BA-Forums
Hey guys, I decided to draw bluey characters on Mars. Check it out! Now, about 48 hours later, I am currently expanding on that and decided to start a worldbuilding/story/project thingy. I have a lot to do, but I have came up with a basic layout of how this would work. The name of the international crewed Mars program is Phoenix. I am gonna need some help with sciencey bits and things like that. You guys got any ideas? I’ll post again soon for more details.
BA-Forums
Part 1: Pre-Staging “Mars has been flown by, orbited, smacked into, radar examined, and rocketed onto, as well as bounced upon, rolled over, shoveled, drilled into, baked and even blasted. Still to come: Mars being stepped on.” - Buzz Aldrin Pre-Staging for Phoenix 1 (The first crewed mission to Mars) consists of 10 unmanned missions, to help prepare the landing site for crews: Habitat: The Hab is the Phoenix 1 crew's home on the Red Planet. More Habs will land as the base camp expands. Solar Panels: These will land with the Hab, and will be deployed by astronauts on arrival. Nuclear Reactor: A fission reactor that is landed and buried 10 feet under the ground, about 3 kilometers away from the Hab. MOXIE/WAVAR: An oxygenator and water generator, which will land with the Hab, and will be set up by astronauts on arrival. Communication Systems: A set of large comms dishes and radios. These will land with the Hab and deployed autonomously. Rovers: Two crewed rovers and four multi-purpose uncrewed rovers will land at the base. These will deploy autonomously. Consumable Supplies (3x): Items such as food, water, and things that the crew will use up. these will land half a kilometer from the base, in the MDAV landing zone. Hab Interior Equipment: Items such as flooring, walls, bunks, science experiments, EVA suit parts, and other equipment. This will land in an MDV-C (Mars Descent Vehicle, Cargo) in the MDAV landing zone, and be brought to the Hab set up by astronauts on arrival. To be continued... I drew it on a physical sketchbook and then "rendered" it in Procreate, a digital art program available on iPad. I do this for all of my drawings. For color hexes and specific colors, I used actual photos of Mars and frames from The Martian.

BA-Forums
Crew Members: Socks Heeler, Mission Specialist. Socks is an Australian mechanical engineer and botanist who hails from Brisbane. She is the first Australian astronaut to set foot on the Red Planet.
Iapetus7342
So this is an AU of Bluey that takes place on Mars? Cool!

It’s kinda that, more of a branch off of the original series. SPOILERS FOR THE LATEST EPISODE AHEAD! Spoiler It’s set in the same time period that the flash forward in the episode Surprise is in. That flash forward shows the same characters in the series but older. It’s very brief, but it gives us LOTS of opportunities. One of said opportunities is whether they get to Mars or not, and they obviously do. I chose to put the character Socks Heeler, who is basically a little kid in the show, in the crew because I want to show what certain characters are doing during the flash-forward. Also, it would be funny, and I get to practice creating Martian landscapes. my main inspirations for this first materialized when I was sick a month ago. The series is mainly inspired by The Martian (both the book and the movie), a docuseries/tv show from National Geographic called Mars, books on human spaceflight and Mars, and of course, Bluey. im open for any suggestions on this, by the way, so feel free to give me any ideas! (un?)surprisingly, I haven’t gained as much traction on the bluey subreddit than here. Maybe I should draw this next…

Maybe I should draw this next… To be fair, most of the people who watch Bluey and the show’s prime audience is children. I think man’s (or in this case canine’s) conquest of the red planet flies quite far over their head.

BA-Forums
I JUST FOUND OUT WHAT THE SABATIER REACTION IS ITS FUEL TIME BABY
BA-Forums
Okay. Let me explain. The sabatier reaction produces methane and water from a reaction of carbon dioxide and hydrogen at elevated temperatures of about 300-400 C, with a pressure of about 3 mpa around a nickel catalyst. this reaction is used on the life support systems on the ISS, specifically for making oxygen. It can also produce fuel on mars. the problem with the MDAV is that it would be optimal to have the entire vehicle launch off of mars. Using the sabatier reaction would be much more efficient, safer, and cheaper than importing fuel. It will refuel the MDAV while the crew stays there and does their work. we can also use it to make water and oxygen for the Hab. The oxygen generator and water generator need to be in an a closed system to prevent this: anyways that’s my ramble for today, I’m gonna go work on my miniatures. BA-Forums
After a bit of time not drawing, I have returned. Don’t ask about the pigeons that got melted to make this communications uplink work. this is a rough sketch so there are editing notes on it! Kimera Industries
The HAB (and other equipment, too) should come in multiple landings, both for redundancy and so it can be bigger.
BA-Forums
I did clarify this somewhere but I don’t think I posted it lol 5 hours ago, Kimera Industries said: The HAB (and other equipment, too) should come in multiple landings, both for redundancy and so it can be bigger. Vin__
really interesting! I'm looking forward to it! As an Australian, I really love the concept of the bluey cartoon adapted as a space exploration worldbuilding project.
