  1. I remember seeing a technique that allowed a submarine to dive without having to use its engines (just like how real subs dive) and resurface without jettisoning ore. That sort of setup would be ideal, but if I can only make it dive and resurface using the engines, I guess I could settle for that. The biggest problem I'm having is that I can't find a balance where the sub can sit on the surface without the decks being awash and still dive easily (or dive deep enough for the engine exhaust to not be seen from the surface. I do know that it is going to be very unlikely for me to make a ballast system refined enough for me to pick a specific depth (say, periscope depth) and hold the sub there.
  2. Until I can get help from someone knowledgeable in KSP buoyancy and hydrodynamics, I don't think the Gato submarine is going to get finished. In the meantime, I've been entertaining myself (on the occasions where I force myself to play KSP) by starting lots of small projects that i probably won't finish, like wrecking balls, suicide cruise missiles, and these, which I may consider releasing if I can make them look and perform well enough. Salyut 6 Looks pretty nice and is only about 80 parts. It's engines are pretty weak and don't have much fuel, to encourage using a Progress to change the station's orbit like the would usually do in real life. Has room for 4 kerbals. Soyuz-T Pretty much every part of this design was stolen borrowed from other Soyuz replicas I have seen around the forums. In fact, the only reason I'm making it at all is because I need something to send Kerbals to the station, and it just doesn't look right seeing an Apollo CSM or Orion docked to a 1970s Soviet space station. Yes, it has room for three Kerbals in the Descent Module. Still working on Progress, Soyuz rocket, and Proton.
  3. Looks like that might be a big ocean liner like the Titanic or the Queen Mary.
  4. The most noticeable turret that's missing for me has to be the top turret, right behind the cockpit (I'm pretty sure the B-24 had one there). Would you consider adding a few more pictures showing off the plane in detail? Maybe I would be able to get a closer look at the turrets then.
  5. After weeks of designing, testing, troubleshooting, and exorcisms, I have reached a point where I would be willing to release the Gato! Trust me, it may look cool, but it's still probably got a little evil left in it. Anyway, I'm still having troubles with getting the submarine to dive easily and still sit right in the water on the surface (even in the pictures, it's a little too low). If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about KSP buoyancy and how to make something sink and has some free time on their hands (and isn't afraid of this monster), I could certainly use some help in getting this thing balanced out, by this I mean I need someone else to take a look at the ship My design constraints are pretty simple: Make it able to dive fairly easily when you make it, but still have a waterline that doesn't look too bad. Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated, and I will make sure to give credit where it is due.
  6. You know, there's an old joke B-17 crews used to say about the Liberator that said the B-24 was actually the box the Flying Fortress was shipped in. Despite that, this is a pretty nice piece of work. The only big things it appears to be missing are the turrets.
  7. I still need to finish the Gato, but I keep procrastinating with other stupid projects that I probably won't finish, like this wrecking ball. I'm going to tear down this fuel tank and build a new hotel in its place.
  8. This... little... stinker. It doesn't behave that unusually, aside from the quirks associated with the fact that it's a submarine in a space sim. The real odd behavior actually happens with the game itself. I've had everything from spontaneous crashes to having all the water on Kerbin suddenly disappear (I was somewhat surprised to learn that the ocean floor is actually textured blue). I have come within inches of finally getting this into a releasable state, but it's still giving me the most trouble I've ever had with a KSP craft. Seriously, it was actually easier to build an American Civil War ironclad warship with a rotating turret and a very specifically placed waterline than it is to build this.
  9. I think you had better go ahead and do yours, I am still unsure of my schedule this week.
  10. If I remember correctly, in the Lego Batman game, Batman had a huge stash of kryptonite in the Batcave. To be fair, Lego games can't exactly be considered canon, but it does make sense and can be expected of someone like Batman to keep at least a little kryptonite against the possibility of fighting Superman (I guess it's already been established that the two heroes live in the same universe by the fact that this movie exists at all). Fortunately for Batman, he doesn't really have any weaknesses that can be exploited by Superman, except that he relies on technology and lacks any real superpowers Basically, as long as Batman has some kryptonite with him, he's gonna beat Superman into the ground. But that seems like it would almost be too easy, I'm sure the filmmakers have some sort of workaround to make the movie longer. Damn... I really ought to consider getting a life...
  11. The Total War and Silent Hunter series are mostly what I play, but I also enjoy Verdun, War Thunder, TF2, and a few other games.
  12. P-26 Peashooter with a small bomb. 100% stock, not too part heavy, good maneuverability, decent speed.
  13. Wait, is it my turn to launch again? *discreetly checks inbox* I guess I can fling something up there really quickly tonight. EDIT: Oops, looks like I won't be able to launch tonight after all. The earliest I could possibly do it is Saturday, and even that depends on whether or not I decide to go to a gun show.
  14. Wow, good job! So, what's your next big warship going to be? Another cruiser? Or perhaps a battleship? Too bad I can only like a thread one time.
  15. I took a break from the Gato today to build a simple WW2 style fighter bomber. It has two bombs for attacking submarines (I still need to vent my anger from the tedium of balancing the Gato), which could theoretically also be used as depth charges.
  16. I'll take a look at that idea! All I have led to do it balance it so it dived more easily, see if the cargo bay ballast trick is actually working, test the lookout stations, and get some good photos (and nave even make a movie!) Too bad MechJeb and KerbalEngneer don't have read outs tell you a craft's overall buoyancy, that would be immensely helpful. Azimech, I have an idea for a mod you may like...
  17. Yeah, just for looks. In real life, the holes were cut in the outer hull because it wasn't pressure resistant. They allowed water to get between the outer hull and the pressure hull so it wasn't crises by the pressure (Source, Das Boot). I don't have to have it, and I can release it without them (once I solve the few remaining problems), but it would really complete the look.
  18. Soon... EDIT: Does anyone have a low part idea for how to make the holes in the outer hull of the sub? Here's a picture of USS Drum, you can see what I'm talking about:
  19. Whoa, nice Mir! Looks like it doesn't have that many parts too! This may sound stupid, but what visual mods did you use? That's probably the most realistic looking view of Kerbin from space I've seen in the game!
  20. It looks really nice, but it looks like the descent stage may be a little too small for the top. I could be wrong on this though, it's hard to tell.
  21. So, I've got some planes from WW1 and earlier, as well as one from the interwar period. They aren't fast or big by any means, but they are pretty cool, and I take pride in how maneuverable they are. These are all stock, by the way.
  22. Gato balancing and trimming continues. I feel like a real submariner, fooling around with the exact locations of ballast in the sub. I hate to jinx myself, but I feel like I'm getting very close to finding the right balance to get this thing to submerge. EDIT: Still looking for that priest...
  23. I was wondering if it was possible... I'm going to have do something like this myself now.
  24. I have to be honest with you. I always liked The Next Generation better. How about an Enterprise D next? I'm going to be crucified for this, aren't I?
  25. So... usually I would be horrified to see so many unevenly placed parts (it makes it look like one of those houses from the Great Depression made out of various sheets of metal), but these trailers are so functional that I'm going to let it slide. I like the R.V., and the missile has such a nice shape! You ought to make more of these, so we can build entire bases out of them (maybe a barracks trailer, and supplies trailer, a fuel storage trailer, etc).
