What would extraterrestrial cities be called?

Ummm... Cities? :sticktongue:

By whom? Humans? Kerbals? Unknown extraterrestrials that created them? Any particular planet/system in mind?

I assume if its newly discovered by humans, we would name them similarly how we name our terrestrial ones. Who discovered it, nearby landmarks, interesting features, etcetera.

Unless we communicate somehow with them, in which case I assume we would use the names they have chosen (if possible).

Bugolopolis?

No that's the cubinator family insect farm within the extraplanetary city. Get your interplanetary roach tortillas here!

First, what is a "city"?
Second, where is it?  What size?

Is it a small thing, orbiting a planet?  It's a station.

Is it a handful of scientists on Mars?  It's an outpost.

Is it a self-sufficient settlement on the moon?  It's a colony.

Is it the single entity that most civilizations refer to as the example that all human settlements should aspire to?  It's "Byzantium", Constantinople", "Istanbul", or multiple other names depending on where and when you are.

For the uninitiated alien.... maybe "nerve centers" for the "cells" that follows an orderly pattern that follow largely geometric layouts in and out of these "nerve centers".

Maybe they are like Zerg and there are no cities per se, just vast collections of central hives and colonies made purely from animal cells that actually lives, eats, and breathes?

Minimum population requirement of 25,000 for new cities; ex- isting cities have a minimum population requirement of 5,000. Cities must be at least 4 square miles in area, have a minimum population density of 1,000 people per square mile, and an assessed property valuation of $2,500 per capita

Taking the above example, and the definition, a Lunar City would have a population density of 1,000+ people per square mile, be at least 4 square miles in area, and have at least 25,000 inhabitants.

I don’t know what capita is, and what it means, but I do know that the city needs to make money.
