Subforum Order poll

Recommended Posts

Will the forum pages be rearranged soon as per the poll linked below? A choice to move KSP1 higher on the page was the overwhelming winner. I would have asked in that thread but it's locked.

But why lock the thread? Seems like it was done because there were off topic posts. That doesn't seem like grounds to lock a thread, just delete/moderate the posts and let discussion continue.

If its because none of you have the access to actually perform the task then that's a different topic altogether, and, as such, just be open about it and say something like, "Sorry guys, none of the moderators have access to the back end IPB Admin CP and therefore we do not have the capability to re-order the forums." At least then the community knows where they stand.

At the moment it comes across as a snap judgement and gagging people from being able to discuss the pros and cons of the suggested actions from the poll results.

I know. I had to create this new thread solely because that other one was locked so I couldn't ask there. It just clutters the forum.

One of the most baffling aspects of moderation is noticing my own posts get deleted without notifying me. Did I break a rule? I'd like to know which rule so I can avoid making the same error again. Some recent moderation decisions seem heavy handed and arbitrary but I have no way to check what I wrote. If I didn't break a rule, why was my post deleted?

One possible explanation is to prevent people from keeping voting and commenting on that thread once the decision was taken.

That thread was about taking a decision, and any further activity after the decision is taken is... Well...  Pointless, and a potential source of (more) work for the moderation without any additional benefit.

It's clear the membership wants the change made. Once things settle down we will try to get it done. The original thread was turning into an argument and the issue had already been settled. Now let's all move on, please.

@Vanamonde Adding a thought about website reorganization.

Since KSP1 development ended years ago, the subforums "KSP1 The Daily Kerbal" and "KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion" should be moved to the bottom of the page or buried in some other manner. Keep the contents for archival purposes but don't allow new posts.

Guys, you've no doubt noticed that the forum has been going offline a lot. I'm hearing rumors that it's due to an onslaught of bots on the internet in general. But whatever the cause is it's preventing us from re-ordering the subs. I tried some preliminary efforts yesterday and kept getting closed out. We haven't forgotten and will do it when we can, but I'd rather not make an attempt and break something in the process.

IMHO this was unavoidable, once evidences pinpointed that the franchise is headless and no further development is going to happen - there's a lot of invaluable historical content here and people are afraid of loosing it.

Perhaps allowing the Web Archive to, well, archive the Forums contents (and then regularly synchronizing the contents on it) would alleviate the problem? Or, perhaps better yet, export the site into a static but functional website and let Web Archive archive the statics, and then you guys would reexport it regularly - this would allow you to have some control about what is going to Archive.

You know, once people realizes that, if the worst happens, the content will be still available they will not feel the need to salvage things themselves. This will, at very best, help to keep heads cooler as that pesky 502 Bad Gateways will not happen all the time anymore, what help to worse the problem by feeding back the fears that triggered them - and we get a vicious self sustained cycle.

Please consider discussing the matter with the current site's owner.

  • 2 weeks later...

Since the poll topic about reorganizing the forums has been closed, I'm starting this topic for us to voice additional requests.

Expanding the topic of subforum reordering to include other forms of change, as well (e.g. complete removal of elements). No expectations implied or assumed, but here's hoping some of our requests are within the volunteer mods' purview!

My request: get rid of the KSP2 banner at the top of the home page.

Overlapping threads have been merged.

We do have a laundry list of things planned out, and we’ve been making gradual changes, some visible, some not.

There’s a real danger with these 502/503 issues, though.  If a change only gets partially implemented, things could get ugly real fast.    So we’re going with baby steps to maintain stability.

We’ve seen the poll, we all have, and we hear ya.   And that’s the general gist of what our plans are.    And yeah, we’d love to hear more suggestions.

On our list, we would like to solicit suggestions on what to replace it with?   We have some ideas and what not, but outside suggestions are always welcome.

I'd love to see a rotating visual from the TOTM thread... would be fun to open the page to new eye candy. Might not be possible with this forum software, but maybe?

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
