Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

Since 1.0.5 added smaller jet engines, I thought I would try and build an actual Bristol Boxkite instead of a tow glider. Unfortunately, the way the rudder is positioned causes the jet's thrust to be cut off and the rudder itself overheats. SQUAD, please, stock propeller engines, we need them....

GPQ6Jyh.png Oh yeah, I also used Majorjim's thermometer strut frame thing to make the tail look better, and the offset mod to get rid of those cubic struts. I'm not sure, but I think the part count might actually be lower than the glider variant

In other news, I built this little thing, I call it the GhettoGlider, but I'll come up with a better name if I decide to release it. I built it after a picture I saw one time of what I think was Leonardo's flying machine concept.

The only thing it needs work on right now is the tail. I accidentally smashed the elevators when I landed it because there isn't a wheel or skid there. Surprisingly, this thing is nearly as maneuverable as my Fokker triplane!

They look awesome man! I am very happy my trick is catching on. I really must make some more aircraft..

All stock.

I'm currently working on a Turkish Atlay replica. Fully functional vertical aiming drive for the cannon and a new non-jam bearing (haha).

I'm also adding a remote weapons station, similar to the CROWS I station with full vertical and horizontal aiming drives shown here on my XM-1:

The Atlay - The newest revision is receiving major suspension upgrades for the number 1,2, and 7 road wheels.

And another project I'm working on: the Armored Marine Breeching Vehicle.

And for a new naval project I'm working on, I have some cool gear in the pipeline. :D:)

I... am... an idiot. All I needed to do was use two engines so their thrust vectors run to the side of the rudder instead of straight through it!

It's as maneuverable so most of my planes and faster than you would expect for a pre-WWI biplane. I'll probably have to set the thrust limits back on the engines to keep the plane's speed to around 50m/s (right now it gets 80m/s in level flight or a climb and can reach seeds in excess of 100 m/s in a dive). The only bad parts are the long takeoff run (usual for planes without tricycle gear, I suppose), and the horrendous roll rate ((although it could just be Scatterer screwing with my frame rate, after all, I don't really have a graphics card or anything).

EDIT: Oh yeah, here's a picture of the real one for comparison!

I had to go back to a slightly earlier save of my destroyer to fix a problem with speed I was having, now the ship can reach 16 M/s in less than a minute. Now I need to give it some of the quality-of-life improvements for download, which might be pushed back to mid-week sadly, since 800 part ships are not very ideal for a computer.

Looking good mate. I installed the new ocean recently and whilst it looks great in a static image it looks awful when you move the camera.. Why has nobody mentioned this?

Hmm, I have it installed, and I don't notice a huge problem with it when you move the camera.  Maybe show @blackrack some screens on the scatterer thread?

What seems to be the issue exactly? Maybe make a video if it's something rare.

Ok will do. I am seeing some shadow bugs also. I will make a vid and post it here this eve.

You mean with cloud shadows on the ocean? Alright, remember to tag me or quote me directly so I get a notification.

Oceans should look like this when moving around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVvglDyM-Ok

Panic over, a module manager update fixed all the issues! Thanks for the help.

Made a swingset.....

HI!

A swing arm that long will put too much force on the bearing. Also given how wobbly it was I think your recreation of my hinge is a little off.

Of course it takes a steady hand and a good eye to make a system reliable that uses this hinge. If done correctly it will operate without fail, time after time.

I would suggest pointing the watchers of that video to the tutorial I posted on this site. And a mention of the fact that I invented it would be nice also.

Where is the torque coming from, I saw two batteries, are there reaction wheels clipped in too?

you can see the RW either side of the chair. It's a copy of my swingset. Except he copied my hinge incorrectly. You must use two thermometers at each end to stop the sideways motion. Using a cubic octagonal strut will not work properly.

If people want to see how it really is made see my tutorial HERE.
