Maybee because I'm using the texture compressor, but has anyone else noticed that the cloud textures can become very glitchy at distance? Flying around the mun, kerbin's skies were crazy.

What version of VE? Screenshots?

I tried the new version and its pretty good. At night and sunrise/sunset I think the clouds are a bit too bright. Also if there was a way to have the generation of the clouds a fade feature to it so there are not visible hexagons from orbit and it blends in more with the 2D clouds.

I finally gave the test release a shot and while I like the idea of it, it is a long way from aesthetically pleasing. To be more specific the volumetric clouds need to blend into the standard layered clouds better, especially when you are looking down on them. The dramatic difference removes the minds suspension of disbelief. The concept is solid and the performance hit was negligible, so it is certainly a great start. Keep up the good work rbray89.

This is planned. For now, I wanted to provide something that could be tested out. I have a shader improvement coming that should help the blending a lot.

I'm practically speechless rbray89! The transition in daytime is perfect. They only seemed a little too dark relative to the surrounding clouds once the sun starts to get low on the horizon. I'm sure you'll have this nailed though. It's been amazing watching your progress. After breaking through the cloud layer and seeing the tops of them, I can never go back to the old version :)

Very, very nice job on these! They still cause a significant FPS drop for me and in the end the game ran out of RAM. First time it's done that for me and I'm not using any memory reduction mods.

Yeah, I still have to do some profiling and optimization to make sure it will work well for everyone. You wouldn't happen to have machine specs would you? The mod shouldn't be too terribly strenuous on a machine, though it might tax integrated graphics cards.

Rbray89, I still have my previous problems with the disappearing clouds. I deleted useroverlays.cfg several times, and it fixes it when I launch the game - I see the default clouds, then, on the moment I exit my current game back to the main menu - the clouds disappear, even on the main menu itself.

Please tell me what information you need if you wish to look into it?

Debug log at the time of loading of the game?

Debug log at the time of loading of my save?

Debug log from the main menu after I leave my save?

Output.log?

Screenshots?

What? :huh: You are having issues with a machine of THOSE specs? My machine is much slower than yours, and I don't notice much of a difference! :) What is the frame-rate you are running at then with/without the clouds?

the KSP_Data/output_log.txt is the most verbose, so that would help the best. I can't imagine WHY it would do this. So after you delete the user config, launch the game it works, and fails if you go back to the main menu or exit entirely? Does it stay broken if you restart the game?

Yes, it happens just as you describe it.

And it stays broken when I restart the game, so each time I start it I have to do this...

Quick test:

Version 6-8 latest uses 2666MB RAM on the runway and FPS is mostly 60 with dips at 55.

Volume test 5 uses 2740MB RAM with the same setup but FPS is max 24 and dips at 20.

The new test looks fantastic, but it got about 2fps for me. I tried to exit out to change my graphics settings and the game crashed :)

[defunct site link removed by moderator] contains the ksp log and the contents of the crash directory. I'm going to crank my settings to the bottom of the pile and try again.

With everything down to the bottom of the barrel it played fine and didn't crash. :)

It looks like it is having a parsing error with the config. Did you modify the config at all (texture packs, gui, etc)? One of the shader floats sections is not right. Can you post the config files?

For a quick fix, re-install BOTH configs from the original 6.8.1 release. Or the whole thing.

Ah, that could be it, you are running at a much higher resolution than I am. I'll see what I can do. It is most likely GPU stress then.
