launch Escape Systems on unmanned rockets
StrandedonEarth replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It'll be white-knuckle-fingernails-chewed-to-the-quick until First Light. So they should put it on the first launch of the F9H... NOT!! -
That, since I did reply with a low-res game

But that doesn't show anything. What's it for?

Start reading Larry Niven's Known Universe library of books, like Ringworld, World of Ptaav's, Protector, the Neutron Star anthology, and on and on. Lots of Fi-Sci in his works.

I've landed everywhere on that list, although I may not have landed crew everywhere since 1.0. I've never been to the bottom of any ocean...

What do you think about this planetary mining?
StrandedonEarth replied to ARS's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It would be much simpler to just use the Death Star to break up the planet, then the heavy metals in the core would be easily accessible for mining. That was the cover story given to the engineers who designed and built the thing, to break up dead planets so the cores could be mined. Of course, the Emperor had other plans for it, and they were brainwashed not to think about why it had that particular name. At least according to the Jedi Academy trilogy Which just begs the question: How much energy did the Death Star have to pour into a planet to fragment it? I guess that comes back to that "binding energy" equation. -
Say Hello to The Rep Grand Group! [07/19/16 UPDATE!]
StrandedonEarth replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
Woohoo! I've reached that magical mark of being at (hopefully soon to be over) a 1:1 rep/post ratio, while being firmly into the Rep Grand Group (at this rate it shouldn't be too long until the Rep 2K Group)!- 929 replies

Unfortunately this would fall under Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware). A little time checking out consumer (not website/magazine reviews, this forum may have been the best bet) would have revealed the issues to you, to make an informed choice. I waited to hear how it was working for others, before deciding not to let my boys buy it (yet). As for the Sony and Microsoft stores not flagging it or pulling it, that's a different story, and I have no idea why they continue to let it sell as normal. Which should be grounds for refunds, IMO.
