Poor Dilsby. So how does this persistence device work? Is it similar to the cracks in Doctor Who, where the person is erased from time, or are they just erased then, so everybody can remember them?

It works like the backspace button on your computer... Exactly like the backspace button.

In the Star Trek episode 'Mirror, Mirror', the device simply made the person vanish.  Given that and the fact that editing the persistence file doesn't affect any quicksave file, I imagine it would work just like the Tantalus Device in the Star Trek episode.  Besides, everybody would have to remember so that they would know to advance in rank, or at least so they would know why they were advancing in rank.

Poor Dilsby, indeed!  Dilsby Kerman certainly seems more capable than his counterpart was.  This should be good for the Kerbals, though.  The more time the Kerbulans spend fighting amongst themselves, the less time they spend preparing to destroy Intrepid and its crew.

Happy Concerned landings!

You can see it in action 4:00 minutes into this video

@Kuzzter  hope it's OK posting this.  It's a great little condensed version of the entire Mirror episode in 5 minutes.

I have a theory about the Kerbulans:

(*Engage the tinfoil hat*)

A long time ago, Kerbin was getting overpopulated with something that was a lot like Kerbals, but not quite.  Some of them decided to go to Kerbulus, which was empty and rich with resources, so a loner lifestyle was adopted by most.  However, with no legal structure, after time murdery psychopaths took over.  Backstabbing and trying to ally themselves to the biggest bully became second nature to the Kerbulans.  So they evolved into the murdery race we know today.  However, some are more like their peaceful ancestors, like Wherner Von Kerbulan.

Meanwhile, overpopulation forced Kerbals to abandon their aboveground homes, and move to highly communal underground cities.  A society almost exactly opposite the Kerbulans made all Kerbals extremely peaceful.

Wouldn't it be better if they never knew Dilsby existed, so he wouldn't become a martyr?

Well, not from Val's point of view.  If nobody remembered all the kerbs who disappeared immediately after challenging Val, then nobody would be terrified of her.

I don't think martyrdom even works on Kerbulus.

Happy Concerned landings!

The problem of our heroes might just solve itself if the Kerbulans keep backstabbing each other...

Gotta love those two! Although I didn't know that they had access to medical devices. That reference just made my day! :D

Won't Bill (Kerman) feel something strange happening in persistence.sfs?

I don't think he can see the

KERBULAN {} nodes or spaceships, otherwise he would have done something already. He can probably only alter the persistence file as it applies to Kerbals.

KERBULAN
{
	name = Valentina Kermulan
	gender = Female
	evil = 0.5
	dumb = 0.5
	sHole = True
	prisoner = False
	state = In Flight
	ToD = 0
	idx = 3
	CAREER_LOG
	{
		flight = 3
		0 = Flight,Kerbulus
		0 = Suborbit,Kerbulus
		0 = Escape,Kerbulus
		0 = Orbit,Kerbulus
		0 = Land,Kerbulus
		0 = Recover
		1 = Land,Num
		1 = Orbit,Num
		1 = Suborbit,Num
		1 = Escape,Num
		1 = Kill,Orbit,Num
		1 = Recover
		2 = Orbit,Bright Light In The Sky
		2 = Kill,Bright Light In The Sky
	}
	FLIGHT_LOG
	{
		flight = 3
	}
}

Similarly, Bill Kermulan can't see the Kerbal save files.

I wonder what Val has on Bill to keep his loyalty.  Whatever it is, it must be fairly compelling.

Indeed! And we'll certainly explore that in future episodes :)

Wait, you mean a Kerbulan... care about... another Kerbulan? Oh, now that's a good one! :)

Oh yeah, if Bill could get to the Kerbulian pesistence, he'd have god-like power over them.  Without having to kill them, he'd have many ways to render them totally harmless.  Like rigging their engines to explode, blocking all their hatches, dumping all their fuel, etc.

Or he could just as easily send them back to Kerbulus, regardless of what they tried.

Might it work the other way, too? I'm curious to see how Kuzzter will solve this... in the canon literature, of course,

@Kuzzter has already stated that the respective Bills can only access the persistance file for their own people. But I don't think that has been confirmed in-story yet.

Exactly, so it's not canon yet. As I said, I want to see Kuzzter's in-story explanation of why that is.

Or edit their persistence to Kerbal one, so we could have:-

Anitnelav Kerman (Val)

Llib Kerman (Bill)

Bobby Kerman (Bob)

Ybslid Kerman (Dilsby)

Haidebej Kerman (Jebediah)

Woah, so we have a Russian (Val), a Jew (Dilsby), a Arabian (Jeb), a American (Bob) and erm.., any guesses as to Llib?

Spoiler

"The smooth faced ones will not escape this time! We shall steal their super weapon and destroy them with it!"
"25 Kilometers."
"Prepare to open-"

"Armed unknown craft, please disarm your weapons and shut down you engines."

"Who is that?!?"
"20 Kilometers"

"This is Creativity Aerospace's Deimos IV Warship. We received a SOS from the KSS Intrepid."

"Creativity Aerospace?!? RUN AWAY!!!"
"10 Kilometers"

"We have 26 heavy missiles locked on you."

"Where are you?!?"
"5 Kilometers"

"Turn around."
"Commander Gusnard? We are rapidly approaching the Intrepid.

"It doesn't matter now! Open fire!"
"Impact! Direct hit!"

"Yeah, about that... That's the Deimos III. We were on patrol together."
"Deimos IV to III. Come in III. Open fire on Kerbulun ship."

"AAAAAAAAAA!!!"

Aboard the Laythe One colony ship...

"Oh hey! Nice fire works!"

Never mess with Creativity Aerospace patrols. Or else...

Enjoy the view indeed.  What a great shot of Intrepid, Tylo, and Jool!

If you're going to Pol, be aware that there are some of those invisible mountains about.  I was mostly able to avoid them and successfully mined Pol many times.

Great update, Kuzzter.  Thanks!

Happy landings!

Yes, thanks for the heads-up! Fortunately we can take advantage of the fact this is a Weltraumflugshper... er, a spacecraft carrier. I'll likely scout the landing site first with a Gumdrop and/or the rover. That is, unless Jeb or Melbe jumps out an airlock and jetpacks to the surface before I can get the hangar doors open :)

Maybe the power comes from their kPad Tablets, not their own magic powers. If Bill Kerman got a Kerbudroid Tablet from a Kerbulan engineer, he might be able to use that against the Kerbulans.

Don't the Kerbulans use "KBM" devices? :wink:

Also, spotted @Kuzzter's reference to Kirk/Marlena there :D
