Is infiniglide still a thing?
klesh replied to herbal space program's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I havent experienced any infinigliding since the new aero model. Even fins from an exploded rocket (not mine, of course) dont really infiniglide anymore. -
In that screenie it appears youre highlighting the "abort" action group, which by default is empty. You see there are a few standard action groups with labels, and then your 10 custom ones. Try this: Click the Custom 1 action group on the left. Then click on any part of your ship that can perform an action (for example, an antennae). Just to the right, you'll be given a list of the actions that part can perform via action group. For an antennae, select something like "toggle antenna", which will extend it if its retracted or vice versa. You can then select that action to occur when you hit "1" on your keyboard. Note, you can add several actions from various different parts to happen on the same action group. For instance, opening a cargo bay and deploying solar pannels, antennae, and a ladder all at once.

Sepratrons for me. My favorite style is to put 2 of them on the flat top of a booster, at such an angle that their flames wont hit the main craft, but will still apply the majority of their force away from the main ship. I'll put my nosecones on the top of the boosters, so only the engine bell of the sepratrons poke out. Looks great and functions swimingly. Don't forget to tweak the burn time and thrust levels if you want a cinematic feel to the separation.

Bothering Magic Boulder [pic heavy - SPOILERS]
klesh replied to Brotoro's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Looks like you have gotten your wish! Sorry for the necropost, but with the recent re-release of Magic Boulders into the wild, this might be considered a relevant mission report. -
Have a read of this. Its Brotoro's epic adventure to find the fabled Magic Boulder of olde. This is one of the best missions I've ever read.

Maybe you have the chance of a specific resource usually found on a faraway planet zoomin by Kerbin, or somesuch. You know the chart I'm on about... with those several resources. I could see having a % chance of the more rare resources flying around.
-
The colors would be cool if we had all those different colored resources from that big chart. Resource specific Magic Boulders, as it were.
-
I guess thats a reason to visit those asteroids now.

Tried the search a few times and the result were not as expected. Gave up on using it.

Is that a Navball mod featuring negative G or am I mistaken?

Those Stupid Airborne Missions
klesh replied to Corona688's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm really looking forward to seeing how the terrier is redesigned, if at all. At present it strikes me as one of the uglier and more boring looking engines out there. -
Same. I dont really use the non retractable gears much, but I've been fling and landing everything from shuttles to huge cargo planes without much issue at all. No tweaks to the wheels other than 150% breaks in the back, and no steering. The usual steering and normal breaks for the front gear. Heck, I even loaded up BDArmory and have been flying around rediculously overloaded planes, taking off and landing with no unusual behaviour. I use a kb and mouse, on a terrible laptop with onboard graphics.

Solar pannels blocked by SSME
klesh replied to klesh's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Indeed. -
I'd like to see a classy plaque for him at the KSC. I would also like to see that OG kerbal sketch he made be turned into a texture on some plaque at a far off location.

So, I have this shuttle replica, and I have some solar pannels in the cargo bay that I deploy now and then to recharge the batteries. I also have 3 Vector engines at the back of the ship. Vectors blocked my solar pannel's access to the sunlight at one point, which is normal and fine. However, the solar pannel's right-click menu displayed: "XYZ solar pannels blocked by SSME" Now you and I both know that that means Space Shuttle Main Engine, but nowhere else in the game that the average player will see is the term SSME used. Not in the part name, not in the part discription. From what I gather, it is the "part configuration" (listed here) that tells the game to call the Vector SSME. Unless you tell the player that the Vector is a SSME somewhere, being told later "the SSME is blocking Kerbin or the solar pannel or whatever" isn't of much use. Suggestion: Put "SSME" somewhere in the part description, so a player will know it will be reffered as such later in the game. -or- Change the right click feedback to say "S3 KS-25 Vector Engine is blocking your solar pannel"

Quick RCS build tip: On the clean bottom of a vertical fuel tank, place the small spherical RCS tanks with symmetry applied. 2 or 3 is plenty. Then slap whatever engine you're going to use on the usual fuel tank node. Your RCE tanks will be clipped into the tank butt and with proper application of the gizmos, you can ensure that everything fits in an interstage fairing. You'll see this kind of thing somewhat irl, so I dont consider it too cheaty. Your milage may vary.

I got nothing going for me on Earth. I'd love to garden in space and or on Mars.

Ive only really used them in the OMS configuration. Those tiny cupcake landers look hot as usual.
