  1. Stock Weapons Challenge! Contrary to public misconception, stock weapons ARE a thing, and I want to see your creations! The Challenge: Build & Deploy a custom weapon using only stock KSP parts. WATCH THE STOCK WEAPONS CHALLENGE VIDEO TRAILER BELOW INSTRUCTIONS Build a STOCK weapon and deploy it against a specific target. You may only use parts from Stock KSP, no BD armory of course, other mods are ok as long as they don't provide any unfair advantages. You must use KSP Version 1.0 or later. To complete this challenge you must meet the following requirements: 1) Picture, GIF, or Video of your weapon. 2) Picture, GIF, or Video of the aftermath of your deployed weapon. 3) You MUST call your target (ex: VAB building, or a specific craft, or "ENTIRE RUNWAY") 4) You MUST prove your weapon works (accuracy be damned!) Impress me!
  2. Hey guys, I've been playing for a couple months now (stock 1.3, no mods), and lately I have decided to tackle the hard mode (or at least the beginning thereof)... Obviously, the biggest issue with this mode (default difficulty settings) lays in the "200% fundings" modifier that makes buildings evolution extremely costly, when you get just 60% of the rewards from your contracts. I got quite inspired by Virgin Galactic and spaceX plans to fly lay people to space for a few (million) bucks, and decided to try and milk the VIP/Tourists suborbital contract till I get enough to upgrade a few buildings (Mission control, VAB, tracking station and launchpad). Interestingly enough it turned quite well and our witty engineers came up with a design that allows me to get 40,000 every 2 minutes (from launchpad to recovery), with minimal intervention (only the first 30 seconds of the 2 minutes, almost a fire & forget! ). Introducing... the Vomit Comet (ta-daaaablurglupblooaaarg!) Basically, all you need is: - To enable physics warp *4 if not already done (allows you to complete the mission in under 2 minutes by warping to *4 just after launching) - Do the 2 first contracts and get enough science and money for the parts and to upgrade the mission control - Take but DO NOT DO THE ORBIT MISSION - Then just build the rocket and get all dem juicy suborbital contracts!!! (just warp to next day if you don't have any left; they will respawn as long as the first orbit hasn't been achieved) Now ,for the fun part: - Get your most stupid pilot in the ship (only takes him activating 2 stages) - Slam 4 tourists in the caske - the first class - Go to the launchpad, max throttle, sas on.... - Launch and immediately warp to *4 DO NOT TOUCH THE CONTROLS - After less than 30 seconds, your SRB should run out of fuel; activate the 2nd stage (sometimes results in a magnificent SRB explosion) - Go do some stuff for 1:30 min, or get all sweaty seeing the Vomit Rocket getting on a lithobraking trajectory - Recover - ??? - Profit! (40k funds and quite some rep) - repeat Once you get used to it, you should be able to milk 10k a minute, including the time spent to check contracts and warp to the next day... The trick of this design is to return the whole second stage, the first stage being only a SRB and a decoupler ... Allows for a 4.5k refund on the < 6k spent on the rocket; more than 75% refund! (can't get closer to an SSTO). But wait there's more to it! The swivel engine balances the rocket and acts as a heatshield during aerobraking, allowing for a nearly automated functionning (launch and press space for stage 2). Almost SSTO, almost automated, high fundings return for a smooth ealy hard game... Enjoy guys! (and feel free to comment and post better designs) -- Zorz

  4. Just a short, simple mission. In honor of the 49th anniversary of Apollo 8's, I decided to recreate it with the stock Saturn V that I've been working on for the past two months. SA-503 stands tall on the pad, with Bill, Jeb, and Bob nestled safely in the CSM. Liftoff! The S-IC thunders skywards, burning literal tons of propellant every second. The five KS-25 "Vector" engines on the S-II take over. Mere minutes later, the S-II exhausts its propellant, and the S-IVB handles the task of circularization. The single Vector on the S-IVB burns to near-depletion to send Apollo 8 on a course to the Moon. The SLA is blown clear of the S-IVB, freeing Apollo 8 from the stage. Looking back on the S-IVB after it performs a short burn to put it on a Munar impact trajectory. The additional tankage visible at the top of the stage is a mass simulator for the LEM (which IRL wouldn't be flight ready for another two months). Apollo 8 enters Munar orbit after a six-hour coast. Surveying the surface of the Mun. Kerbin rising above the desolate surface of the Mun catches the three Kerbonauts by surprise - a blue jewel against an endless sea of space. Jeb rushes to get the camera. "Oh, my God! Look at that picture over there! Here's Kerbin coming up. Wow, is that pretty!" - paraphrased from Bill Anders. The best shot of the bunch, cropped and rotated to match Earthrise as best as possible. Hope you enjoyed this little read. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of you out there!

  7. well, I already posted on WIP design thred. but i'll post it here too. I made newtype full stock gun that won't use engines or decouplers. I never seen this type of gun so, I think it's new technologies If you have enough PC specs, you can go faster than lightspead!!

  9. X-Plane of the Day The collaboration series is back, and this time, it's a nearly 12-week issue of virtually every American X-plane from the Wright 1903 Flyer to the X-37 reusable orbiter, with extras! If you are unfamiliar with ___-of-the-Day type series, @Servo's Jet-of-the-Day is the origin of this format Specifically, this thread showcases the KSP replicas of contributors who signed up here: Temporary: There are still a few open slots---If you want to take on an Aircraft/Spacecraft, keep your thread traffic in the OPEN SIGN-UP thread. ABOUT THE ARTICLES: if you would like to write an article for your craft, you can. If you go this route, (1)Send it to me (PM's), or (2) tell me (in whatever way is most convenient) that you would like to make the post; I don't wanna steal 'likes,' per se. Articles should follow a loose formula: include basic info and a data table of the actual craft, everything else is creator's discretion. Current Contributors: @dundun92 @KenjiKrafts, @MiffedStarfish, @Munbro Kerman, @NotAnAimbot, @NorthAmericanAviation, @qzgy, @Servo, @swjr-swis, @TheEpicSquared, @Triop, @Yukon0009 To start things off, we begin with the first flying heavier-than-air machine From @swjr-swis November 1903: Wright Model 1903 Flyer Using knowledge of Otto Lilienthal's studies in lift and Samuel Pierpont Langley's studies in thrust production, brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright began experiments with a biplane kite in 1901 on the dunes of Kill Devil Hills and Kittyhawk, North Carolina to devise a method of controlling an aircraft, soon to be known as wing-warping. All three major points of flight---control, lift, and thrust---would come together on December 17th, 1903 to produce a 120 foot long (36m), 12 second duration flight of a heavier-than-air machine, the first the world would ever see. It would spawn unbelievably rapid development---almost 50 years later, mach 2 would be surpassed. The only conventionally controlled surfaces were those affecting yaw and pitch; roll authority was given by putting torsional stress on the wings, also known as "wing warping" swjr-swis' craft description: " EVA the pilots and walk onto the top wing above the command seats, they’ll be in range to board them. Stage to eject the separators that hold the prop rotors. Focus on each of the props and add full roll trim. Enable flaps (gear AG), set SAS stability, and stage to release clamp. She will lift off around 40m/s without inputs. (Optional: wait to clear the runway and stage to release the wheelbase). Flight is easy and stable (even without SAS, ~5% pitch down trim at cruising speed) but be aware that like the original, pitching too hard can cause her to flip over very easily. Happy first flight(s)." " The Kerman sisters, owners of a machinery factory near the KSC, inspired by some old faded blueprints of an ancient flight mobile found in a cave nearby the KSC, decided to test its airworthiness." 10. The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle A fighter jet for the history books The F-15 Eagle began as a design concept in the early 1960s for an extremely agile next-generation fighter. It would be extremely maneuverable, have advanced avionics, as well as a dangerous combination of range, speed, and weaponry. Export Models F-15s serve in the air forces of the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Japan, and now, Kerbin's. It features high-powered engines, avionics packages, range-extending drop tanks, and a suite of missiles. The common export variety features the same loadout as F-15 Eagles in Operation Desert Storm. It is packed with two drop tanks, six AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles and two AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, as well as two LANTIRN pods, one for navigation and one for targeting. Make your trade deals now! https://kerbalx.com/servo/Boeing-F-15-Eagle
  11. McDonnell-Douglas AV-8B Harrier II The AV-8B Harrier II was a continuation by McDonnell Douglas (later Boeing) of the less successful Hawker Siddley Harrier. The original Harrier was a technological marvel but a military failure. It had less range and less payload than the A-4 Skyhawk that it was designed to replace. The McDonnell redesign replaced the engine with an improved Pegasus engine, redone cockpit avionics, and added night attack capabilities. The AV-8B retained the advantages of the original Harrier, most importantly its S/VTOL capability. This distinctive feature is afforded by the four swiveling lift jets which redirect the exhaust from the Pegasus engine. This flexibility makes the Harrier an extremely useful aircraft, especially for the Marine Corps. In the Gulf War, they proved invaluable, with their ability to support ground troops in roles where conventional aircraft couldn't. Additionally, Harriers often operate on smaller aircraft carriers alongside attack helicopters. This allows them to operate much closer to land than conventional fixed wing airplanes, which need to take off from large carriers far offshore. This is a rebuild of my previous AV-8B (https://kerbalx.com/servo/AV-8B-Harrier), and features a rebuild of the swiveling jets, as well as a much more accurate exterior. As usual, the jets use airbrakes to move the engines (3x Juno each) 90 degrees, where they dock to allow throttle control while hovering. The hinge is a pair of RCS balls inside a cage of solar panels, allowing smooth transitions between vertical and horizontal flight. This Harrier is quite fun to fly. I increased the number of engines to 12, nearly doubling the top speed, and allowing the Harrier to hover at 60% power. Use action groups 1 and 2 to toggle between lift modes. For vertical takeoff, throttle to full and wait until you have ~100m altitude and 40m/s horizontal velocity. Then switch to horizontal flight. Wait for the engines to redock, and throttle back to 100%. This Harrier is a little different than most other VTOLs to learn, but with a little practice, it's an extremely fun plane to fly. 12. so I started to poke around in the cfg files just for giggles and ive notice something. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\GameData\Squad\Parts\FuelTank\adapterTanks im running 1.3.1, stock install. if you open up the mk3-size2 for example. note the mass. (1.79) now open up mk3-shuttleadapter. and again note the mass. (0.7) start ksp and compare notes. in game -->shuttleadapter mass: 0.7 in game --> mk3-size2 mass: 14.29 this cant be the only discrepancy like this too. anyone got any ideas? a quick install of KER confirms mass is 14.29kg for the size2 adapter

  15. Does anyone have a working version of KSC-Switcher that works on stock Kerbin with 1.3.1? I found a version that works for 1.2.2, and whilst it works in 1.3.1, there are no new KSC launch locations. I found another site that has a screenshot of them working on Kerbin, but the download link is broken. I also know Kerbin-side exist but I like how KSC-Switcher works, and the fact that it doesn't have any extra buildings, considerably more over Kerbin-side.
  16. Sorry for the gonzo marketing. Our newest off-road vehicle. This car can drive anywhere. Our test drivers have taken it up mountains, climbing 53 degree inclines. It's fast too, with a top speed of 324km/h (201MPH, 90m/s). Fueled up it has a weight just under 10k kg. It's powered by four J-20 turbojets. Electrical power is provided by two fuel cell arrays. Someone stole your favorite parking spot? No problem. Driving characteristics: adjusted for rough terrain. This means it won't corner like a sports car but it won't roll over either. It's great for jumping and has RCS on board for controlling flight. Not only that ... it's actually capable of flying! Just keep an eye on your fuel gauges. No monopropellant means no control. We are proud to say we haven't installed reaction wheels. Deserts or polar regions, the Mountain Ghost doesn't care. The passengers won't have to either, it has excellent climate control. The RCS balls on the corners have two purposes. They provide the attitude control but they also offer some protection to the car and occupants in case it rolls over. This is the trip to the carwash. Just remember to remove the koi from the backseat when you leave. The administrator will notice when one of them is missing. He talks to them every day. "Hello? Gene? It's Kelly. Kelly Kerman. You know, from hygiene management level two? Yes, the cleaning lady. Thank you, that's kind. What do you mean? Urrr ... no? Yes but ... Sorry but I need your help! Someone has parked a car on top of mine! Hello? Hello?" Stay tuned for more fantastic vehicles by Lowell. A 77 Industries brand. "Hello? Bob? Hi, remember me? Yes, from the party. No I'm not Brenda. It's Kelly. Yes I know my voice sounds the same. Well, you know ... I've got freckles down there, Brenda has not. Ohw you don't remember. What's Romulan Ale? Oh I see. Hey can you help me? 17. The SIBM Hello my dear friend! Today i am going to showcase new creation!- SIBM "What the hell is that!?" That is an uninflated 3.75m base module! "What does it looks like when it is inflated?'' Surprise! It is very simple in construction and can easilly be sent to anywhere! Its mass is only 2t! How can i use this? What can it do? How does it inflates? What is it made of? 1.You can use it as a storage for everything! Kerbals Rovers Life Support Lab stuff Secret nuclear weapons 2. It can store stuff...kinda... 3. The inflation process is very quick! 4. It is made of navsats! (i forgot their name, sorry) What are minuses and pluses? -It is very vulnerable to reentry and impacts if not retracted. -Costs a lot -Difficult to assembly via KAS +Very very very lightweight +Doors are everywhere +Internet will be great +Doesn't require a lot of power to function +Easy to transport +You can use such design to create bases of any size +Can be used as orbital modules +Can be combined with other parts I won't post the thing because it is a design that is supposed to be used individually. Have fun. GG THIS WILL BE FORGOTTEN WON'T GET A REPLY OR A LIKE IN A WEEK GG
  18. Hello! I just made a little submarine and wanted to share the pictures with you! If you are interested in building one, it's using a J-33 Turbofan engine for propulsion and ore tanks and service bays as ballast.
  19. https://gfycat.com/BothCreativeInganue This is mostly based off of another F-35B I put together about 8 months ago, but it required extensive use of vessel switching to manually control the VTOL engine. Plus, it was rather difficult to fly. Comparison album: https://imgur.com/a/RcBz6 Now, it requires minimal effort to engage and disengage the VTOL system. In fact, here's the proper procedure: Engaging VTOL: 1. Press Action Group 4 Disengaging VTOL: 1. Press Action Group 2 ... That's it. Really. I mean, when switching back to CTOL you might want to have some spare altitude/velocity, but of course that's only a suggestion. 21. Do you want a fast*, free**, stock and agile fighter jet that comes with free snacks****? Introducing the: NIGHT OWL - v1 (If you don’t care about cheesy Kerbal advertising and just spawns the Stats, skip this part.) Featuring 4 Mini tails (Two on the edge of each wing {which also reduce drag and increase handling} and two on the rear of the fuselage), 2 Panther Afterburning Turbofans that give it a short take off run that takes about 4 seconds, large fuel tanks, a unique delta wing that is large, increases agility and makes the NIGHT OWL go faster. It also includes 8 powerful war rockets with 4 on each wing, inspired by the missiles in Danny2462's Kirrim on Duty YouTube Video***. Featuring a Advanced***** Flight deck That can be used for anything including bombing, simple air to air****** or just cruisin' around. About the Engines: If you ever loose control of your NIGHT OWL just press ACTION GROUP 1 To engage the powerful Afterburner. It will put you back in control instantly. BAM! The Engines also have a thrust vectoring system that gives it even more Agility. Agility Thanks to the engines and Canards, the plane can literally turn around on the spot and not lose control! Wow! Feel free to give Feedback so someday I can make NIGHT OWL v-2.
  22. To start off, I would like to credit MajorJim as the original creator of the bearing. Klond and Azimech for developing the modification that uses RCS Balls. Big thanks again to Azimech for showing ways of optimizing the bearing to make it even better and even more reliable. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With that out the way, Here's the actual post. I apologize for not existing for so long, there's no reason for it, I was just too lazy to post again. I've made many planes (mostly with spinny propeller things) so today, the one I've picked out for today is... The DC-3 Dakota (AKA, the C-47 Skytrain) The DC-3 was an airliner developed in the 1930s and was developed from the earlier DC-2. The DC-3 turned out to be one of the most successful aircraft in the world. What makes it unique compared to most aircraft designed before WWII, the DC-3 is still in (limited) use. During WWII, the DC-3 was converted into a military transport called the C-47. It was considered one of the best transports during the war. The replica I've created is down below. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Instructions and Download 1: As soon as the crafts spawns in, turn on the brake. 2: Decouple the propellers and turn on SAS afterward. 3: Switch to one of the propellers using the [ ] keys. 4: If the propeller selected is on the left, hold down ALT and E until the roll indicator in the bottom left has reached completely to the right. 5: If the propeller selected is on the right, hold down ALT and Q until the roll indicator in the bottom left has reached completely to the left. 6: Switch back to the main craft, and turn off the brakes as soon as the propellers are both spinning 7: If done correctly, the plane should start to move. On takeoff, the plane should take off on it's own if left alone with SAS on. 8: Have a nice flight. Try avoiding excess manouevers. Download (HERE) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thank you for reading! Sorry I've been away for a while. However, as a sorry gift for keeping you guys waiting, I have a bonus craft down below. Enjoy!
  23. THE SOVIET N1 LUNAR LANDER AND LK LUNAR MODULE 1762 parts 1,400 tons 30,000kN thrust (first stage) https://kerbalx.com/He_162/N1-L3-Soviet-Lunar-Lander https://imgur.com/a/k16JP (Quick pics below, and a spoiler with almost the full album, for all pictures, refer to link above, or KerbalX page) Changelog: After release I made a second modification due to a few comments, they are: -Modified first stage to remove a large amount of drag. -Added RCS to the orbital module. -Fairings are now clamshell instead of confetti.
  24. 2-6-2T Features: Two cylinders (single acting), Crossheads, Offset crankshaft for a better power stroke, Wheel configuration: 2-6-2. Two leading wheels, six driven wheels, two trailing wheels. Coupling on front and rear, Eight blowers, slightly offset from each other to reduce the hammering effect of the thrust on the pistons, valves, conrods and crankshaft, Valve cooling system, Smoke generator (blocked jet engine pointing up), Firebox with pseudo fire effect using Z-fighting (action group 0 toggles it), Runs on rails. Doesn't run without. Max safe speed: 10.5 m/s. My first "steam" locomotive. There's obviously room for improvement. Too many parts? You can reduce the length of the track, it's 0.5km. Instructions: just hit stage, throttle at 50%. Then gently throttle up as it increases speed to reduce risk of overheating the valves. Note: there's no reverse (yet). Craft file.
  25. I have a working stock propeller (following Squiddy's tutorial). It works properly and will fly, but when I switch from the propeller to the plane, the propeller's trim (alt+e) lock gets reset and it slows down. I have to keep switching back from the plane to the propeller to spin it up again. Does anyone know how to keep the propeller spinning when I switch vessels (keep trim lock on)? Sorry for the possibly confusing description of the problem, please ask if I need to clarify something.
