Linbol System Rebirth is a new mod designed in the larger JNSQ (1/4 IRL Scale) size that aims to swap the Kerbol System to an unfamilliar yet remarkably similar planetary system to explore, with 21 new bodies to visit, and a lot more to come. The mod is a suitable challenge for seasoned players and yet there are patches and tips to make the planetary system more enjoyable for newcomers. A lot of players may come here from JNSQ, so this pack feels halfway between JNSQ and RSS, presenting much larger worlds with more realistic ascent trajectories and yet not making it too difficult to launch payloads in the super-low-twr engines and overly heavy LF-OX fuel tanks that stock provides.

- Explore 4 new stars in two pairs of binaries, with the main one consisting of a 1.2 sun mass and a 0.3 sun mass star (Aa+Ab) and the secondary consisting of a 0.7+0.5 sun mass star (Ba+Bb). Classes are F7V, M3V, K5V and DA3.5 respectively, the last star is a super-dense, 73500g white dwarf!

- 5 new gas planets to explore, two of which are in one system, with masses ranging from 4 to 600 Kerbin masses and colors from yellow-brown to dark blue. Many moons orbit these gas planets for probes to explore

 - Lots of planets/moons with atmospheres to land on and sample. Almost every body is unique from one another.

-  Hazardous bodies with solid surfaces for those that haven't had enough of a challenge - there are 3 of them, and one is a super-earth 16 times heavier than Kerbin.

 - Scatterer+Stock Scale Rescale configs downloaded separately

- All bodies and atmospheres are realistic with much planning involved.

- 8k textures to make bodies have high detail. Each pixel is about 4km^2 on kerbin with the 2k textures while on Revan (the homeworld) there are 8k textures that give a 2.2km^2 pixel.

Homeworld

Spoiler

The homeworld is a kerbin-like super-earth, although barely one - at 2.156 kerbin masses. It's name is Revan and it has 3 moons, one of which has an atmosphere, and the innermost takes barely a day to orbit Revan.

Revan vs Kerbin (JNSQ) Stats:

Radius: 2000km | 1600km

Gravity: 1.38g | 1.00g

Mass: 2156 mK | 1000mK (mK=milikerbins)

ASL Pressure: 2.90 ATM | 1.00 ATM

Atm Height: 68km | 80km

Low Orbit Velocity: 5000m/s | 3800m/s

Delta V to Orbit: 7200m/s | 5200m/s

Homeworld KSC: Equator, 68.4E.

The System (this is an essay I swear)

Spoiler

Linbol-A

F7V main sequence + M3V main sequence binary, extremely tight orbit

Inner system

Spoiler

Planned Bodies:

First Digit - System number (1 for Linbol A)

Digit 2/3 - Planet # - trojans count

Digit 4/5 - Moon # - binaries count

Last Digit - Sub-moon #

Color is based on the most similar JNSQ body to it:

Jool - gas giant

Lindor - ice giant

Kerbin - habitable planet equal/larger than kerbin

Laythe - habitable planet smaller than kerbin

Duna - Atmospheric desert planet smaller than kerbin

Eve - Super-earth that is not habitable

Nara - Mega Earth (>10 Earth mass)

Tylo - Planet/moon larger than Duna and with <0.04atm

Mun - Strictly a moon between 300 and 800km

Moho - A planet hotter than kerbin with <0.04 atm smaller than duna

Eeloo - Similar criteria to moho but colder than Kerbin

Dres - Dwarf planet.

Minmus - moon smaller than 300km

Ocean World - Planet/moon with oceans and doesn't fit into any other criteria

WIP 101000 - Heat (700km)

A tidally locked scorched world with treacherous terrain but a gold mine of science.

WIP 102000 (1300km)

A large, tidally locked desert world difficult to land on owing to a lack of atmosphere.

103000  - Windswept (1550km)

A hot desert world with a thin atmosphere. Very bland for now, will be revamped. With scatterer looks OK.

104000 - Vera (1650km)

A tropical water world with continents and rings! Relatively warm, slightly larger but also less dense and having a less dense atmosphere than Kerbin. Has polar ice caps almost 20km high. (currently the best looking body)

105000 - Revan (2000km)

A cold, massive continental world with a polar ocean and high mountain ranges. Contains the KSC. A challenge to land on. Will be revamped to look better.

105010 (150km)

A small cratered inner moon.

105020 (240km)

A moon in an eccentric (slightly) and slightly inclined orbit around Revan, with canyons and plateaus.

105030 - Canyon (600km)

Now this is the real canyon planet! The canyons are for now, not very prominent.

106000 (3700km)

A huge, brown world with a hint of purple. It boasts mountain ranges over 30000 meters high, and a dense atmosphere of 33 Atm. With a low orbit velocity of 10000m/s, landing must either take place on the highlands, where it is steep, or on the lowlands, where propellers are needed to ascent. The delta-V is 15000m/s and is easily the hardest body that I know off to be landed on, with second place going to alternis Tylo, which is much smaller (and has a smaller scale), but has slightly higher gravity and nearly no atmosphere.

106020 (1100km)

A very mountainous black world with ice and volcanoes. Largest moon of a terrestrial planet.

107000 (330km)

A large asteroid with cryovolcanism due to a previous impact, innermost planet to do so. Trailing trojan of 106000, but semi-unstable, resulting in impacts.

108000 - Perbi (2640km)

A huge super-earth with 17Atm pressure and oxygen. Terrain is flat but can reach extreme heights in continents. By the way, the reason why 107000's orbit is semi-unstable is because 106000 and Perbi's orbits almost intersect. Due to the close gravitational encounters, the lighter Perbi eventually was flung into and eccentric and inclined orbit making it an epic challenge for seasoned mission planners. The system became more stable afterward.

Outer System

Spoiler

109000 (9600km)

A white gas giant with water clouds, second smallest of the five giants

109010 (4400km)

A large hycean planet made out of water and ice. 10ATM of pressure. Hydrogenated atmosphere over 500km high and does not have solid surface.

109030 - Neo (1050km)

A large but somewhat distant moon with pressurised CO2 oceans

110000 - Wesboun (19400km)

The largest gas giant, brown and yellow bands. Recolored and reused name from original linbol.

110060 (4100km)

A small ice giant.

110070 (2840km)

A large and difficult super-earth to land on, inspired and based off Catullus, GPP, but with a different feel. Will have lakes of liquid... (what can form a liquid here?)

111000 (13400km)

A large and dense gas giant.

111010 - Heyu (1440km)

A tidally heated carbonaceous moon with oceans very close to the parent and steep cliffs dropping into the oceans. Lower regions are dark grey or blue, higher regions are white.

1110- something (760km)

A moon with methane lakes. (this is done to diversify the planet's oceans, with 4 water oceans, 1 methane, 1 CO2 and 1 H2 maybe 1 nitrogen?

112000 (8600km)

The third largest gas planet, this one a dense ice giant.

112010 (1700km)

A close-orbiting moon with subsurface oceans.

WIP 113000 (700km)

A small dwarf planet with a thick atmosphere.

WIP 114000 (1760km)

A ice world with huge spires.

WIP 115000 (4600km)

Huge super-earth. Lighter and easier than 106000, with hydrogen oceans and atmosphere.

Why are there missing moons and planets?

Because I originally made a system layout. These are the confirmed ones. The others will change along the way.

Why are so many bodies not named?

I am bad at names.

Mod Compatibility/Requirements

Spoiler

Requirements

Kopernicus (comes with its dependencies)

Module Manager

Kopernicus Expansion: Whole bundle

Texture Replacer, for WIP custom skybox.

Compatibility

EVE Compatibility is full and bundled with LSR with 16K cloud layers for Revan (3 of them!), Vera, Neo, Heyu and Perbi.

Scatterer compatibility is separate to prevent over-updating LSR, with slight bugs as it is still WIP.

Waterfall and most other visual mods: good to go. As a rule of thumb, any non-body-specific visual mod should work fine.

Antenna mods for the outer system (JX2) may be needed.

Conflicts

EVERY OTHER PLANET PACK MOD.

But especially: Any system replacer mod, or any mod that adds a body with the same name as an LSR body.

Kerbal constructs and lots of other Kerbin-related mods are NOT supported.

USE THE LATEST RELEASE FOR EVERY MOD. SAVES THAT CONTAIN UNSUPPORTED, OUTDATED OR UNDOCUMENTED MODS WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED.

Fun facts and tips

Spoiler

106000 and Perbi can get very close and it could be possible to resolve 106000 from Perbi if the glare is covered up well and there is no atmospheric scatterring as the huge, slim crescent subtends 1'.

If Explodium Breathing Engines were compatible, 106000, 106030 and Neo would all have methane atmospheres and 106000 would also have a hydrogen atmosphere together with 110070 and 115000.

Only one of the five gas giants exceeds Jool's radius (if it were scaled up to this pack's size), although all exceed its very low density and two out of five exceed its mass, which is interesting since Jool is supposed to be a huge, massive gas giants. 111000, for example, is smaller than JNSQ jool but with twice its mass, and 112000 is slightly larger than Lindor from JNSQ but with 2.5x its mass.

Many of the inner moons of gas giants and the larger terrestrial planets orbit pretty close, and combined with the higher masses than seen in JNSQ, delta-v requirements are higher, but still manageable. Heyu to the next planned moon out (2x further away), just the orbit transfer, is 2500m/s.

For a first interplanetary launch I would recommend an inner planet mission to either a Vera lander or a lander on 106030 (one way). After that, powered landings on Windswept and return from Vera (the easiest planet to do so by far) as well as missions to the outer planets are recommended. Remember that while the inner system has about 8 good bodies, the outer has almost 20! Just that most haven't been added yet... The outer system is where all the good stuff lies, and this whole mod is about changing the status of large moons to "planets that happened to orbit another larger planet".

FAQ

Spoiler

Why does the mod have so much bugs?

Because I didn't have time to playtest!

Will you make this compatible with JNSQ?

NO.

Why is this mod so hard?

Because it's made like that. It's among the harder mods, (easier than RSS), and one of the bodies - 106000 - is possibly the hardest body ever made (IMO), even harder than Alternis Tylo.

Why are all the bodies so large?

Because the mod is scaled to 1/4 IRL scale.

Why is this mod so data heavy especially on install?

The planets are larger, while surface features aren’t all that larger at the scale. Thus, 8192x4096 textures are used to prevent the mountains from looking bad.

Also, the clouds are high-quality.

Why is this mod so bad?

It's my first planet pack, which it's why it’s somewhat generic for me to get a feel of it. (Linbol System does not count since some of the bodies do not work).

Kopernicus was unable to load the custom planetary system due to an exception in the loading process. Loading your saved game is NOT recommended, because the missing planets could corrupt it and delete your progress. Please contact the planet pack author or the Kopernicus team about the issue and send them a valid bug report, including your KSP.log, your ModuleManager.ConfigCache file and the folder Logs/Kopernicus/ from your KSP root directory.

I’m quitting KSP. Thanks for all the support, guys

Add-ons - Enhance Your Experience!

LSR Utilities (Watermel00n)

Spoiler

@Watermel00n (co-developer of original Linbol) is planning on making custom plugins for LSR, which will add [REDACTED] and [REDACTED].

Watermel00n also plans on making a fork of LSR, sacrificing realism for absurdness (definitely not something he is new to) and turn Perbi, Heyu and Vera into a - you’ll see.

LSR Rescale (Stock scale)

Spoiler

https://spacedock.info/mod/3460/LSR Rescale - Stock Scale

This is the first add-on to be released, although WIP. There are no other dependencies.

Known caveats:

There is no atmosphere rescale implemented yet.

Sun light curves may be weird.

Homeworld Swap (WIP)

For Noobs For those who want to experience the mod without dying

Spoiler

(WIP) LSR is planning to make a Vera Homeworld swap, which swaps the cold, crushing (in terms of temperature and pressure) and beach-less world for a much less massive, tropical, more breathable earth-like planet complete with RINGS! (You probably would have seen the images of it by now). Stay at the mid-latitudes to not get sunburned and to enjoy a mesmerising view of the rings!

LSR Lore

Spoiler

WIP

Game progression (science mode)

Spoiler

Reaching orbit requires a fairly large rocket on science mode with multiple stages, and the first rocket into orbit will likely be unmanned even in normal science mode (stock). From there on, exploring the moons of Revan will be of interest.

105010 is the first landing you will ever make. Just to get a feel of LSR, of course, since this pack isn't intended for beginners and would assume you already landed on Mun/Minmus or any other body.

105020 is like that, but with additional challenges such as the inclination, eccentricity, longer travel times and larger mass.

Canyon is an atmospheric moon which will be new since I assume that you came here from JNSQ. The prospect of an atmospheric moon in Revan orbit will be interesting, and provide an easy atmospheric target that rewards lots of science.

Going interplanetary is more of a challenge, since the planets tend to be large or be inside deep gravity wells (Heat). That is where the moons come in. There are a bunch (a lot) of small moons that are science-poor but serve as refueling stops, and some more-science heavy moons that are deep in the gravity well of planets. Then there are large, atmospheric moons which typically don't have too much more g than Canyon although some like Neo and Heyu have dense atmospheres and some outer moons can be quite large. One exception is 106030 which has 0.6g and is a challenge as though 106000 wasn't hard enough, or as a challenge to get a fraction of the glory of 106000.

i made a 922 byte LSR rescale to stock scale which should have taken one second to upload to spacedock, but halfway through spacedock failed and returned back rare exceptions, forcing a delay of the upload of the rescale. spacedock is no longer online and will probably stay that way for a very long time. sorry.

by very long time i mean a few days which will disrupt the release of 1.1

edit: it went online in a few minutes.

edit: lol i forgor to rescale perbi

Why don't you just publish a hot fix

now with scatterer

These maps and atmospheres look good, and the system layout seems quite interesting so far! I only noticed a couple things at first:

  • Canyon, Heyu, and 106000 don't have their Scatterer atmospheres show up in game. This seems to be because Canyon isn't in the planetsList, Canyon's and Heyu's Scatterer configs have names of Duna and Eve respectively, and 106000 doesn't have a folder at all. Is the version you just uploaded to Spacedock a test version?
  • Perbi and Heyu have liquid water oceans but surface temperatures well below 273 K. It's possible to manually adjust specific parts of the temperature-pressure curve in OhioBob's atmosphere calculator to add corrections for things like tidal heating, so would it be helpful to raise the temperatures of those atmospheres just near the surface?

Point 1 has been fixed. Yes it was a test version, and i’m currently bugfixing the new version

Point 2: this is actually the first time this has been brought up!

Perbi has a temperature of about 280K at sea level due to its 17Atm pressure and almost 0.5atm CO2 partial pressures and it shows up as ~283 on OhioBob’s atmosphere calculator.

Heyu has a sea temperature of 300K which means even at the poles, liquid water exists. However, due to the way water… works, the higher altitudes which have carbon and ice deposits are very cold so idk if the high atmosphere density is a big problem, but I might publish a fix soon.

oh yes and also delete the kerbin stock config before you start!

This helps with the NullReferenceExceotions that clog up ksp.log, but the game still loads otherwise.

Also you might want to replace revan’s pqs material with that of GPP tellumo, as this is my first texture and it looks… not great.

heyu is obnoxiously (is that the word) blue and 110070 is basically a purple coloured eve,

but both have been made more desaturated.

Heyu looks like it was inside Vera’s orbit and was steamed even though it orbits 10 times further away

Interesting! Those temperatures seem perfectly reasonable to me given their conditions; I was asking because the 1.1.1 download has atmospheric mean surface temperatures of 231 K for Perbi and 109 K for Heyu.
