YNM
This should be somewhere in the Science ! threads, but I'm not sure if I can add anything much to the resulting topic itself. I live on the equator, air conditioning for cooling is a must even in rain season. I've read from a long time ago that there are reversible ones and I've always wondered how exactly one would reverse it, and what it would look like... Well, finally we have video explanation and evidence. Edited February 28, 2021 by YNM

See, now I live in a very mild, not too hot not too cold climate, and I got a heat pump specifically because it was more economical for warmth than the old electric “furnace.” The fact that I also got air conditioning out of the deal was a (very appreciated) bonus. For even more efficiency (and up front cost), you can use the ground as your heat source (even tho it’s always the same temperature a few meters down ). Or got the opposite direction, and start pumping some really massive amounts of heat, and you can liquify air.

Lewie
Hey guys- Ol' Lewie got a pretty bad concussion on Sunday! We got a snowstorm on Saturday, with freezing rain....it was pretty much a skating rink outside. Went out Sunday morning, slipped on some ice...Wacked my head on the sidewalk. Blacked out, actually. Some people driving by stopped to help, and called 911. (My parents were out of town) Man, it was nuts....couldn't remember where I was and what year it was. Took an ambulance to the ER, got a CT scan and all that jazz. Everything has been very....'scattered' every since. Won't be on the forums for a couple weeks. Take care, everyone! -Signing off Lewie

TheSaint
Job Satisfaction Story of the Day: I get a ticket: "User X has stopped working at the college, but is still a student. She says she continues to receive work emails in her mailbox. Please stop User X from receiving work-related emails." I respond, "I removed User X's work email (firstname.lastname@collegedomain) from her mailbox, while leaving her student email (username@studentdomain) on her mailbox. She should no longer receive work related emails." Response: "User X would like to retain firstname.lastname@collegedomain email address. Please just stop work-related emails from being delivered to mailbox." Oh, how silly of me. I should have just pressed the "Stop Work-Related Emails" button. Ultimate Steve
Today, I flew the Ascender Mk8 for the first time, and it flew! The line I have between "successful flight" and "unsuccessful flight" is very blurred, but this is indisputably my first successful, no asterisks, hot air balloon flight! It rose about 2-3 feet from its starting position and hovered for roughly 30 seconds. Also I got an A on my physics exam!

Well, we also had a generator kept the house warm while the temperature nearly went into the negative F (-18C), and we fixed a frozen pipe behind my toilet as the pipe was outside the fricking insulation. the pool did freeze around two inches, we broke the ice a bit, it refroze, I stood on the ice lol, and there was like five inches of snow, and when the temp finally got to about 30 and the snow wasn’t powdery like flour, we made snowmen! Spoiler My neighbor gave theirs bobs almost too much detail lol, and also a carrot nose lol Also, we had no power for 36 hours, power for 12 hours, then no power for 14, and finally it came back on and didn’t go off lol. If we hadn’t fixed an insulation issue last year, it would have been a LOT worse than a small section of frozen pipe that didn’t burst lol

I need to have their email forwarded to Person X who is replacing them." So I forwarded their email. Today I receive a new ticket: "Person X is receiving both personal and work emails forwarded from the two former colleagues. We need to have just work emails forwarded to him." Apparently I really need to get to work on that "Work email vs personal email" filter software. It's high in demand.

TheSaint
I swear. Just had two conversations with users. One wherein I had to explain that when the user asks me to move files the files that were moved will no longer be where they used to be. Because I moved them. As they asked me to. And the other in which I noted to a user as part of a response to a request that every person involved would have to individually log in and request access to the resource being requested. In their immediate response they ask, "So, can I request access for everyone or do they each have to log in and request access individually?" It's Friday. It's Friday. Take deep cleansing breaths, and focus on five o'clock.

Because I moved them. They asked you to move the file from left to right. They didn't want you to make the file shelf empty. They just want to take the file from the shelf where they always take it, and if you need to move it on the shelf, you welcome. 1 hour ago, TheSaint said: "So, can I request access for everyone or do they each have to log in and request access individually?" GuessingEveryDay
Umm... I have a Cochlear implant that allows me to hear, but for the last few months I had to use a mic that could act as a transmitter/speaker for my Cochlear, but it leaves much of the sound out. And a month ago, I cracked and started looking for headphones. And they arrived today. Oh, how I missed you, Bass!
StrandedonEarth
I had to take my kid into Vancouver (a 90-minute drive each way) to see his specialist for some extractions, all part of growing up with a cleft palate repair. While we were there we stopped in at the Canucks team store at Rogers Place, where he picked up a limited run (222 of them) Daniel Sedin jersey-hat, allegedly made from an actual jersey. When we got to the dental office and mentioned his scoop, they mentioned that at least one of the Sedins' wives had been in that office. Cool that. We could have gone closer to home, but he's the guy that has done the work (bone graft) on my son so far, so he's the one that will do the heavy work period. Nobody but the best to work in my kid's mouth, and that the Sedins go there proves it
AlamoVampire
what funny/interesting thing happened to me? Well, I was playing Elite Dangerous and I was in the system called: SPF-LF 1 chasing a bounty that was running from me and I tripped over a fleet carrier. What was special about this particular fleet carrier that has me posting about it here? Glad you asked! That is how it first appeared to me. I decided to get closer and abandon my chase. This is what that same fleet carrier looks like: And just for fun this is what my ship looks like. It is an Anaconda named Stellar Stiletto. Props to you if you know where my ships name comes from! I think it was both interesting and funny to trip over a Kerbal Fleet Carrier in Elite Dangerous. Whomever you are that owns that thing I am jealous! Also, I am looking forward to the expansion coming out are you? 033903072021 that green glow you see around my ships bow and the fleet carrier is my night vision mode. 035803072021 Edited March 7, 2021 by AlamoVampire
tater
Was at Total Wine yesterday shopping for not-wine (bitters and amari, mostly), and right across from the bitters was snack stuff, including local biscochitos. There's a local bakery here called Celina's Biscochitos (they ship) that makes the perfect version of the state cookie of New Mexico. Now I'm eating all the cookies.
