Spaceception
So basically... We need 100 percent clean energy, vertical/floating cities, interplanetary colonization, and space mining in order to sustain the Earth's population by 2100. Of course, we all know this, but it'd be great if you guys could share this everywhere Edited April 25, 2016 by Spaceception

Darnok
This is nonsense, its not number of people that is problem, but american style of life, where you only consume energy and resources. Most of people blame China for CO2 production, but they are not aware that most of China industry is USA industry located in China, so USA could avoid bad PR and taxes. We shouldn't blame countries for production of things, because production is progress, we should blame and tax USA for 50+% of global consumption of energy and resources. Taxes should be changed, so we would pay for things we own, not for how much we earn. Another solution for large population density is expanse to the Moon and other planets for new lands and resources. Clean energy is bad idea, because you ruin your economy by funding solar or wind solutions from taxes. What causes money sink, for temporary solutions, and you can't afford to invest more into space programs.

It is better to burn more coal and oil and have more money for developing space program that will payoff in near future, than waste money on clean energy. Clean energy still needs heavy industry to mine metals, produce solar panels and batteries, wind turbines needs lots of lands that can not be used in any way, you need lots of cables to connect them. And clean energy is expensive if you compare it with coal energy, we can't expand and invest more into new technologies if we waste money on tax-funding replacements for coal and oil. I'm also very confused. This argument makes no sense!!! On the one hand you're saying American industry is to blame for pretty much everything and we should be taxed half of what we own for it. But on the other hand, you're saying switching to clean energy is bad, which is becoming a huge thing in the U.S. So what are we supposed to do, give up on a clean energy policy and go back to coal burning so you have an endless excuse to blame us for everything and tax us to death, just so you can go to space? Huhhhh??????
Snark
Sorry, folks, gotta lock this one. Although the thread might have been intended as an innocent discussion of scientific challenges, it quickly became overtly political and looks unsalvageable at this point. Political discussion in the forums is expressly forbidden in the forum guidelines, and for good reason: it very often veers quickly into contentious flame wars, in which direction the current thread is rapidly heading. For folks who want to talk about this sort of thing, there are plenty of forums for political discussion out there on the internet-- let's please keep politics out of our little space game, shall we? Thank you for your understanding.
