I and @Sequinox have been working hard on our new mod! :D

Here is a sneak peak at two new engines that we are working on:

  • First one: A heavy 2.5m heavy lift lower stage engine
  • Second one: A 1.25m lower stage lifter engine

Suggest more stuff at our thread for what to add next. Happy Flying! :D

I hit critical mod mass and now CTD on every third thing I try to do. ;.;

Looks like it's time for a new Stock career! Keep it pure!

Just need to add back KER. Can't play without that. And KAS. KIS. USI catalogue...procedural wings...chatterer...SCANSat...Infernal Robotics...and a couple dozen other necessities...

When's 1.1 again? :P

Today I made a pathfinder style rover that lands on Duna with the assistance of a chute, retro rockets and a winch/cable assembly.

The chute deploys, slowing the rover down to 7m/s, then the winch extends the cable. Once the cable is extended and the rover is slung low down, the retro rockets activate just before touchdown to bring the speed down to 2m/s. Once the rover is on the ground, the winch cable detachs and the retro rocket/chute assembly flies off a good distance away.

*sigh* I attempted to install RSS. I'd had this triumphant post planned out. I tried multiple times to get the mod to work, failed, saw what I was doing wrong. I fixed the error, started KSP. Something popped up about Module Manager. Seemed promising. The thread for RSS said it'd take about 10-15 minutes to load the first time. I checked back 2 hours later, it still hadn't loaded.

Mods hate me :(

He made it back safely. Not content to simply shut down on the runway and make the ground crew come out to get him he taxied up to the hangar and got out himself.

I prototyped a craft in my head during a discussion on these forums and fired up KSP tonight just to see how it worked.  Did pretty well, I think.  I could have done the entire thing on RCS alone considering it has damn near 1.3km/s in the tanks, but the whole point was to use a PAM-analogue.

Today I experimented with Prop planes again... I don't know where I got the Bear engine (probably from SXT, where I got the Ke-11 and most likely the Orion cockpit I used on this plane).
So I made a design that I thought used LFO to work (good engine for any atmospheric world, even without oxygen)... turns out the Bear does not use Oxidizer at all...
I could've asked the KSC engineer to modify the part for mission spec (edit the part via notepad :D ), but I decided to keep it as is and refit the plane a bit. 

On test flights, Jeb and Valentina reported that the controls where super jerky, and the plane would vibrate when on autopilot...
So I did a bit of research and development (googled) and found the jackpot, a clear picture of what I was looking for :

We did a quick recap before leaving : 
 - Ladders works on switch 5 and retracts the dual antennas while opening cargo bay,
 - Engine reverser/shutdown on switches 1 and 2,
 - Scientists activate his research project on switch 7,
 - And enginners operate the drill via switches 9 and 10 !

 

Okay, we finally departed on an expedition...

Successfully landed on the water ! ... My such bounciness, some parts must not be water rated at all.  What's that Bob?  No get out because that calls the Kraken and everything blows-up ?  sheesh... Okay no group pictures.
* everyone gives a long sigh of relief learning that *  Hey, that's the second time you guys don't want to take pictures on alien worlds, what gives!?   *Lots of whistling and coughing*  Fine fine, no Kraken tonight.
So we launched a flare with a camera attached to it to give us a top-down view of the plane and the Sagen Sea.

Yeah First the plane keeps bouncing and the speed never reaches zero... anybody remember how the old intakes used to bounce as well in earlier version ?

Second, this Orion (plane) cockpit has the same problems than the stock 1,25m in-line passenger modules... try EVA a Kerbal and sometimes they spawn inside a part, or partially stuck in them... BOOM ! Kraken-strike.
I guess whenever I do a Revision of this plane, I'll have to change the cockpit to a regular Mk1_2 capsule or something else 2,5m that does not glitch !

for the last days i've been working on some idea that i had following my success with this lifter on eve and its "prototype"i decided to do go to tekto,one of the moon's of sarnus,and it was the last moon that my kerbals haven't visited yet in the sarnus system.

i was derping with space planes of my own and build something that i really like,tested it around kerbin,the results were good,so i took this bird to tekto,and it got rover inside,for my tekto exploration :D

Fiddled around designing an improved Gemini-ish Kerbin-orbital workhorse capsule (Montu Mk IV) and an improved Apollo-ish munar exploration capsule (Horus Mk IV), both with their attendant service modules.

This campaign, I've left my landers in Minmus and Munar orbit and just carry more fuel to them to re-use them.  A lot more efficient than lugging new landers along for each mission... but I need to ensure there's enough fuel capacity in the service module to be an effective "tanker."

Learned a valuable lesson as I once again attempted to test my SSTA on Minmus. As I exited warp at Minmus SOI and noticed I had no control. Seems the solar panels were blocked by the body of the ship. Ordinarily that would be OK, except the stupid radiators draw power even though they are not needed. Did a Minmus flyby and headed back to Kerbin. I thought once in atmosphere I could regain control. Silly me. My plane skills are awful. Lost Bill and Jeb. Added a couple small batteries that will be turned off at launch - just in case.

There is always a mod - name one with a power switch for radiators. It ought to be a simple mm config file. 

EDIT: Found Radiator Toggle by Snark. Looks to be exactly what I need.

@elpollodiablo The mod is called Nebula Decals. Hasn't been updated since 0.25 but still works in 1.0+.

 

Having once again changed my mind and decided I want to finish my 1.0.2 save off and start a new one in 1.0.5 (with a mission reports diary and possibly a video series) I'm trying to make some progress toward achieving the goal I set for this save: land and return from everywhere in the stock system.

The Constant picked up Dottie from the Eve Ascent Vehicle and brought her and her science data to the Eve station to wait for the next return window.

The Arnold stopped at Base Coalwood on Minmus to refuel, mostly so it could restock the LKO fuel depot which it emptied on the way to the Mun.

Arnold then returned safely to Kerbin. Although the Mammoth-powered Spacebus 3H does work, it's inefficient and pretty ungainly. I'm looking at a smaller, more efficient 3H-B version which swaps the Mammoth for a Rhino and uses SRBs to get it off the pad; the prototype, Dorothy Ann, is under construction. (Hopefully I won't need too many more of these things because I'm running out of names.)

Phoebe departed Gilly on its way back to Kerbin. It's taking a very inefficient trajectory, but it will arrive months before Constant, which is stuck in low Eve orbit and has to wait for a proper window.

Starlet Alice delivered a four-Kerman crew to the ISRU cruiser Hornblower in LKO.

The Hornblower then burned out of LKO for Minmus to refuel itself for a planned expedition to Moho.
