One of the restaurants here in town that is on our normal date night rotation just got a robot waiter, looked a lot like that, just had more shelves inside for different dishes. Not surprising, since all of the restaurants in our town are chronically understaffed. It didn't serve us, we just saw it serving other tables.

My mother was recently at the hospital and while visiting her I saw an robot drive out of the elevator, picking up an empty rack and then stopped, I assumed it called the elevator again as it and the rack was gone then I passed again some minutes later. It had an name I assume it for easier identification if it get confused.

found a tigermoth larvae on the way home from my head shrink. its a fuzzybug, in a black-yellow-black fur coat with little white whiskers. i brought it home to show mom, she was tickled pink. i then figured id let it go, so i put him on a salmon berry bush, which is where i found em.

so cat walked on the keyboard and chrome help came up, rather than removing the cat and undoing the damage, i entered "there is a cat on my keyboard".  finding no useful information, i minimized chrome and hit f1 again to get windows help. and with cortana shoved into an oubliette somewhere, bing came up and greeted me with an article about cats on keyboards. neither source suggested simply removing the cat (of course expect recompencement, cats are big on revenge).

+1 for “oubliette.” :D

Finished the business trip and back home last night- just went to another city about 200km away from us with my group to visit our client's factory.

Then, starting last night, because of a typhoon that hasn't died down yet, our part of the metropolitan area with a radius of 300km was experiencing record-breaking downpours. When I came out of the high-speed railway station and took the metro home, I saw that the gov had put up the highest rainstorm warning signal, but at this time, it was not that raining heavily outside. Then after arriving home at 9 to 10 pm, the rain started to fall harder and harder.

Hong Kong, Shenzhen's neighbouring city last night:

According to the weather sector, the average rainfall last night in Shenzhen was 202.8 mm, maximum cumulative rainfall was 469.0 mm. Born and grew up in Shenzhen but that was really the first time I saw rain in this heavy.

This morning I saw the district where our office is located was soaked in water. All roads can go in here been lockdown as well as the metro.

So, the funny thing today is we're shutting down today.

OK, looks like I'm going to have to tour the Moscow subway again. This is Pykhtino, a station in the relative middle of nowhere, but as of yesterday connecting to Vnukovo airport.

a.k.a. Tupolev airport. Which, ahem, shows.

Is there a similar one, honoring Sukhoi?

Because the 2018 mass renaming of airports was subject to online voting (surrounded by many controversies subject to subsequent selective presidential... disregard), the results are an absolute hit and miss. Not one single other aircraft designer (besides, technically, Korolev) made it onto the list, the results were... amusingly monarchist (Nikolai II Airport of Murmansk being a particularly surprising finale, and Kaliningrad had to end up with Empress Elizabeth because someone "vetoed" the leading option, Immanuel Kant, by vandalizing his grave... all Germans bad, yadda-yadda).

Too bad. But this station could have been a good place for the Russian hosts to "think of an excuse to bring the old friends for a visit" when some of the old experts (or their young successors) from China cooperating with Soviet were visiting. And then do it again: "My friend, you guys don't use Tu-16 anymore, don't you?"

For me, for most of us it is September 10th, for some of you its early September 11th. Why is this relevant? I just saw the FIRST Christmas commercial of 2023. It was for Disney and something to do with its various parks but wow. Its a “funny” thing in a are they doing ok at Disney in their advertisement wing because that was kinda concerning.

No Christmas before Thanksgiving!!!

But according to my previous experience in England, I even saw those staff in Marks & Spencer by my eyes physically shooting Christmas ads at mid of July:D

This whole bs of marketing one holiday well in advance before the preceding holiday(s) have happened is just grotesque. I honestly blame greed for it. But today is a first for me. Ive never seen a full blown christmas commercial this far in advance before. Usually i get to 11-01-XXXX before they start. Its worrisome.

I walked a goat today. :/

I must admit, when I woke up this morning, those are not words I was expecting to utter today.

GBxUGhg.jpg

We came around the corner on the way home and my wife was like, "that's... not a deer..." He was just standing there in the middle of the road looking cornfused. She noted the collar on him, so I parked, hopped out, grabbed a random leash from the back seat, and turns out he's incredibly friendly. Or hungry. Or both. He came right up to me and proceeded to lick my hand, at which point we very nearly owned our first goat. Sigh. But yeah, we figured he belonged to a neighbor and got loose. So some mild drama and a walk around the loop ensued until we found his caretaker out looking for him. Apparently his actual owner is somewhat AWOL, too.

Oh, and his name is William. ^_^

Gonna have to step up our efforts on that goat pen now...

Awesome story!

I went walking with the wife a (too many) years ago and we heard this kid screaming.  No one responded and it just kept going on and on.  Finally I figured out what yard it was and peeked over the fence.  Someone had tied the kid to a Coleman grill and it was all upset about it.

We had a good laugh.

I just got incredibly stupidly lucky. My drivers license was set to expire next month. It used to be you just go to the DMV and wait in line. Now at least in texas you (if unable or ineligible for online renewal) are required to make an appointment. I got my notice from the state several months ago and sat on it. I wanted to wait until this month to make my appointment. I figured it couldnt be that bad. Yeah… that was a HUGE mistake. When I went online this morning to make my appointment the DMV closest to me had no appointment until NEXT JANUARY!!!!!! The soonest appointment I could find at a further away DMV was December of this year. I began to panic. Then I saw that some offices would take “walk in” appointments on a limited basis of first come first serve. So, grabbed my stuff and went to the closest office. Then fear set in. One sign almost broke me: “This office is by appointment only.” So now in pure panic mode I drove towards a different office. Same sign. But I decided to walk in anyway.  I figured at least they could point me at an office that could do same day. Because of a SINGLE WEEK LONG GLITCH they were doing both same day appointments and prescheduled I had a CHANCE. I needed my birth certificate because of the new Real ID system, so I had to leave to get it. I went to my bank where I keep it, got it from my vault and made haste for the DMV. I got there, was given an application for renewal and got it done. Im good for several years. But guys, if you get a notice saying you are in need of renewing in at least texas MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT ASAP!!! Learn from my seriously bad judgment on not scheduling instantly. Do not risk it!!

now, im going to go shake as i come off adrenaline!

Ah, walk-ins vs online registration. Always fun.

I remember how amused I was when I learnt that the local passport office mixed the two. Depending on the mood, the appointments would be either disregarded entirely, and everyone enjoyed the same 50+ person queue, or they'd alternate between appointments and walk-ins.

:joy: It's a five-hour drive from here. And it's a different river system with us.

Meanwhile, there is also the "traditional post-typhoon programme" of big fish escaping from nearby aquaculturists' nets and flooded reservoirs. You can very easily pick up oysters, mussels and all kinds of clams on the beach - literally pick them up without any searching.

I also read about a hotel that said that a pool of koi carp worth tens of thousands of RMB alone for the single fish that they kept in a carp pond in the hotel lobby had been washed out because of flooding.

However, several stations on the other metro line are still under repair because the whole station with the metro tunnel was filled with water. If I remember correctly the deepest of those metro stations is about five floors - because of the integration of underground shopping streets. It seems that the water was basically pumped out yesterday (finally!). The other thing that was almost basically pumped out yesterday was the nearby underground parking garage. The insurance company will be busy for a while lol

What a mess!

Add: their local media said that they have already got 8 of them - and shoot them dead immediately.

Hope this weekend can be good weather - four weekends in row of extremely heavy rains!
