  1. From the OP article: "It is also not entirely clear why the creatures would not have moved since they were first spotted four years ago. " Bahahahaha Edit: Also, the Curiosity has been on Mars since 2012? Geez time is going by fast :|
  2. Obviously the pilots have wing suits and jetpacks, so they can do radical stunts while advising the passengers not to panic. Because, did you see that backflip? Rad, right?! (No I'm not serious )
  3. If you prefer NVidia, you should go for a GTX 750 Ti. If you prefer AMD, you should go for an R9 270. Can't speak for R7 series, as I've never used them. If you don't have strong feelings one way or the other, pick the one with the cooler name (Personally I went for the R9 270) I think the GTX will actually be a little cheaper than the R9, but (this is just my opinion here) I believe the R9 would provide adequate graphics for a longer period of time.
  4. Well, that really depends on what I'm doing. If I'm trying to sleep or play video games, then a dark room is preferred. If I'm trying to wake up, I prefer it bright and sunny. Because otherwise I'd never get out of bed At work, I prefer a comfy chair and a PC screen that doesn't hurt my eyes. I'd prefer a quieter office location (rather than next to a very busy intersection) but hey, you can't have everything. If I'm relaxing (not playing video games) then somewhere outside, with plants and a cool breeze. Having lots of green (plants) makes me feel more relaxed. If I'm vacationing (which has been a few years, but hey maybe soon) either forest or desert. Basically, somewhere remote. Least favorite: noisy, crowded, dark, closed-in places. Like dance clubs, or raves, or places like that. Not a fan.
  5. Indeed, mine was somewhat inspired by that. I can't do those sorts of part counts without it becoming a slideshow, so I went a mod route
  6. I used to play often. Now I just look at the forums.
  7. Looks like quite a challenge! In which case, it should be posted in the Challenge section. I have a question: is it stock only, or are mod parts allowed?
  8. Ah, makes sense. I don't think it would be needed in some situations, though. Specifically situations where any part from a category will do. For example, if it must generate power, you really shouldn't need to list every part that can generate power, because they're all acceptable. I think it should be more restricted to the more ambiguous contracts, like the "ISRU" from the OP. In this case, there are two "ISRU" parts, but only one of them is acceptable. I'd say in that case, it should be made clear. Not so much when any part from a category could be used. If that makes any sense
  9. (Off-topic) Seriously? So a game can go to 1.0 "release" (and beyond) and not be even remotely complete? What the [redacted] do Alpha and Beta signify then? Why call it 1.0? Sure there was a big spike in sales, but then what? Everyone (read: the majority) plays a half-finished version of the game for a few hours and then moves on? Is there anyone we can trust? ---------------------- (On-topic) Agreed. Nothing is worse than spending a long time getting your craft to where it needs to go, just to find out you have the wrong type of _________. (ISRU, etc.) Assuming you can show/hide those descriptions in @DMagic's mock-up, that would be a nice addition. Perhaps it only shows the relevant parts you have unlocked at the time? Just an idea.
  10. Bought Minecraft way back when it was $5, well before release. Long before horses, jungles, experience points, enchanting, etc. Haven't played it in a long, long time. It's become over-saturated with stuff I don't care for, and there's plenty of other voxel-building games now.
  11. Likes are cool. I'll use them as an easy way to say "I agree with this post" or something along those lines. Or perhaps "dude, awesome ship!" Basically along this lines.
  12. Reminds me of an old gif I made... (In case you're curious: Landing legs, small LF tank, IR freespinning port thing (forgot the exact name), Tweakscaled jet engines, tweakscaled wings... was trying to make a helicopter rotor... could lift off at full throttle, but was very difficult to control. I did eventually make a prop-plane that used a similar system. The engines were tilted to provide an adequate amount of forward thrust on top of spinning the blades, so I could actually fly)
  13. @Regex Is it more realistic that way? Because, to my untrained eye, it looks... not pretty. Anyway I think we're getting a bit off-topic...
  14. I was under the impression that the chances of getting hit by space debris were astronomical. From what I've read in this thread, it seems to be dodging stuff all the time. I agree with the idea of keeping it around as a monument to human achievement, assuming that it can be boosted to a safe orbit where debris becomes less of an issue.
  15. Ahhh, gotcha. I don't know enough about rockets to dispute functionality or aesthetics, but I kinda like em the way they are. Then again, I always appreciate increases in creative freedom. Then again, I (and others who can't afford Haswell/Skylake components) also appreciate low part counts. Edit: Personally, not a fan of the "no tapered bottom" look, as shown in the above pictures. I can't see why one couldn't clip the "tank butt" into the fuel tank... But to each their own!
  16. ... tank butts? Have an picture of what you mean?
  17. Assuming I'm thinking of the right one (3.75m, single-nozzle, moderate atmo ISP, higher vac ISP?), and assuming the stats haven't been changed super-recently, I've used it with moderate success as a first-stage, or occasionally SSTO, launcher for small payloads. Is it particularly efficient? No, not really. But, in some instances, it allows me to focus on ascent path, rather than stage timing, etc. Also, I kinda like how it looks. And the fact you can still stack below it, unlike the Mammoth. Also, it lets me be lazy once in a while, and skip a stage or two. But hey, that's just me.
  18. Someone already made the Pabst Blue Ribbon joke... Darn... But if that's the official drink of KSP, then all the explosions start making a lot more sense...
  19. In my mind, it works like this: velocity is a relation between two objects. Therefore velocity is always relative. Relative to my chair, I am not moving. Relative to the sun, I am flying around at high speed. Relative to the center of the galaxy, I am moving even faster. So (again, in my mind, at least) your question needs another part: zero velocity in relation to what? The nearest celestial object? A specific orbit? A distant, but relevant, object?
  20. Windows 10 here. The experience has been... varied. The first thing that happened was a struggle to install it. I attempted to use a CD first instead of a USB, so that's likely my fault. Once I had it installed, my HDD of several years tragically died. Was it the fault of Win 10? Well, it was probably just the installation process causing extra stress. Ordered a new HDD, and installed Win 10 when it arrived. Worked great for a bout a week, then had another dead HDD. It was becoming increasingly difficult not to blame Win 10. Third time was a charm: no dead HDD yet. However, my PC is now in the habit of turning itself on (from sleep mode) in the middle of the night, which suddenly fills my room with blue light and sometimes makes me wonder if I'm about to get abducted by aliens. From what I've learned, it's caused by Windows waking the PC up to install updates, but never putting it back to sleep. Regardless, the only solution is to shut it down completely when I put it to bed. So all in all: I don't remember having issues like this with Windows 7! Take that as you will
  21. Wowee, you were renting an entire house for (if my calculations are correct) under $800/mo? That's what I pay for a studio where I live... Just remember: it could always be worse
  22. [imgur]Uz03ZqR[/imgur] that format usually works, but not at the moment it seems.
  23. Not sure if it's the best in any capacity, but the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro has been kind to me (at least when I've been kind to it). Lots of programmable buttons, comfortable grip, and has lasted me more years than I can believe (had it since Burning Crusade was the latest WoW expansion... musta been 2007-2008, which is, shockingly, nearly 10 years ago). I also believe it's on the lower end of the pricing spectrum, too. If you're anything like me, that makes a bit of a difference
  24. Obligatory "Mystery Goo is Kerbals!" // "Soylent Green is people!"
  25. [Off-Topic] Wow, glad to see this challenge still going! Definitely the favorite challenge I've done Thanks to Claw for keeping it going, and good luck to all entries!
