That sharp blue in Tellumo's outer ring! :0.0: And ...and Nero!

If I may nitpick...Maybe a thinner ring for Tellumo. Something in the direction of Uranus. A lot of moons/asteroids may have to have been sacrificed to the ring god for that healthy-looking thing....or maybe a lesser twin planet.

I do plan to adjust the rings.  What I have completed was just 15 min of work and testing. I plan on custom rings for Tellumo.

Yes and no I like the idea of Tellumo having a ring. Nero looks good as with the rings. Perhaps Gauss should have some rings? And if Tellumo would end up having rings? Maybe a custom ring texture?

Tellumo will have a very different ring to it. The current one was just an exercise to quickly get something done and provide a sample. :)

Coming soon™ to a SpaceDock near you.

From the guys who brought you:

  • Realistic Atmospheres
  • Stock Visual Allthethings
  • And an actual working USS Enterprise

Creative juice was temperamental again. :P

Spoiler

Star Trek font. Because why not?

What's that, Galileo? Remake the planet chart with all the actual planets? :0.0:

I see Gauss has a different atmosphere colour in that poster. Don't tell me it'll have a different atmosphere colour. :(((((((((

I tinted the planets blue to match the background some. Gauss hasn't changed one bit. :D

It's also inclined because at the time I screenshot it, I couldn't be bothered to edit out orbit lines. More of its north pole is showing, if anything.

You wouldn't...

No it hasn't changed.  The pic @JadeOfMaar used just doesn't have Scatterer on it

You tempt me, Galileo.

I've tried a few things, even installing Scatterer from the v0.5 package but that gets me a flood of Null Ref.

Thats odd.  I don't receive any null ref on 0.5 or 0.6.

If I tempt you,  it's with a good time!

I see what I did there. Scatterer behaves now (v0.2.55?) but the sun flare is not what I installed. Not a problem but now I really see the difference in Gauss with(out) it. I see your pain @Duski :D I feel it for Gael.

The directory and cfg changed quite a bit for the sunflare in 0.255

Change all three.

You can have multiple flares btw by adding entries in 2 and 3.

I suspected as much when I saw this post and your question above, in the Scatterer dev thread, about 3 places where code needed to change. I'm gonna update that fancy poster with a better-looking Gael and Gauss. :P

On the subject of Geysers, they shouldn't actually be too hard as you can lock the rotation down to the planetary surface and then add a volumetric particle cloud that primarily has speed in the y-axis and jitter mostly in the y-axis. You could add two layers super imposed at slightly different altitudes with the upper layer having a large scale jitter to simulate a Geyser plume.

Im pretty positive that what I did.  I'll send you my cfg when I get home and if you suggest any change just let me know. @OhioBob because i locked the texture to the surface,  you should only be able to see the geysers on the day side.  The do happen on the night side but it's too dark to see.

Also @Poodmund,  I don't feel like I fleshed out the biomes as well as I should have so if there are any you see in particular that need some loving,  feel free.  Your work is always better than min anyway :)

Tempted by @Galileo, went to sleep. Woke up, now I know exactly what to do with all the planets like with just those four for the cover art.

Spoiler

Elite: Dangerous star system chart

I've been hit with Inception in the truest form. *plays the theme song*

Can't wait to see the final product :)

I've been experimenting with atmospheric entry at Tellumo and it is indeed possible to aerocapture and to even do a direct entry and landing from a high speed interplanetary trajectory.  I just had my periapsis set too low on my previous attempts.  Using a Mk1-2 command pod, a periapsis altitude of 20000 m, and an entry velocity of 6100 m/s, I managed to safely land, though I did get up to 92% of the critical temperature.

:D I can't wait, either, but I won't have the luxury to play the game for a while and screenshot the planets.

Oh yeah. I did two tests last night but didn't think they'd be too important to mention.

  1. I designed a turbocharged spaceplane which happened to very loosely resemble the Normandy. Under 40t and with 8 Rapiers and only LF, it can make an 80km superjump on Gael/Kerbin.
Reference condition: Rapiers die at 30km. IntakeAir stops at 38km.

The plane could only 'superjump' to 20km in Tellumo's atmosphere (with the 40km height)... but with enough heat protection it can cruise at Mach 5.2 max at 10km up.
Result condition: Rapiers die at 20km. IntakeAir stops at ~24km.

  2. I plugged SCANsat into my game to go out and map terrain. That mod politely left reminders for me in the Debug window that the CRP configs need some love. I didn't take it too seriously then, but now I'm giving this highest priority. This planet pack can't reach v0.8 and there's that high probability that no one's mining equipment will work.

  3. Okay I did three tests. I drove the test plane into a boulder and the heat shield exploded. : D Terrain confirmed!

Gael is the exact same size as Kerbin and uses Kerbin's atmospheric model from my Realistic Atmospheres mod.  So for anyone familiar with RA, flying at Gael should be identical.  The RA atmosphere is also very similar to stock Kerbin, so there shouldn't be much difference there either.  (Both Kerbin's stock atmosphere and its RA atmosphere are based on real life models of Earth, so they're natural very similar.)
