I deleted KSP 1.0 and downloaded 1.0.4 because my launcher doesn't like updating for whatever reason, but now all I have is the game files, like I said, without the launcher, the KSP.exe or patcher. Is it in the file? I didn't see anything in the launcher data file, but all that should be in the KSP_win file anyways, in full view... So any ideas?

Ahh, ok I see, so the mass you add is what eats into the dV and TWR. But, how does that give you diminishing returns? Is there any way you could break past that? As in, why is it that the mass of it always wins out(in the end) over thrust? What would it take to add "moar boosters" without losing the effectiveness of them? Also, I still don't quite understand all of this, so actually Explain Like I'm 5, please... XD Thank you for the help though, I'm starting to understand a little bit better!
-
Ok, cool, so... ELI5? I did notice that SRBs produced much less dV, but the main point is that, as I will elaborate on in the experiment, if I have 1 flea booster with x TWR and x dV, and I slap 2 more, why don't my TWR and dV triple? Obviously I didn't think that it would, but I'm curious as to why it didn't.

So, it's kind of, like I said, a problem of diminishing returns where, when you add more engines to carry your payload, you need more fuel. And to lift that fuel, you need more engines, and you need fuel for those engines. So, my understanding of this names weight as the culprit. Thus, with a lighter fuel and higher thrust, such as an SRB, does that negate the concept of diminishing returns? I plan on making another post to test this out in KSP, but I want to get the discussion going while I'm working on it. Thanks for your help! -Slab

Haha, well, like I said I'm not good at pulling these things off, and by the way I did forget to say that he believed it, but yeah it wasn't that funny, whatever. No need to keep bringing it up. -

I really don't know either... I had been waiting a long time to mess with my friend and I'm not very good at it, so I was kinda proud of pulling that off. As far as the confusion, I assume you mean with copy/paste. I tried to convince him by copy/pasting what I "saw" and took out me actually saying hi, but it took longer to find that line and take it out. So, he kinda figured that out and copy/pasted what he saw to show me how long it took, which I knew already. I guess it's not that funny, I just thought it was because I'm not good at this and I was, like I said, kinda proud of the fact that I pulled it off, and, I don't... really have anywhere else to share this... XD I realize now it's kinda pointless, but whatever. - - - Updated - - - Went back and made it a bit more concise, sorry for the confusion -

UPDATE: I tried again and... pulled it off? Am I good or is he gullible? SlabGizor117: BOO soddd101: ... SlabGizor117: what? soddd101: You said BOO SlabGizor117: wow again? soddd101: Or was that *Slab'sBrother*... SlabGizor117: soddd101: xD You just gotta take away the Ipad from him SlabGizor117: I forgot to change the password soddd101: Noice SlabGizor117: Don't tell him but I *pressed Enter on accident* SlabGizor117: crap SlabGizor117: I'm gonna change it back to 9847 again soddd101: lol he can see this SlabGizor117: XD SlabGizor117: lol soddd101: He can see this, remember? SlabGizor117: It was a joke soddd101: (I know, just kidding around) -
I've always enjoyed mind games and wished I could do it, but I'm not very good at it. I was pretty proud of myself for pulling this one off. SlabGizor117: Oh hey *RealName* soddd101: Yup? SlabGizor117: yup what? soddd101: You said oh hey *RealName* SlabGizor117: ._. SlabGizor117: No i didn't... soddd101: And I was saying, yes, what do you want? SlabGizor117: I never said anything soddd101: ...Yes you did, and you know it soddd101: ugh soddd101: Whatever SlabGizor117: no dude what the crap? soddd101: I know you did, and you know too SlabGizor117: I'll copy/psate it soddd101: You're just kidding with me SlabGizor117: paste* lol soddd101: I know you are soddd101: You're a terrible liar soddd101: It's not even hard So now I copy/paste "my side" of the story, excluding saying hi to him: SlabGizor117: "SlabGizor117: lol one thing I noticed after playing is that the best measurement of speed to put things into perspective for me now, is m/s XD SlabGizor117: not even mph (This was part of an earlier conversation, to show that there was nothing before him saying "Yup?") soddd101: Yup? SlabGizor117: yup what? soddd101: You said oh hey *RealName* SlabGizor117: ._. SlabGizor117: No i didn't... soddd101: And I was saying, yes, what do you want? SlabGizor117: I never said anything soddd101: ...Yes you did, and you know it soddd101: ugh soddd101: Whatever SlabGizor117: no dude what the crap? soddd101: I know you did, and you know too SlabGizor117: I'll copy/psate it soddd101: You're just kidding with me SlabGizor117: paste* lol" The conversation continues: soddd101: It's not even hard soddd101: to tell when you're lying SlabGizor117: How can you tell over text...? SlabGizor117: there's no way soddd101: Because since it took you that long to post that soddd101: you must have erased the message soddd101: ugh, this is stupid SlabGizor117: Dude I don't know how to prove it but I didn't say it soddd101: Here SlabGizor117: no dude copy/paste takes more than like two seconds So he proceeds to show me how long it takes to copy/paste the conversation: soddd101: *Edited out for length and confusion, he just copy/pasted it back to show how little time it took to do so compared to me having to edit out where I actually said hi.* Back to the conversation: SlabGizor117: you have to highlight everything, right click, copy, go back to the chat box, right click, paste soddd101: See? ugh SlabGizor117: Well yeah it would show up on yours, how would you know to respond? SlabGizor117: oh SlabGizor117: wait SlabGizor117: I think I know what it is soddd101: This is getting really annoying SlabGizor117: *Slab'sBrother* is messing with my iPad, he might've done it soddd101: Ugh maybe soddd101: Whatever SlabGizor117: here I'll go ask him SlabGizor117: lol he said he was SlabGizor117: Now I have to change my password though... soddd101: xD SlabGizor117: I hate it when they do that crap soddd101: I bet soddd101: I wonder why he said that tho SlabGizor117: what? SlabGizor117: said what? That he did it? soddd101: "I hate when they do that crap" soddd101: You just said that SlabGizor117: Oh I see So I wasn't sure what to say after that to keep it going, but I'd love to try this again. Let me know if you have any ideas on what to say, although it's been a good while since we talked. Also, if you have any other funny ideas to mess with him, let me know. Hope you enjoyed! -Slab

My new "Roleplay-ey" KSP Save with first launch!
SlabGizor117 replied to SlabGizor117's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
That's awesome, I'd love to see more! -
As the Kerbal Space Program's Dawn Program kicks into full swing, the next rocket, carrying the Clark Probe is launched! The first launch explains also why I don't prefer to embed my albums, here's the link: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/122965-My-new-Roleplay-ey-KSP-Save-with-first-launch%21 Here's the Imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/VlGQP Hope you enjoyed! I'll probably make a parent thread with a link to each mission as I do it. -Slab

So, I love doing realistic space programs taking baby steps with suborbital flights and then orbits, etc. So, since I'm too much of a lazy whiner to commit to career or.. even science mode.... I did sandbox! So here is my first unmanned flight, in the Dawn program. While embedding would be more convenient, it doesn't work well in my opinion. It's not very clean, and the pictures are small, so I'm just going to link it. Sorry if it's annoying! http://imgur.com/a/JlTlt Thank you for viewing! -Slab -
I've seen in gifs and videos of overheating where each part has a little green to red colored bar that fills up as that part overheats until it explodes. How do I turn that on? All I can find in the debug menu is the one that turns all the parts orange, and then as they heat up, yellow. Thanks for the help! -Slab

Bulky and unruly payloads
SlabGizor117 replied to Kerr_'s topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yeah, fairings are the way to go. As far as getting them to the Mun or Minmus, I've found what helps me is to make one part and kinda "step back and take a look". With most medium 2.5m size things, something I would expect a base to be made out of, I've found that a half size 2.5m tank(half of an orange tank) and a skipper has plenty of Delta-V, and more than enough TWR to get the burn done reasonably fast. Then, I would make a fairing around it, and now you step back again and say, "I need to get this to Low Kerbin Orbit. What's the best way to do that without overengineering my rocket?" For rockets this size, I usually use a Delta-IV Heavy style of rocket, with a bunch of orange tanks and mainsails. Normally I asparagus stage the radial boosters, and it works really well for me. Have fun! -Slab -
I'm also an interplanetary noob, but here's what I did: I started with an orbiter probe, just to get practice for interplanetary transfers. It was just a core, SAS, Power stuff, a bunch of jet fuel, and a nuke. I had two core jet fuel tanks, and 4 jettison-able tanks, and I made it to Duna without even having to get rid of one. Now, since it also has a docking port, it's sitting in Duna orbit as a refueler. What I would suggest is an Apollo mission, but if you don't have much practice like me, then send your CSM equivalent(return stage, basically) but with more fuel. Get that in Duna orbit, then send your lander module seperately so you don't have as much to push with one little nuke(I forgot to say, for me, nukes are the way to go). Then you don't have to worry about having enough Delta-V in one launch to get there and back, and it simplifies orbital lift stages. What I did, is, I'm planning a rover landing now, and so I got my transfer stage, and rover, descent stage, etc. and bundled it all up in a fairing, and said, "Ok, this is what I need to get into LKO." and it made it a lot simpler with guesswork of whether I had enough Delta-V, and it turns out I have more than enough!

Help with Dreamchaser
SlabGizor117 replied to ZentroCatson's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In case the CoL-CoM thing is confusing you as far as the physics of it, think about an arrow. All the feathers are in the back, which puts the center of lift in the back. The farther back the CoL is, the more stable the aircraft or rocket, or arrow, will be. The farther forward, it will be less stable, but more maneuverable. Like shooting an arrow with the feathers on the front, any deviation of the arrow's orientation from it's direction of motion, the feathers on the front will catch the air like a sail and flip it around. I don't know how the real Dreamchaser does it without an absurd amount of wings on it, but at least in KSP you're gonna have to do it that way. - - - Updated - - - Also, congrats on getting it to work! -
Thanks! I don't think it's a matter of misaligned gear, and I apologize for not having pictures, I didn't expect to need them. I'll try adding an extra set of gear, but I'm a bit restricted on the placement of them for CoM reasons. I'm working on a different craft now, but when I get back to it, I'll try adding more. If it doesn't work, I'll post pics and see if we can figure anything else out. Thank you! -Slab

It's kinda strange. I have the Medium Gear on a Mk 3 plane and when I brake, I will turn and my gear will catch on the ground, bend(for example, if I swerve to the left, my gear bends to the left), then skip off and catch again to the right, and bend again. It just skips to the side, kinda frustrating. Any ideas on what I could do? I can't strut the gear assembly... Also, if it makes any difference, My nose gear is the KAX heavy gear assembly. Thanks for the help! -Slab

Ahh, i remember all of that! XD I was pretty young when I went though, I would love to go again! Every single picture you posted I remember being there. It's too bad I was too young to appreciate it. Hope you had fun here! Did you get a chance to go to Disney while you were here? -Slab
