There is no need for excessive wings on Mk3 fuselages, this SSTO is my ultima ratio 72ton lifter with some additional lift from Mk2 engine nacelles, it does surprisingly look like the skylon, with a single small elevon at the rudder far back (makes a powerfull pitch lever!). It depends on many other things, if the plane goes up with little drag for example, and that CoL stays very near behind CoM all the time... And it does fly excellent when emptyed (no need for pumping around fuel or shutting/ opening tanks during flight):

nuclear rockets powered by hydrogen - What am I missing?
Mikki replied to Sresk's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Sidenote: Nerteas Atomic rocket mod works fine without KSPIE, the ships become rather large but the TWR ( and isp) of the both big engines in this mod is way better than anything stock. Its just the the huge tanksize that is missleading to assume they are not effective, i had pretty much the same impression as you by first installing Atomic rockets. I recently made a "medium size" modular interplanetary transfer tug with atomic rockets and to reuse it later for larger travels i simply attach more tanks with dockingports. The tanks need lots of electricity to prevent boiloff, put a small nuclear powergenerator from Nertea NFE into. His mods work fine, never had any issues really. -
I launched a new Duna mission: Atomic rockets with hydrogen, cheers @Nertea... Glad to have your amazing mods running so smooth! And then i docked in darkness the command module with a split landerframe to it, have to get up the lander itself still...

KEMAZ mobile launcher (Vals dad ICBM vehicle)
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
@RocketSquid Yes, but i suggest to leave the first two stages as they come, change anything on top the second stage, for making it properly flip you have lots of tweakables to give the right amount of inertia. Don`t forget to deplete the rocket from all liquid fuel before testing the flip action! Fuelup on site when its allready vertical. The rootpart is a small probe core at the truckfront, leave it as is -
Kind of a museum folder would be nice, i used to backup some creations separatly but remembering them just about their name is quite difficult, a museum/ archive building would be a nice addon to this game, however cleaning up there is another issue after gigs of craftfiles...

I shared a rocket launcher in the spacecraftexchange: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/146294-kemaz-mobile-launcher-vals-dad-icbm-vehicle/ Its mere fun! Launch your kerbals to orbit from anywhere!

Hi there, after a long summerbreak from tough work i took some more freetime and late at night i buildt this (read with voice of old russian doomsdayweapon commander ): KEMAZ mobile launcher Following mods are in use: KJR, Asteroid day, Stock bugfixmodules Download Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l0yrsjm0w34wnqw/KEMAZ mobile launcher.craft?dl=0 Tired of launching from the KSC launchpad? Don`t worry, Vals daddy took his ol` ICBM launch vehicle out of his backyardshack and gave it to Jeb and co for free!!! Val`s daddy is a silly old Kerbal now and lost his hair allready, but in his days he was a cool guy doing lot`s of crazy stuff in his backyard workshop, aside launching ICBMs daily to the other side of Kerbin. Good thing no Kerbals live there. Well, nuff said, here we go: What can it do? - It can carry a piggybacked rocket to any place you desire, the orbital rocket with a mk1 capsule has enough bang for 100x100km Kerbin orbit. DeltaV for deorbiting is still around then, which is good also. How does it work? - After lowering the gear you stage two times and the flipping mechanism rotates the still depleted rocket around two stock custom inbuildt hinges to vertical position. Solid rocket booster is full and acts as counterweight . It connects again at the trucks bottom end with a small dockingport, then you have to fuel up the miss rocket before you stage further. How do i launch? - After fueling up and kerbaling the capsule set the controls to it and stage, due to engineering issues you must engage SAS again after any further staging to orbit. Is it fun? - endlessly... Ask Val`s Dad . Eeerm... Mister... Daddy, is it fun? - hehe, true, you know big crater, da? Some impressive impressions... Okay, i wish you all a happy rocketlaunch from everywhere but the lauchpad!

I launched a rocket from the old KSC... I made a truck (...KEMAZ 8x8 Superduty... ), and a ICBM style launcher on a trailer and flew it to the island. The rocket is actually excellent, about two tons to low Kerbin orbit 100x100 with lots of dv left. The plane is a dummy with the same fuselage like a another laythe-spec SSTO, just for testing... Mk IV for STOCK!!!

Still, no offense to anyone posting here. I never claimed that actual GUT theory is wrong, btw. Read again?

Time to examine other models than pursuing Einsteins guesswork. Sorry. Dark matter and dark energy are actually still pure guesswork. Observed expansion of the (visible) universe can be a rather "local" small effect. Okay, taxfunds fuel science in many ways, but titles can`t save anyone from doing serious work. I strongly doubt when long time studied people declare "Heureka". But really no offense to anyone here posting: Einsteins idea of implementing a imaginary constant in his proposal was a pure shot in the dark, still. I am taxpayer and i have some experience in live, Doktors and Bankers never impressed me. Taxfunded theoretical science is prone to corruption aswell as any other "valuable" science. Example for out of the box thinking: A friend mentioned once that photons "may decay after a random time/distance travelled" (also guesswork, sure, like dark matter/energy), the fact that massless ("m-a-s-s-l-e-s-s") photons are affected double as much by gravity (from large "mass") than actual physics predicts and bend spacetime themself, still doesn`t fit somehow. Good to know energy and information need no "mass"... to be transferred. Sure? Who has ever observed photons travel infinitly in empty space as modern physics suggest claims? Me not. You? Imagine ridicilous gigantic empty intergalactic space and voids. Only content: a dozen hydrogen atoms loitering around per cubicmile and a ridicilous amount of photons from any direction, anytime, anywhere, ..."massless". How about exchanging "mass" and "gravity" with "elektromagnetism"? Like "massless" equals ... "oh, here is something wrong with the term itself..." Yes, shredding all the textbooks looks very unreasonable. Or not? Maybe photons do decay randomly to subatomic particles. Or there is unobservable matter and energy.

I really love it when the Kerbulans get punished for minor expressions of hilarity. This simply cries for rebellion... -*BZZZZZ*- ....... sic semper tyrannis..... -*BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ*-

"Orbiter" was kind a boring, no crews to sacri salvage and so...

@icedown Your challenge, your rules. I am still refurbishing my "Double Jumbo", getting the fuelload lower is rather tricky... next time with proper landing...

Single-Stage-To-Anywhere Challenge!
Mikki replied to Benji13's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hi @Benji13 Your challenge proposal sounds interesting but you might take a look at the challenge posting rules above, your idea is beefy enough for a good thread, and we wanna see your entry (or fail....) also... -
...ermmm, don`t forget to make a backup of your vanilla savegame, and then install CTT and all the mods... It might get very precious for you at some point.
-
@icedown Would be glad if you could separate your challenge into "Cargobay-planes" and "other"...

In my youth (long ago) i had once a very uncommon dream, goes like this: I remember flying with the body of a crowlike bird at night during fullmoon across a snowcovered but bright lit woodland far in the north, flying to the east, the moondisc at my right above the horizon. Only noise to hear was the wind running trough the wings, some 50 to 100 meters gliding above the treepeaks, watching some frozen lakes beneath passing by. After a while watching the landscape i descend to a group of trees aside a snowcovered lake or plane, taking a seat on a branch quite on top and keep glaring down the snowy plane direction west, the moondisc to the left now. My view turns to the north and - right aside me sat suddenly a big white owl starring right into my eyes from a very short distance so i could see the moondisc reflecting in it`s big blackblue eyes. I was deeply shocked ond woke up immediatly, it is the only dream i can remember as if it was a real part of my life, i am atheist btw, i have no weird thoughts about the issue. Dreams are weird. Yes, the "White owl" company did irritate me somehow as i noticed it...

vector launch instability
Mikki replied to CrashTestDanny's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Definetly too much gimbal, 2-3% should be sufficient to take care of a common rocket launch. The vectors high gimbal caps are made for being used as shuttle SSME (Space shuttle main engines)
