Stock Communications System: What's the Word Now?
klesh replied to Geschosskopf's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I love sticking too many antennae to my probes, I am really looking forward to more options in that department. I really wish he had some kind of sexy, animated magnetometer. DMagic has alot of fun looking things in it for that science greeble appeal. -
Stock fairings: disable snap?
klesh replied to qeveren's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I remember seeing a mod that mellowed the snap of the stock fairings to something more reasonable. Unfortunatly this was months ago, no idea about it now. -
Take the top 2 engines off and your center of mass will shift forward. Your center of lift is too far behind the center of mass Alternatively, should you want to keep the engines, slide them wings forward a bit.

Why are spaceplanes so twitchy after re-entry?
klesh replied to awfulhumanbeing's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In my MK3 shuttle replica, I place one of the MK3 monopropellant tanks on either ends of the bay doors to act as ballast tanks. In the SPH, I make sure that each tank is only half full (empty?) with 500 units of mono each. This way, I can push all the monopropellant to the front tank which would be 100% full and the back one 100% empty. This allows you to control you COM a bit more. Add to this the 100 units in the MK3 cockpit as a forward reserve (turn fuel flow off in the SPH) and you can have a little more to use as ballast after you've burned off much of your mono in space (if youre using the OMS style for thrust in space). Of couse, this isnt exactly efficient in that youre hauling mono up and down into space, but that mono has a ballast use beyond its thrust capabilities, so its a fair trade to me. -
The worst offender imho of this syndrome is "Kerbonaut". You'll hear it all the time, and indeed there is no mention of it in the game. On the contrary, they are explicitly referred to as Astronauts via the Astronaut Complex building. I may refer to the Sun as Kerbol from time to time however.

Have you checked lately on this? The reason I ask is recently they changed the fact you cannot enable EC flow from a reserve battery when your craft is out of juice so I am going to presume you may not be able to enable/disable flow on tanks as well. Edit: Duh, the guy above me said the same thing, lol.

It shoots objects at whatever the screen is pointing at. You can choose the size and mass of the objects being shot. Its used for lulz etc.

Sun Ra's "Space is the Place" is always good.

Scott Manley's greatest Kerbal Space Program series
klesh replied to KerbalCorgi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I vote Interstellar Quest as well. There is 100+ episodes ready for bingewatching. His latest one is now in Real Solar System is just starting to get good with him able to do more interesting missions. Funny, I am just the opposite. The (recorded) live streams have so much jibber jabber about side topics and randomness. He'll say hello to "SpaceRanger27" and various other people that say hello in a chat etc. To me, I prefer the condensed videos of him talking about relevant things and accomplishing something in the video. The livestreams where he makes silly things are indeed fun though. -
Commercial break: reap the powers of the TiltProbeCore™!
klesh replied to n.b.z.'s topic in KSP1 Discussion
Super interesting idea! I suppose the smaller cores are still able to harness the torque from all the command modules, so even a tiny OKTO2 can hold a shuttle's heading. How are you attaching your TiltProbeCore™(s)?Via Cubic Octagonals and gizmo work? -
Klinger sure looks different without a dress on.

Orbital station construction?
klesh replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
For power, I'll use a main solar array with a few backup panels. Main array is basically these: Add some RCS thrusters to the ends, and pack it inside a fairing, such that your ship is connected to the decoupler, and the docking port is your nose, ready to be paired to a docking port on your station. Once docked, separate the ship that brought it up with the decoupler and you now have yourself mucho power. -
Steam's default screenshot key is f12, iirc, so that might be interefering?
-
I think you'll find the pros far outweigh the cons, especially with a big ship and framerates.
-
Heh, which is why I used the question mark. I haven't tried it yet.

You'll have the 10m heatshield to work with on 1.1, which might be advisable to use whilst aerobraking at Jool?

Science Labs in 1.1
klesh replied to Fortunateson1969's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is one part that has confused me since its inclusion in the throw them on space stations for looks, but I have never once actually used it to generate science. I send what I can from probes and return what I can to Kerbin. -
Mouse over the kerbals portraits, and you will see a small circular button appear to the left of the leftmost portrait. Mouse over it identifies it as the interior overlay button. Click it.

Fixed in 1.1!
