  1. According to the link in @Alshain 's post (Above), it appears that the intake of the Nacelle and Pre-Cooler are dead even until about Mach 1.5, at which point the Nacelle drops quickly, while the pre-cooler powers ahead til about Mach 3, at which point it begins tapering off. Other than this, yeah, it would seem they are very similar. As for uses, well, personally it'd mainly be aesthetic. Sometimes I prefer the look of the Nacelle to the Pre-Cooler. Really, depending on the mode or style you choose to play as, aesthetics could well be higher priority, than, say, efficiency. As said above, I like my ships to look pretty, even if they are a touch to the inefficient side. Others may sacrifice aesthetics for efficiency. To each their own. Do I agree that there should be two separate parts? Well, I'll put it this way: I don't think either needs to be removed. I like the meshes and textures of each, and one or the other may look better on certain crafts. While I agree that it is somewhat redundant, I don't think there's really too big a need to remove it. I'm sure there are less-frequently-used, more complicated parts out there. The LES comes to mind. Tons more geometry than a simple cylinder, yet I rarely see it used. This is not a call to remove the LES: I'm sure it's still used often enough to warrant it's place (I once Tweakscale'd it and used it as a hood ornament for some of my rovers). Besides, I feel like simply removing one part among many will do little to reduce the impact on lower-end PCs. But hey, that's just my opinion
  2. Allow me to answer a few questions, if I might be so bold: "(never seen a plane that seriously overheats anyway)" - Have you ever seen a spaceplane? Or an SSTO? How about during re-entry? "(and i'm in the upper 50% of pc's)" - So I assume you have KSP on an SSD? I do, and have noticed minimal loading lag due to "extra" parts. In fact, it's faster now than it's been at any point in it's development, even with mods installed. "extra planets" - Yeah, it's been suggested since forever. It's probably going to happen. "but how does this help someone who is new to the game, trying to go to SPACE, when they have redundant, duplicate plane parts cluttering their install." - Career mode. I had no idea which parts did what when I first started playing, but Career mode introduces them slowly so you can understand the function of each one. "Better hope MJ doesn't go the WAY of KER or i'm all done with you KSP." - Well, that's a mod and not an official part of the game. If you stop playing because a mod is no longer supported, it says more about you than it does about the game... Besides, you can't expect modders to stay interested forever. They are human, y'know.
  3. Made a 'Moon Train' in one of my early games. Got bored and drove it off a cliff. It actually lasted a lot longer than I expected. A couple of Kerbals were still alive at the bottom of the valley, and a few 'cars' of the train were still functional.
  4. Let's see, first PC games I remember were playing were Age of Empires, Worms (one of the many versions of it), and RollerCoaster Tycoon (original and #2). First portable game I personally owned was Pokemon Blue on the Game Boy Color (in Atomic Purple ), though we had Game Gears before that. I think my favorite game on those was either Road Rash or Ecco.
  5. Just me and some random human.
  6. Hm they may have deleted it. Just as well, as not many were, err, all that polite to the question asker...

    MMOs

Well one of the first things I look at is character development. I prefer MMO's with a lot of options to truly make your character unique. If I'm not having fun leveling and assigning points, then I'm probably not playing for very long. Next up is usually combat system. I've been moving away from WoW-style (stand here, press these buttons) and more towards action-RPG style (timing of sword swings, better character control, etc.), of which there are not many. Personally, quality of other players is usually not too big of a factor. If the world is very very low population, that's a bad sign. Otherwise, it doesn't make too big a difference for me.
  8. I had to (calmly) explain to someone in the Science section last year exactly why chutes wouldn't work on the moon. I really shouldn't comment beyond that, but you can prolly find the thread if you look...
  9. Well this was back in 0.90, I believe, or whenever we still had souposhere. Currently, it's a lot harder to make a rover achieve those speeds, or at least was last time I tried. I kept it warp 1x the entire time, so as to reduce accidents (still broke a lot of stuff...). To keep it safe(ish) at that speed, I had the over-powered reaction wheels to help keep it glued to the ground when need be, and being able to orient properly in the air for smooth(ish) landings. Also a more precise method of input than keyboard helps tremendously, if you have something available. As for getting the speeds I got, I'm not sure it's possible with the current aero stuff. The basic jet engines seem to be a lot weaker now than back then, and in some cases, even thirstier. But hey, this is Kerbal: modifying your vessel a billion times is half the fun
  10. Heyy, kinda off-topic, but I can't help but notice that your projected path is very similar (except for one stretch) to the path I took! My actual route differs by two more different routes (crossing water instead of going around on land at two areas, and going north of a mountain range instead of south), but still very similar. If you haven't done a full circumnav yet, I suggest skimming thru mine to see what kind of issues I came upon. Knowing is half the battle! Good luck on your circumnavigation!
  11. Hm, well it changes from month to month (I usually move shortcuts around, putting most in a folder rather than clutter my desktop), but lately, the list is something like this: Empyrion: Galactic Survival Medieval II: Total War Gothic 3 (despite being released before it was finished, and despite often poor reviews, and assuming you are a patient person, it's a very fun game) Euro Truck Simulator 2 And some other games I've put many hours into, though not lately: GTA 5 (and perviously: GTA 4, GTA: SA, GTA 3) DC Universe Online World of Warcraft Rust Warframe Battlefield series (started with 1942, also played Bad Company 2, BF3, and BF4) Tales of Maj'Eyal (old-school rouge-like dungeon crawler) Skyrim (of course!) Borderlands 2 Assetto Corsa Minecraft (back in the day) Star Citizen Saint's Row series (3 & 4) And many more! Full Steam list here: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198037223729/games/?tab=all Edit: I keep adding more... someone stop me
  12. Due to aero overhauls, VTOLs are no longer possible in this design due to, well, realism. (Important part is the Wheesley attached to an IR hinge, clipped into fuselage, providing at least 1.1 TWR when fully fueled. In modern times, it appears the Wheesley produces about half the thrust needed for such operations): Also (I think) from waaaay back in 0.90, a great example of air-hogging. It could get up to about 2km/s in Atmo before switching to chemical mode on the RAPIERS (as was standard for those days). It was capable of carrying station sections (up to 5t I think) up to LKO, and sometimes took up a(n) (impractical) version of the Canadarm to assist in station construction. The idea was to save weight by letting the Arm "grab" the modules and connect the docking ports, instead of adding MonoProp and RCS systems to every module. It... was more difficult than just putting RCS on each module, and eventually abandoned to drift in space.
  13. So that's what it's like having supportive parents. Huh. As a kid, I'd often get socks for X-Mas, which as a child is not a great gift. As an 26-year old man, I was rather sad no one got me any socks What I was gifted was candy, an electric toothbrush, and a new jacket. Got my dad a bottle of his favorite whiskey, got my mom a necklace (I have no idea what to get for women, so it usually ends up being cheap(ish) jewelry), and got my brother some... stuff he enjoys. Since I've been making decent money, I ordered a few things for myself, including an iPhone 5C (first smartphone I've ever had... mainly as a practice phone so I can get another part-time job repairing them), a few video games, and also made arrangements to purchase a used car. I almost feel like an adult!
  14. I feel that with literally anything that gets a hype train going, someone, somewhere is going to be disappointed. You put something up on a pedestal: "a new Star Wars! It must be the best movie to ever exist in any conceivable universe! The fact that everyone is excited about it must mean it's true!" will leave some folks disappointed, no matter how good it is. Can't please everyone.
  15. I stick to wired input devices, solely because of issues like this If it were me in that situation, idk. Watch and see how far it goes anyway, probably...
  16. Those numbers were pulled outta my... err, thin air... and not as much representative of the actual numbers. Good advice nonetheless, thank you. I might end up with a 750W or so, as I can't imagine going over that (especially if I go through with my i7 upgrade... more speed for less wattage sounds nice, if a bit pricey ) I̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶g̶e̶n̶e̶r̶a̶l̶ ̶(̶v̶a̶g̶u̶e̶,̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶n̶)̶ ̶m̶e̶t̶r̶i̶c̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶g̶o̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶b̶e̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶b̶o̶t̶t̶l̶e̶n̶e̶c̶k̶e̶d̶?̶ ̶ ̶1̶0̶%̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶p̶e̶a̶k̶?̶ ̶ ̶2̶0̶%̶?̶ ̶ ̶S̶o̶m̶e̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶p̶l̶i̶c̶a̶t̶e̶d̶?̶ ̶ ̶:̶)̶ Thanks! Ah, just saw your reply. Those numbers are pretty much exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Should help out a ton!
  17. Considering I've been mainly playing Euro Truck Simulator lately, my "main" save has a two-launch station in LKO, a maintenance shuttle (for Bill), and a random probe from when I was testing SSTOs. Plus maybe two pieces of debris. Maybe.
  18. Afternoon! A question or two regarding PSUs (while we're somewhat on the subject). I was under the impression that one would get a PSU as close as possible to your peak usage, without going under. So in my mind, a PC that tops out at 512W would do best with a 550W PSU. Is there any problem in having higher wattage? I imagine it wouldn't be a great idea to, say, toss a 1000W in there. Or are they advanced enough that they can regulate themselves? Basically: if I plan on continuing to upgrade my PC, should I just grab a huge 1000W PSU (well-rated of course, probably silver or gold) and not worry about it? Or (all else being equal) is it safer for my components to match the wattage closely?
  19. Huh... if the creator snuck some paid ads in there that pop up on each refresh, they've gotta be making bank. Get a bunch of people confused, code the page so it grabs different elements each time it's pulled, toss a few ads in (that give the creator a couple cents per view), and you've got a site people will continue to go to, which in turn makes the creator money. Word spreads, more people start looking at it, which means more page views, which means more $$ for the creator. It's kinda genius, really. Most people keep repeat traffic with stolen content, but at least then it's complete information, not snippets and psuedorandom files. That, or the best representation of mental insanity I've seen yet.
  20. In my own experience, random shutdowns have always been due to overheating. You might need to apply some new thermal paste and clean all the dust out. Oddly enough, my PC currently has the opposite problem... I'll put it to sleep when I'm going to bed and like an hour later I realize that my room is glowing: the PC is on again. Get up, put it back to sleep, and then it stays, thankfully... :| Either my PC is possessed or there's some weird wiring going on.
  21. Gave me a good couple chuckles. Thanks for sharing
  22. Hello again PC Building thread! I've started looking for things that work in a 5.25" bay, as I have 3 open. After looking at a list of possibilities (link for those that are interested) I've got my eye on a few different ones. One thing I'd like is something like this (STW 6049 5.25 Drive Bay Ventilation Fan Control Panel Temperature) or like this (STW 5.25 Inch All-in-1 Card Reader with 2 Fan Controller &2 Usb3.0 Port LCD Display Screen Support Ms/ms/tf/sd/mmc/cf/md/xd Card Reader for Pc). Basically it has a little display to tell you internal PC temps and some extra ports. I don't care as much about the extra ports, but I do like the idea of having a display for temps. Problem is, most of the ones I've looked at are from China (not necessarily a bad thing on it's own) and very very few have any reviews at all. I tend to rely a lot on reviews for honest opinions. So my question is: are there other options similar to those listed above that people have explored? Are there any good manufacturers, or any products with a decent number of reviews? Sure they're generally cheap ($30 or so) but I don't wanna buy DOA stuff that won't get RMA'd. Edit: I also like the drawer options, but I can make one myself if I really want one. TL;DR: What are some cool things I can put in my extra 5.25" drive bays? I have 3 open, and don't need more DVD drives or HDD bays (I have two out of five open still).
  23. After much grumbling, I managed to get a half ton probe to orbit via SSTO.
  24. Here's what you need to do: - Go to your Windows search bar at the bottom left, and type in "dxdiag", hit enter. Edit: I was going to have you paste all the info into a spoiler, but apparently those don't work anymore, so just look for the line that says "Processor" and copy down what it says there. Then, flip to the "display" tab (top right of window) and copy what it says in the "device" section (left side of window). This should give us the info we need.
