It lasted all of a fraction of a second but I actually saw detail, like fire or plasma or whatever blowing off. Then I had a green/orange line through my vision for a half hour :D

Ruined your night vision that, would be an big one.
Saw one as an teen who was impressive more so it flashed then went dark and started up again.
One in gang said it was an anti air missile test as it looked as it was going up and it was an two stage missile.
Who we agree on, plausible outside you don't test long range SAM in populated areas.

this post very nearly earned itself the negative thread. i am going to sound dramatic, but, this was very nearly catastrophic. my very life flashed before my eyes a few minutes ago. See, I was playing MLB The Show 24 and decided to swap over to watch something on Disney+. Well, Disney+ glitched out and didnt log in. I cut the app off on my PS5 and went to relaunch it. If at first it fails, try again right? This is where I thought my world just up and caught fire. See when I went to relaunch the app, my screen went dark as it does, but then it just FROZE. It wouldnt change. I shut my ps5 off, and nothing, still glowing darkness <LCD screen what can i say?>. I changed feeds to my cable box on a different HDMI cable. Still no change. I thought my TV up and died. Turns out, that tv glitched and glitched HARD. It is NOT a smart TV thank the stars. I tried everything I could think of. Turn the tv on and off. no change. swap HDMI ports, no change. Plug the cable box into a different port, still nothing. I sat there staring at an oddly glowing tv thinking that I am about to be forced into buying a new tv, one that very well may need an internet connection to work at all <i really do not want that, spectrum is sketchy enough with its internet, i dont need it to take my tv out when the internet goes down. When the internet goes down, I watch dvds and if a smart tv cant hear the internet then theres a chance it wont even let me watch stuff offline let alone my cable. I hate that thought. worse yet, spectrum hard corded my wifi antennas off because my cable modem/wifi unit is 1 unit and nearly 7 years old, so they are TRYING to force me into gear that is 2 items with less reliability... I nearly started crying from the stress. Getting back on topic, something hit me. I dont know if it was my friend who passed away in august of 2020 <im an atheist and dont believe in the supernatural so, i cant say what provoked the thought> reaching out from beyond to do what he always did best, calm my stupid butt down for 20 seconds to hard stop the tv by literally pulling its plug. Sure enough, pulling the plug full killed the tv and its back to normal. what ever normal around me is. Let this be a lesson: When in doubt TURN UNPLUG IT! I know we all know that adage of turn it off/on to see if THAT fixes it, well, guys, what works on our phones, our computers, our consoles, works on our TV's as well. I want a hug. will one of you give me a hug? Im soo stressed out. 012101072025

The purpose of 'smart' technology is to convince us that we don't want AI-integrated technology. This is clearly an insightful move by the time travelers who control the government. Wait, come back! I have more theories!

i cannot stand AI. The movie of the same name? meh lol. But for real though, AI is just horrid.  Siri? Shut down. I will not turn it on. Cortana on my PC? Off. I wont have an alexa or anything like that. Sorry but my private space is just that. Private. When the borg come, they can assimilate me or what ever, but, I will not have AI in my home. No thank you! Things that do NOT need internet connections: TV's, Refrigerators, microwaves, watches, our cars and any other appliance you can think of.

Ok into other stuff: KSP just GASLIT me into thinking it was broken! I loaded it up and wasnt paying attention to it. I looked up and it was at the point where it was loading the 2nd part of breaking ground or w/e expansion and it just sat there. I stared at it for a moment thinking it froze, then it moved and said expansion loading complete... sheesh. First Disney+ gets glitchy as all get out and now ksp? Did I ignore the kraken for too long over the 4 years I had last touched KSP and last night?? oh well, off to see how much more I forgot in KSP

Amen to that. If people 50 years ago didn't need a smart toaster, neither do I.

Welcome back to KSP! I think it has to do with how loading bars work. This Tom Scott video does a good job of explaining why.

While technically this is about ksp, i do not know if it truly fits the ksp 1 forum section. Its more of a nostalgic blast from our past courtesy of matt lowne. For those who were not here in the way back times of pre 1.0 or even earlier you may not know what we had to play with or just how far ksp has come. That said come with me down memory lane!

All credit to matt lowne!

Its pretty common for stuff need to be unplugged to reboot it. Especially stuff who is on hot stand by like an TV. And its an computer in it even if not Smart.
Unlike many smart items an smart TV makes sense as you can use it to stream without an separate box for this.

I disagree. A tv should not be smart. You stick internet into it and you increase your problems. Internet goes down? Watch cable, but with a smart tv hooked to internet you may lose even cable if internet dies. Popup ads? They invade. Sorry but i dont want the bs i face on the internet to invade my tv. Or my oven, or my fridge, or my watch, or my books, or my car, or anything else that should never be internet connected. Tech is fine but my god we do not need to connect everything to everything else like its the bloody borg collective. 135301132025

Yes, but then you have an set top box with the same problems, workmate had internet go down so he watched TV, cable was still up but he could not change canal without internet because the software require it to switch.

I disagree.

You make many fine points and I personally agree with them, but there is a segment of the population that values ease of use to simplicity of design, and for these people a Smart TV is a boon. Buy a TV, Plug it in, Give a few companies a credit card and bam you're watching Grey's Anatomy in no time.

I just wish that - along with all the Smart TVs - there was even the option to not buy one.

And don't get me started with trying to find a refrigerator without a built-in ice machine.

Box (at least my Roku) breaks, buy a new box for $50.

TV breaks, good luck finding a good one for so cheap.

My cable box does not have this problem. Only time i cant change channels (power ((or batteries lol)) not withstanding is if cable itself futzs out.

And its this segment of our population that makes life more dangerous for the rest of us, or more complicated or both. The more internet linked things you have or are FORCED to have the more vulnerable to cyber attacks you become. Heck its why i vehemently refuse things like alexa or siri or tesla (im even more justified now than EVER for refusing tesla) or yes smart appliances.  Suffice it to say: if it didnt need internet 20+ years ago it never needs it NOW. Full stop. Im sick of the few making the many suffer. 183701132025

i generally dont like "smart" technology. nine times out of ten it simply overcomplicates what you want to do and doesn't add anything to the experience. i like dumb tvs, dumb phones, dumb appliances, dumb cars, etc.

The key misleading term here is "smart." Any appliances marketing themselves as being smart are lying to you. The only thing they have to differentiate themselves is intelligence. Humans have shown that when you have intelligence, it's hard to make smart decisions because you now know more decisions you can make. An appliance lacking intelligence has only one option: do what the human says. (Breaking is the second option, but it's not done out of choice unless you're Apple.) Regardless of how the future turns out, I hope that I can at least choose the level of intelligence in my appliances, rather than only being presented with ones touting high intelligence. Or maybe good decision-making capabilities will become how intelligent products compete amongst themselves, like this xkcd (Rule of xkcd: For any subject, there is a relevant comic):

With an attempt to make a second copy of KSP for mod-specific save reasons, I discovered that my drive was practically full! I decided to put my movies on a thumb drive to free up space, and since I gave my phone an SD card, I no longer need to keep older photos on my computer, which also takes up lots of space. Not surprisingly, KSP takes up the most room. No compromises on that one.

Here I agree, now an horse don't know traffic rules but its rules who can be added and with the expectation that others might break the rules.
In Norway we have an term plank driving, as in child's play, its dates to the people using horse and cart taking planks from the sawmill to the train station the horse did the driving having done it for years.
Horse like most mammals are pretty smart.

I invited a few friends over to watch Starship Flight 7 with me. I had a great time and loved explaining how the vehicle works and what the plans for it are. It's a shame about the Ship, but at least it means nobody had to stand around awkwardly while it coasted in space.
