Serial Space Station: Add your own module! (Closed - check out the new Community Space Station thread instead!)

Mission complete.  File is here:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/b16b8z9fr4ffizi/KSS.sfs?dl=0

Bonus:  Here is the craft file on KerbalX: https://kerbalx.com/linuxgurugamer/escape-2a

I made a stupid mistake, I put a drogue chute on instead of a main chute, but figured that I'd let the cmd pod crash rather than do the whole thing over again.  Yes, I killed my kerbals, but it was a "simulation".  I initially docked to the sr. docking port off of the asteroid, but it was too wobbly, so I undocked and moved it to the other available sr. docking port.  Here is the station as it is now:

I have a LOT of images (I use AutomatedScreenshots, had over 1300 images to look at), the following is a nice view of the entire mission:

I reran the mission for myself, because I didn't like that mistake I did.  For this mission, I added a neat little mod called T-MEME, see if you can figure out what it does from the album below.  I only took images at the beginning and the end, and for fun I have the portraits of Jeb, Bill & Bob after landing:

I the future, when the station gets big people might wonder how this or that module ended up on the station. Would be nice to have screenshots of those missions.

Step 6 to complete the challenge: " Take pictures of the mission ", a vid will do as well I suppose.

@Jetski I have a peculiar question. Does the mission to add a module accept only stock station building techniques? Or anything which is not savebreaking and not cheaty?

I'm asking because claw docking is very wobbly and there are very shallow limits to using that claw as a root, especially when building on an asteroid. There are modded techniques which are 100% not savebreaking. One example is KIS surface attachment which makes station building very rigid, especially on that asteroid.

Ack, stupid mobile site keep trapping me in nested quotes.

Anyway.

As regards to modded techniques, I would prefer to keep everything stock here. One of the goals of this is to provide newer players with some examples of station building possiblilities and a chance to play around with the savegame. Modded stuff is a slippery slope, and I don't want anyone baffled by how we managed to attach stuff directly to an asteroid.

Incidentally, does circular docking work?  If 2 klawed on section gimbal close enough to each other to connect doing ports, does that summon the kraken?  I think I haven't tried that yet.

@linuxgurugamer nice screenshots, I really wish I could play with scatterer. My laptop is just too old for it. And I thought before that you play exclusively on Linux :D

Thanks.  As I said, I use AutomatedScreenshots to grab a pic every 5 seconds.  So I had over 1300 images to choose from :-)

I play on Linux when I need the memory.  For this, I set up a new install and just loaded the mods I wanted (editor stuff, mostly).  I learned a long time ago that it's hard to always grab a screenshot at the right time, but if you have an automated collection, you can then just pick and choose the best.  It's why I wrote AutomatedScreenschots.

Um... it's getting really glitchy now... and there's the universe crashing :(. With this many setbacks, could someone else send the module up for me? Thx a million if so. I don't think I can trust my copy of the save anymore ;)

You can always re-download the save and it's fresh.  Try downloading direct from the OP, I just tested it and it's usable on my laptop, which is a potato.  It's possible we are reaching critical mass on the station - part count is into the 80s now.  When it gets unwieldy, I'll encourage missions to take bits of the station away (perhaps fly part of the station to the Mun?), but lets see if we can pile a few more modules on :)

Also, I need to mention struts here.  If you connect struts to your module, please make sure the struts are running FROM your ship TO your module, otherwise when you detach the little base piece stays with the station and counts as a part.  I just detached and deorbited @linuxgurugamer's module as it counted as 18 parts to the game engine (I put a clean version of the module back up).  This is a good practice for your own ships as well, if the struts run from boosters to your main stage, you shed the mass and parts when you stage, otherwise it stays with you for the duration.  As of 1.05 struts have mass and physics, so will slow the game down like any other part. I've updated the OP with this info.

Also, I made up a badge (with my mad Paint skills) and posted it on the OP!
