Ric Ocasek of The Cars died yesterday. One of my favorite bands in the 80s. Can't believe he was 75.

Ah, you beat me to it. Heard about it on the news last night, kept meaning to post about it here. And yeah, 75?!? Wow.

I’m sure he’d want everyone to let the good times roll...

E: Update: cause-of-death was heart disease. Apparently he had a heart procedure recently, and was recovering when he was found unresponsive in his apartment

Just learnt it, but... Sigmund Jähn died yesterday. Originally a MiG-21 pilot in the Luftstreitkräfte, he became the first German to go in space, reaching and living aboard Salyut 6 in 1978.

I still have his 1/72 MiG-21 Revell model to build one day ;.;

The first spacewalk, and one of the five to realise the first international spaceflight, he was the one I was the most interested about in the Soviet space program.

 I took a shot of his plate in Titusville this year:

The book The Two sides of the Moon about the growing friendship of Alexei Leonov and an initially wary David Scott gives a brilliant insight into what a pleasant, civilised person Alexei Leonov was.

R.I.P. the first human to walk in space.
