Modded Comunity Space Station (Not an ISS replica)
pTrevTrevs replied to GoldForest's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Alright, I have the mods and the save installed and ready to go, but it will be a while before I can start, it's bratwurst night for dinner! -
totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread
pTrevTrevs replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I wouldn't trust Burn Together with holding a tight formation. One time I used it to fly three of my Fokker Triplanes (they were exactly identical) at once, but even with BT armed, they drifted kilometers apart and I had to keep moving then closer together. -
I'm not really sure you need that much fuel for the 909, especially if you have more feeding into that tank. I would use a quarter size tank, because you don't really need too much fuel to escape the Mun's SOI unless you want to go into orbit around it first. I might also replace those small engines on the radial tanks with 909s just to give you some extra braking power when landing. If you have the 2.5 meter separator, use that instead of the decoupler, it looks better and is more compact. Actually, you could even remove the decoupler altogether, you don't really need it if you add enough parachutes.

Dont forget the ability to choose the number of detaching segments. Maybe we ought to start a petition or reform movement or something to get them to fix the fairings. -

pTrevTrevs replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Amen, brother! What's even worse is that (as far as I know) Squad still hasn't admitted that the fairings need an overhaul. -
Hang on, it looks like I was confused. I was thinking of the connections between Russian ISS modules and US ones, because those do use APAS ports. Even the connections between the Russian modules themselves weren't any different from what was used on Soyuz, so we still have docking ports in the pack that will work for connecting Mir or Russian ISS modules.

If you liked my Bristol Boxkite, wait until I release the super secret project I'm working on. If you can guess what it is, I'll give you... something... Eh, I'll figure it out if someone actually guesses it. (Better just PM me if you have a guess, I don't want to clutter up this thread with irrelevant replies, and I would like to keep it as secret as I can for the moment) Hint: It was one of the primary reasons for the Allied victory in the Pacific in WWII. Okay, I've shamelessly advertised myself enough, I'll let you have your thread back now.
-
Yeah, but those were APAS ports, which are also in the pack in the right size.

totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread
pTrevTrevs replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I had a crazy idea a few hours ago... Unfortunately, it happened to be the exact same crazy idea that caused the Empire of Japan to start killing off their few remaining pilots in suicide attacks on U.S. warships. Luckily, this is KSP, so I can do this with no consequences whatsoever! I could have had this completed by now, it's not that hard to make a suicide bomb and test it, but the Kraken would not have me release anything today. Yeah... Based on this and several other problems I've had in the past with quickloads, launch/recovery of vessels, and strange sound effects that shouldn't be playing, I'm beginning to think I may have a corrupt install. Not really sure what would be causing it though. -
What actually counts as "old"? Because my favorite strategy game was released in 2006. I like Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64, as well as that podracing game for the same system. I mean, if nothing else good came out of The Phantom Menace, at least we got that podracing game.

R.I.P Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 - 6th human to walk on the Moon
pTrevTrevs replied to Stone Blue's topic in The Lounge
True, but considering how crazy ambitious Elon Musk is, I would not be surprised if he tried to send something to the Moon, even if it were unmanned. Considering how much he's been able to do already, I think he could probably go to the Moon if he wanted to. Of course, we don't actually know if he wants to... -
Bristol Boxkite: Pre-WWI Biplane (Now with engines!)
pTrevTrevs replied to pTrevTrevs's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Huh, for a while I thought nobody was going to reply to thi- uh... I mean... uh.. Yeah, I would assume that it looks like the Wright Flyer because that was a plane which had been proven to work, and they decided to keep the same design features for simplicity and ease. For example, you will notice both planes have elevators on the front, and pusher props. That's my guess, anyway, I could be wrong. -

R.I.P Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 - 6th human to walk on the Moon
pTrevTrevs replied to Stone Blue's topic in The Lounge
Yeah, if you ask anyone on the street, chances are they would like another Moon program, it's just that the people with the power usually have "more important" things to do than send a spacecraft to the Moon, or even to space at all. Think about this though, we have a huge advantage that Apollo did not have. We have Elon Musk! -
R.I.P Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 - 6th human to walk on the Moon
pTrevTrevs replied to Stone Blue's topic in The Lounge
At least we still have... uh... Lets see, Armstrong's dead, Conrad's dead, Lovell's still alive, but he never landed.... uh... Shepard's dead, Scott's still alive... right? Wow, over half the astronauts who commanded Apollo landing missions are gone, we only have Scott, Young (fortunately), and Cernan left. As for LMPs, we still have Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Charlie Duke, and Harrison Schmitt. I think Edgar Mitchell is the firs LMP (who actually landed on the Moon) to die. Looks like we need to send some more people to the Moon! -
The UM-1 Ultra Manueverable Stunt Plane
pTrevTrevs replied to AquaAlmond Productions's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
This actually makes me wonder where we should draw the line between maneuverability and aerodynamic instability. Oh well, the F-16 was purposely made aerodynamically unstable in order to achieve better maneuverability, so I guess it's alright.- 34 replies

A couple of you may remember the tow glider I made a few version ago based on the Bristol Boxkite. My original plan was to build a replica of the plane, but there were no engines in stock KSP at the time that would fit on the plane, so i converted it into an unpowered glider. Now, thanks to the 0.625 Juno engines, I can give you my original vision; a functional, powered replica of the Bristol Boxkite. I have also used some advanced building techniques that have been brought to my attention since I built the glider to accurately replicate the tail structure and forward elevator. The offset mod has allowed me to reduce the number of cubic struts and achieve a smoother, more aesthetically pleasing shape while minimizing the number of parts required. You may ask "Why the Bristol Boxkite? Why is it so famous?" Well, Boxkite may not have been the first airplane, and it may not have been used in combat, but it was one of the first airplanes to be produced in significant quantity, with 78 of the type constructed. It was primarily used as a training aircraft prior to World War I, and many British fighter pilots learned to fly in a Boxkite. It continued to be used as an instructional aircraft until sometime in 1915. My Boxkite performs very well, with good maneuverability, great speed, and fair range. I built this plane with ease of operation in mind, so this plane will be good for perfecting your flying skills before taking on large, high speed jets or giant airliners and bombers. The aircraft's top speed it about 98 m/s, although it can easily break 110 m/s in a dive. It has enough fuel to make a flight to the KSC Island, but not quite enough to make it back without refueling. In case you run out of fuel, the plane is a good enough glider to land somewhat safely (Vehicle not guaranteed to operate safely after crash landing). In fact, I have ditched the plane in the ocean several times without losing any parts, I was even able to take off again one time! The real Boxkite had ailerons that could only be pulled down. In flight, the force of the air would return them to their normal position. I have tried to recreate this here by adding an action group that deploys all the ailerons. It's really more of an aesthetic feature than a functional one, however it does help you slow down for a landing more quickly, so it isn't completely useless. Flight Instructions Be careful when taking off. If you try and pitch up immediately after starting the engines, you'll overheat your elevator, and then bad things will happen. The plane should take off by itself before reaching the Spaceplane Hangar. If it still hasn;t left the ground by then, you may want to consider using the elevators. Don't pitch or yaw for too long, the engines will heat up your elevators and rudder and possibly make them explode. When landing, control your speed by killing the engines completely and lowering your flaps (AG1). When you touch down, be careful with the brakes, this plane does not have a tricycle undercarraige, which means it will tip on its nose if you brake too hard. If you need to, apply the brake for a second or two and then turn it off. Once the back wheel touches the ground, you'll usually be okay to brake to a stop, but be careful anyway. Thanks for taking the time to read this, if you download it, I hope you enjoy flying it as much as I did! Please don't hesitate to leave your thoughts here. I'm always happy to hear what people think of my craft, and I will take any ideas for improvement into consideration. DOWNLOAD HERE

totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread
pTrevTrevs replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
You know you have to make a version modified with fewer guns and more fuel and able to take off with a short runway for th Doolittle Raid version, -
Towards the end of Apollo, Slayton started assigning experienced pilots to backup crews (Apollo 14 CMP was the backup for Apollo 17). By the rotation pattern that was in place (fly, skip two missions, backup, skip two missions, fly again), it is likely that a few CMPs might have landed on the Moon had Apollos 18, 19, and 20 not been cancelled.
-
Ah yes, this plane..... The fat Russian biplane that anhiliates everything in its path and has access to wing mounted rockets in War Thunder. Looks to me like you forgot the Death Star superlasers that thing has for weapons, and I would probably use structural plates to better represent the 10 inch titanium armor plating that plane has covering its entire body.
-
You know, people always talk about how lonely Collins must have been, but from what I read, he was perfectly happy with his role as CMP. I think Richard Gordon, the Apollo 12 CMP, is the one you ought to have an awareness thread for. He had known Pete Conrad since they were fighter pilots and flew with him on Gemini 11, but when it came time for him to go to the Moon on Apollo 12, Alan Bean got to land on the Moon with Conrad instead, while Gordon stayed in orbit. Well, at least he had that... *calendar*... up there to keep him company, courtesy of the Apollo 12 backup crew...

I saw a story on 4chan about a guy who dressed up as a plague doctor and proceeded to ransack his local McDonalds. I would post it here, but I have a feeling that sharing anything from 4chan would get me in big trouble with the mods...

Fantasy, eh? Ever read Lord of the Rings?

Uh... Can I count the ones I've blown out of the water in Silent Hunter? I have yet to make a functional sub with torpedoes that also looks like a WWII sub. One day, though... One day....
