Changing forum background colour (med reasons)

Hi all,

 I have these things called eye floaters, a few bigguns that are super visible on a white background.

 It makes viewing the forum really unpleasant for me, can I change the background to black? I don't really want to wear sunglasses each time..

Thanks!

MJ

While I don't believe there is a fix for it right now, I can assure you it is possible with the stylish addon. Someone more skilled than me is going to have to make it, however.

I have these as well, though they have reduced with age, I was told they would get worse but it's rare I see them now.

There's no alternative themes yet unfortunately, but @5thHorseman made me aware of a Chrome and Firefox plugin called Stylish which can change the forum colours until then.

Hope this helps!

OK thanks man, I will look into that. Also nice to hear they have reduced for you. They are an ever present part of life now.. It's a great excuse for wearing sunglasses though.

If you can deal with shades of blue, here's my Stylish theme in the Spoiler... Most of the gray text fades into the background however...(I have no idea how to change the font colors, or the post backgrounds in the Activity Streams... :( ) ... Theres still a lot of white in some backgrounds, but CERTAINLY much better than the stock theme we are (hopefully, temporarily) stuck with...

And you can adjust the width of the black sidebars by changing the % in line 58...

 .ipsLayout_container {
        max-width: 90%;

  Reveal hidden contents

BIG Thanx to @aramil , @n.b.z.  & @tygoo7 for providing the base, and tips on how to customize the colors, all found here:

  (And WHO uses a light gray text, on white and light blue backgrounds?!?!?...Well, I guess obviously Innvision Power Services does... blech)

Our stock forum theme

Have you tried customizing your browser's color scheme? This is what I had in IE, before I stopped using it due to security warnings.

OOH, that could be great!

 Thank you to everyone who replied, I will try all of those and settle on my favorite.

Have a bit of patience.

"Eye floaters" sounds like something that sucks. You are for sure not the first who would prefer light text on a dark background, but your reason for it sort of takes the cake.

I'm now working on something more extensive than my first style mod. Since this will need to invert basically everything, it's going to take a bit longer. I've gotten far enough along to think that I'll manage to pull it off. And if I choose ugly colors, others may use it as a template / blueprint for their own version.

Watch this space.

Whoa, that was quite some endeavour, which depleted my coffee reserves considerably.

I have uploaded a new style sheet. It's not perfect, because it isn't even really finished yet, and probably has a number of weird bugs. But it DOES turn off the light, if I may say so myself.

I made a new post about it here:
