I’m working on upgraded manned fighters, but I decided to try an unmanned craft. It works well so far, so here’s FighterU1: https://kerbalx.com/53miner53/FighterU1

Cool, but can we *maybe* come up with a less default naming scheme?

Very :D

Also, @exbyde, I was checking out the DN-65, and I noticed that it is roughly equal in terms of maneuverability when compared to my Lancer. The only thing is that it seems to be a lot more aggressive. Rotation rate is a bit lower for my Lancer, but it turns faster and can recover from spins more quickly than the DN-65. As things are, I'm pretty happy with the Lancer - it wasn't built specifically for this competition anyways, lol - but I'd like to modify it slightly to make it more aggressive in combat. I feel like it's not taking advantage of it's potential.

So......are there any AI settings I should edit? I edited the max G, but I'm clueless as to what all the other settings such as steer damping, max aoa, etc, mean.

Help? (I'm not just asking exbyde, I mean everyone :D)

No clue, sorry

I think I've worked around all the serious bugs encountered with this one so far. :D

I'm going to quote the doctor at you :) :

Take a look at our BDPedia (KSPedia) in game for info on AI settings

I haven't put pitchKI in yet but it is a PID controller that will help stabilize your craft if it is floppy while flying ... each craft will respond differently to this setting

Pro Tip - set pitchKI to zero as a starting point and test at different speeds ... if your pitch keps wobbling then adjust the pitchKI to compensate for the wobble

Sorry, been very busy. I don't think I will have a lot of time to devote to this thread for a while. So, I was wondering if @exbyde would like to have ownership of this thread, seeing as I will not have time to devote to this for the foreseeable future.

Are you sure you are willing to give me...

Nah, sure i can do that

@exbyde How do you always manage to have the perfect meme (or whatever you would call this)? Anyway, time to summon the mods. Is a transfer of ownership possible?

Right, so to start things off with a bang

Right, so for tonight's main event, we continue testing the DN-65 against the rank aircraft. Tonights battle will be @Abraxis's DN-65 against @l0kki's Wunderwaffle. Its a battle of speed versus maneuverability, with the Wunderwaffle having lots of engines and the DN-65 having lots of wing.

Lets say the Wunderwaffle's speed isn't much help. The DN-65 is a very agile fighter, and on top of that, its single-missile volleys appear to be just enough to keep the lead sled Wunderwaffle on its toes, helping it secure a #4 spot on the roster.

Next, we have @NotAnAimbot's Novi fighter, up against @Abraxis's DN-65. The Novi is Notanaimbot's thesis work on single-engine design, and as such, has aged well. Its sleek design doesn't leave much of a radar crosssection, with no fighters really able to catch a radar lock before the Novi catches an infrared lock, though its armament has proved problematic in the past.  The DN-65 has proven to be a maneuverable design, but it definitely has a big heat signature. But will this keep the DN-65 from victory?

As much as i've wanted to put the novi down in the past over its low thrust to weight ratio, its thin radar profile and jamming system proves lethal to a wide array of fighters that use AMRAAMS as an initial missile volley. In this case, the Novis were able to gain an infrared lock on the DN-65s long before the DN-65s could gain radar lock, giving them an initial chance to rout the dn-65s and get on their tail.

HOHOHO! MERRY CHRISTMAS MOTHA-

*AHEM*-i mean AEROSPACE ENGINEERS
also happy hannukah, quanzah, selfie day, or other holiday whose name i have probably butchered already. i think scientologists celebrate something this time of year ,or ask for more money with crayon drawings?

He's made his list, and checked his weapons twice. Sorry to say, all of you are naughty, not nice

(you know what you did)

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen? Yeah, they're all packing heat this year. Especially santa and his sleigh. And Rudolph, with his nose so bright? he'll burn down your plane tonight (with lasers). So tonight, for a special battle, we have our top five aircraft, which are: @l0kki's Wunderwaffle AUSF I2, @Abraxis DN-65, @NotAnAimbot's Novi fighter, @drtricky's Cooler Ranch Dorito, and my Mini Val fighter. Due to the conflict of interest that is my craft, we're including @MrChumley's ReSoup. These six fighters are being tasked with defending the KSC from santa clause and his reindeer, all armed to the teeth with missiles, vulcan turrets, and lasers. Can our best fighters defend against a less-than jolly old Saint Nicholas? SPECIAL RULES: there is ONE battle. There is unlimited electricity. ALL OTHER RULES ARE NULL AND VOID FOR THIS BATTLE. especially the turrets, lasers and op weapons one.

This will be the only battle i upload today, and we will resume more uploads soon. With this in mind:
Merry Christmas to ALL and to all a good night!

special thanks to @SuicidalInsanity for providing our festive entertainment. Great job!

That battle kind of makes me think of the Avengers/Justice league :D

You know, a group of remarkable planes united against.........Santa....

I wouldnt say united. Novi shot down the dorito.

Oh

Well....

Novi shoots down one of its own one in every two or three battles. Novi's all-sidewinder compliment locks on anything hot. And considering all friendly aircraft had 2-4 engines and accelerated faster than the novi...

"Santa Claus, you stand accused of Crimes against Humanity, how do you plead?"

Also, missed opportunity to have the match take place at Santa's death fortress on Neptune the North Pole.
Pity Rudolph, with his laser so bright, didn't melt any planes that night, but I'm not surprised at the final result; the current roster consists of craft that are very good at what they do.
