The Rocket Printing Hype Train Thread

I think you are off by an hour. Typical Devnote Tuesday is somewhere around 17:00 CST, it's 16:00 now. Of course that doesn't guarantee anything, sometime it's earlier, sometimes it's later.

Well, it lists the current time as 17:02, and all the devnotes as 17:10 for me.

Edit: SEE? :P

It's out! http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/111668-Devnote-Tuesday-Fairing-well?p=1756528#post1756528

EDIT: Er, no details about the partnership yet, apparently. There will be an announcement "later"

Max (Maxmaps): Marketing deals, promotional deals, collaborations and all sorts of meetings galore! Add to that meetings and quick talks with the devs to monitor their fantastic progress and it’s been a very, very busy week. I’ll be throwing an AMA announcement on our subreddit and forums later regarding an exciting new partnership. Other than that, absolutely thrilled with the response and love Valentina got from you guys. KSP continues to have the coolest community out there. Also this week’s Squadcast may contain some early looks at new IVAs!

Max said on his Twitter it was related to in-game stuff, though that could be another secret feature.

Oh ok. I had only seen the one where he said it was related to your in game creations. I took that as possibly being some kind of rocket building toy. I hadn't seen the twitter post.

Here's hoping we still get KSP desk toys eventually, I need to liven up my workspace. :D

How about an Estes Flying Kerbal Rocket? Of course, being a proper model rocket, it would have to be designed to NOT explode and crash, but it would still be fun to have a model rocket with nice KSP texture wraps.

I just had a 1966 flashback... Thank you from the deepest bottom of my heart!!!!

So I notice they got the Devnotes out early, and said the announcement would come "later." Assuming that means later today, maybe the entity with which they have partnered is in a different timezone than Squad.

Sounds reasonable. We have around 1.5 hours to go before 24 hours is up from the first mention of the thing.

Yeah, but there's still 6.5 hours of "today" in Squad's time zone and 8.5 left in the Pacific timezone. If the partner is on PST, then it could be SpaceX.

That would be very cool. LEGO would be cool too, but I think Estes is the more likely of the two.

Hmmm. I'm not sure SpaceX has anything new to add in terms of parts..

I imagine it's something smaller. focus on the "-your- craft" quote.

Actually, I'd tip LEGO over Estes. LEGO has a wider audience, and most model rocket hobbyists already know about KSP I expect.

good, something probably expensive that the majority of us will never do.

Yeah what the hell?? I just read it. Kinda silly considering 95% of KSP players couldnt afford this luxury Also, I doubt They could print any of the better detailed craft made on these forums. Sigh..

You don't know if you can afford it or not yet. That isn't the point though. The point is a partnership where we'll be able to simply click a menu option and place an order for a 3D toy model of a craft or contraption we have individually designed.

It doesn't matter how jaded you are, that is still really, really, cool.

It's probably something minor and corny like the Shapeways stuff. I really doubt it's anything like an acquisition or major change.

This is cooler than I thought it would be. I wonder if they could even handle my Saturn V, with all its clipping.

I think we are guessing prices based on the Shapeways KSP 3d prints. $130 USD for full IVA Kerbals.

Me, I'm wondering just how hollow and lightweight these things can be made while still remaining strong enough to be.. well.. airworthy.

Rocket with room in the bottom for an Estes or microhybrid rocket motor?

Airframe with enough space inside to fit control rods, servos, control surfaces, maybe a ducted fan or two?
