What did you do in KSP1 today?

In the past few weeks I had done more usuall exploration stuff to get science. After the success of my Heavy Ion Probe program I had improved the design and sent out two more Heavy Ion Probes. One to low Sun area, that should return and one equipped with RTGs to go to Eeloo. Also my Joomber 1 encountered some glitchy behaviour. First, while departuring from Kerbin SOI, it simply halted and fell back down to Kerbin. I used much of the fuel on board, but managed to get it back on track to Jool, only to see a weird explosion this morning, when bits of the ship were ejected at ridiculous speeds far away:

<a href="http://www.imagehosting.cz/?v=screenyty.png"><img src="http://www.imagehosting.cz/thumbs/screenyty.png" border="0"></a>

So I had to send out another one (I have done so after the first glitch) as a replacement. But the main thing is the ARM update. Since long ago, my Kerbals dreamed about giant ships, but there was no use for them and also I didnt had enough knowledge to get anything "giant" into orbit. My largest lifter (the Uragan II), that I designed only few days before ARM, was able to put about 100tons into LKO. But with the first asteroids beginning to apear, I find an excuse for the giant ships and also the power of the new parts is simply ridiculous. In about 5minutes I created a lifter, that can get over 200tons into space. Dont know exact numbers yet, because the payload had to do a lot of burning to. So without any more texting around, I would like to present you the first ship of my Emperor class - President (the names are translated, original names are in Czech, just wanted to keep consistent :) ):

It has a fuel capacity of 13 500 liquid fuel and 16 500 oxidizer, powered by several RTGs to be independent of the Sun, 8 nuclear engines as main propulsion and one Skipper for extra power. It also has 2 small probes for the ship exploration. But they can be changed with any other modules. With these it has 4530 monopropellant and tons of RCS ports. There are also 3 advanced SAS modules. Maximum crew capacity in this configuration is 9 Kerbals, but I intend to use it with a crew of 3. I plan to make a total of 3 ships of this class. The main purpose is to redirect any asteroids, but it will also be used as a shuttle between my future stations at Mun, Minmus and I want to take it even interplanetary. So far its the biggest thing I have ever put in orbit in one piece. At this moment, the President has a mass of 183tons, while having 3/5 of fuel onboard. After some refueling and getting a crew to it, I will begin trial runs. But it can also fly on its own of course.

Well, because MechJeb2 was having problems installing I decided to play with the new NASA parts myself. The SAS seemed to be very stable and for the first time EVER I was able to launch, make a stable orbit, and adjust it a couple of time, without MechJeb2 helping me. I feel kind of good. I doubt I could dock right now, but it still feels nice to be able to put a rocket into orbit without the mod (and one that was a brand new design too - those NASA parts are powerful even if they do overheat).

There is still enough fuel to bring it down. I plan to try launching ships and docking with either of my two manned stations. I figure docking is kind of like EVA (which I am semi-okay at), so I just need to learn how to use the maneuver nodes. The colors truly mean nothing to me so I will have play with them a tad.

I would still prefer MechJeb2 on landing on airless bodies - I have horrible reaction time.

I built a new rocket for a Mun north pole visit. It's enroute, and I'll finish the flight tonight. It's the first time I've tried to visit one of the poles outside of Kerbin.

It's also one of my first serious attempts at leaving no debris behind. The initial SRB stage has sepratrons to drive them down faster. The second stage lift has 4 small SRBs attached facing backwards to drive that into a suborbital trajectory once decoupled. In addition, since I like things look somewhat aerodynamic, the tops of them each have detachable nosecones with sepratrons on them to fire them off into oblivion.

I probably should've skipped the LV-N in favor of a more powerful engine for the transfer burn to Mun. Oh well.

butted heads with a game breaking bug with no known fix that only a handful of other people have come across :(

(all nearby ships reacting to control inputs, makes docking impossible)

An idea for a workaround: Disable everything - RCS, torque, engines - on the target ship. The camera may make it awkward though.

Just updated KSP + mods cuz I haven't played in too long. Found out MechJeb2 and Docking Port Alignment Tool don't like each other at all. Reinstalled Romfarer's Lazer Docking Cam. Now let's colonize this star system, again :)

I landed on Dres. Now Eeloo and Bop are the only bodies I still haven't landed on!

Here's the probe Ned and its lander Caput in low Dres orbit.

Here's Caput right after detaching from Ned, preparing the descent towards the surface.

Caput standing safely on the surface. I didn't even need half of my fuel!

And here's Ned again, alone and still in orbit.

Fine tuned my K-29 Bomber for a KSP Facebook challenge: Fly to a river, drop a boat, land the plane, sail the boat to the ocean.

So far I've massaged the K-29 to 220 m/s with additional internal struts and 1000 units of fuel, all but 200 are on drop tanks.

Now to build a suitable boat and try to mount it inside the full length bomb bay. Ugh.

thanks for the suggestion cantab, no luck unfortunately.

same results, I even took the kerbals out so in theory the target ship shouldn't have any control

it's a strange bug

Fly a squadron of simple planes?

Today, I finally landed on Tylo (& returned home). Still haven't come back from Eve.
