  1. Progress report! Today I did some more fumbling around, went back to an older version that worked ok, and it appears to work pretty well. For now I'm just draining the water with hyper edit, and activating pumps, but apparently some pumps aren't working, so water doesn't flush in, but it doesn't really go out. Now for the pictures! First two show the one I just tested, it seems to list back. However, I tried to mess with the rotation to try to prevent too much listing (there was about a 1degree tilt), but apparently this does not work well, as it soon the bow listed out of the water... Download for the ship (for you to play around with, remember that in 1.1 I'm pretty sure the paint won't work). 17B Iteration (the one I tested today, which is in the pictures) 17A, tested yesterday. 15B, the one 17B was derived, and had the best trials earlier.
  2. Yes! I have finally made it to the Rep Grand Group! (If I hadn't been so inactive I would have been here a month ago, but that's fine) . Also, an almost exactly 2:3 post to rep ratio.
  3. After some more *boring* days of toiling, I realized something i should have if I had not suffered such a amazing streak of tunnel vision, I should have realized: the pumps on the ship were not really working to keep the water out, since many of the pumps to keep water out were on the action group 1, not stage for some reason. This would explain the slowly shifting balance of the ship (front to back) to some extent, but not left to right motion, which takes hold several minutes later, unless the places where water filled were uneven, which certainly explains the inconsistent balance, even though the ships were fundamentally the same. unfortunately, all the work that had given some balance to the ship for several minutes is undone, with the ship having tendencies to nosedive or lean back by 20 degrees. I have slapped a buoyant dockyard part, but its effect is not really known. To counteract the bit of over buoyancy and the problems with the ship plunging back/forward, I added a medium Keel part. I haven't had the time to really try balancing, so I will not know the result for a while. I will try to get a download for you all to also tinker with. In the mean time, here are pictures! (Sorry for the ugly water, I'm stuck in 1.0.5 because of kerbpaints unworkability in 1.1, and the ocean keeps disappearing once KSP uses a bunch of RAM.
  4. It's a sea going ship, but I think it might be the biggest in the thread...* HMS Hood! 262 Meters in length and weighing if I remember correctly, 70K tons or so? The German Bismarck might actually be a bit wider though, and Prinz Eugen has a part count record of over 1100 parts *Actually, the biggest thing** I've ever made is actually the HUUGE Asteroid in the currently hiatus The Asteroid Sentinels, at over 300 meters in basically all dimensions, and weighing 40 or so MILLION tons... It was a welding job though. And I don't know if it counts as a ship.... ** With that said, I made a TARDIS, and that must surely be bigger on the inside!
  5. Ah, haven't been on the forum for a while, looks like I missed quite a bit! Almost at Jool!
  6. Still balancing Prince Of Wales. Now on my 13th iteration, i've managed to get iterations like 12B and 10/11 to work, but they have a unfortunate tendency to lean back, though they go up to 5 mins without listing much. The last picture shows the balance part. I'm not sure how exactly a 200 ton piece affects the balance of a 60K ton vessel, but somehow it works in such a manner. The 1st picture shows how bad/good the list is, i'm wondering if I should give up balancing. Any input from you all?
  7. HMS Prince Of Wales is much more stable, but it lists badly. If I move the "balance part" to compensate for it, somehow the ship lists forward/backwards!
  8. School is almost over. I plan for now to wait and see if @Azimech can try and get the two working together, or I could try to see what I could do. Prince Of Wales was made with RealShips because it had just come out, and there were quite a few new features. Thanks for the Bf 109.
  9. I think RealShips succeeded WW2Warships, and I think it was something with the part ID's that screwed things up. I probably will start filming the Norway scenes once Prince Of Wales is partly fixed. Unfourtunatly QuickTime is probably going to be what I film with.
  10. Kerbapint does work in 1.0.5, so I thankfully was able to paint Prince Of Wales, but since it used Realships and Hood used WW2 Warships, they can't sail together, meaning that Prince Of Wales retreating is the only real scene I can do, which complicates any filming. Like you suggested, Greenscreen could work, but I probably won't use that. I'll see what i can do, but like in earlier photos Prince of Wales continues to suffer from listing so bad parts of the deck go under after a couple minutes.
  11. Hmm, I'm stuck in a bit of a rut here. Once I finish the Prince Of Wales, I've pretty much run out of things to do, and considering the fact that Kerbpaint won't be updated immediately (though I haven't tried it in 1.1.2, since I'm on 1.1) and also how Realships refuses to work with WW2 Warships, I don't know what to do. Do any of you have any ideas for what to do from here? I could try to do the German scenes, but KSP 1.0.5 is almost assured to crash once things get going.
  12. I got HMS Prince Of Wales to work in 1.0.5, now I have given the ship paint, and I've reduced the part count to around 680 parts!
  13. Flying @kapteenipirk Spitfire around Norway (not) I can say that I probably will use @FlamoutAllAround Fjord for the Norway bit.
  14. @AzimechIs there a way to get both this mod and WW2 Warships to work together? Because in both 1.0.5 and 1.1 one mod or the other refuses to work.
  15. I've benn making some prop shells for my Bismarck and Prinz Eugen. They work pretty well at ~Mach 2, but require oversized booster oversized from behind to "fly", because for some reason they have ridiculous amounts of drag that I can't explain, not even the oversized booster.
  16. I have "perfected" the sinking of the HMS Hood... Next goal:Getting Prince Of Wales/Realships to run together with WW2 Warships in 1.0.5.
  17. Here's the HMS Hood with less parts, down to 740, taking out 150 parts. I will take out a couple more before the final combat version. Today is the 75th Anniversary Of The Battle Of The Denmark Strait. The HMS Hood was sunk, the Prince Of Wales damaged, and the Bismarck also damaged.
  18. I've gotten the lower part Bismarck working at 730 parts, a point where I could have lower part count and still have great detail. HMS Hood is next.
  19. Hi! I have finally made it! @pTrevTrevs
  20. @FlamoutAllAroundGreat! Going to go check them out. Progress report: got Prinz Eugen to about 900 parts, a ~220 part reduction. My goal is to get Bismarck down to 700. In general a 200 part reduction for all ships.
  21. I'm currently working on reducing part count for German ships, I was doing so for the Bismarck (because the low part version I felt took too much detail away), and got it to 750 parts, but then the craft got messed up, so I'll try again, but I'll also be reducing Prinz Eugen's part count. I also tested the Swordfish, and the torpedo against the Prince Of Wales, though sadly it did not cause much damage. I'll try to get Prinz Eugen to 750-800 parts so I can have a mildly "saner" part count of 1500.
  22. @Columbia Haven't tried Prince Of Wales in 1.0.5, I'm having trouble getting WW2Warships and Realships to work together. As for the camouflage, Norway had the camouflage. I'll try to weld some small bits of the ships to drive part count down, if it doesn't work I'll just go and do the "find and destroy way" of part reduction. There is also a discrepancy between Structural Panel and Deck plating colors by default... @kapteenipirk My planned release dates are about as cautiously optimistic as possible, so I might have a couple gifs by May 24th, the date of the battle, but nothing much. (Attempts at being pessimistic do not bode well). That said, Sinking Of Repulse and Prince Of Wales should be mildly more doable... The Battle Of The Denmark Strait is a really long term project especially.
