As always, the Hype Train thread is the place for over-enthusiasm at the expense of realism or the boundaries of human thought. Within these railway carriages, is contained all of the hype and wreckless enthusiasm which we all know and love. Don't spread this outside the coaches.

Kerbal Space Program's first expansion pack is nearly upon us, and by March 13th it will be here.

The main feature is the Mission Builder, which will allow users to build custom missions in an editor. There's also many rocket parts replicating Space Race-era American and Soviet rockets and spacecrafts.

Nah it's good we're going to get onto the Hype Mainline, a railroad with thousands of tracks all bundled up in five dimensional space and two dimensional time. Since 1.4 and Making History would both be going to the same destination, we'd just couple the 1.4 coaches onto the MH coaches.

I'm sure people will design "campaigns" of some sort but it's sort of a bummer to me that each mission is self-contained. Still, will buy the expansion right away and am anxious to see what kinds of things people will come up.

Looking forward to "History!"  There are some parts in there I'm really eager to use, and I'm getting more curious about the Mission Builder.   :cool: 

If I had my druthers, it'd be out in time for Cosmonautics Day/Yuri's Night, but I'll still take it after that.   

 

(additional note...  the Great Lakes Science Center (Cleveland) is celebrating Yuri's Night...  in May.  What's up with that??)

Having not seen these parts packs before, I'm looking forward to the DLC.

Being a Clevelander myself, I should really get out there for Yuri's night....

Okay, why isn't it March 13 yet?  :huh:   It should be March 13 by now...

I'm really looking forward to fiddling with the Kerbalized historical-inspired parts, especially the Soviet/Russian ones.  The shapes of stock KSP are a bit tilted toward the American (and, to some extent, the European) programs; the prevalence of spheres and hemispheres in Soviet and Russian designs have been a challenge to reproduce or simulate.

One could argue, I suppose, that it will only matter as to the appearance of the machine, rather than its performance or capability-- but, as I like to say, I do like to see a good-looking rocket.  Part of the fun of this for me is building something and then admiring it as it (finally) flies...   :cool:
