Need help composing a working RO + RSS mod-list
Nightside replied to Agen0's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Welcome to the Forums @Agen0 Keep it simple. I would recommend using the FEWEST extra mods possible, rather than downloading everything with an RO config and hoping that it all works as expected. In my experience, too many parts in the VAB is worse than too few because I spend so much time searching for this and that perfect thing, rather than just coming with a creative solution. Additionally, the In fact, before you even start the game, make a few decisions on what type of rockets you want to make. US or Russian replicas? Your own creations? Do you want to build with 1960s tech, modern tech or speculative futuristic tech? Now download one or two parts packs (supported by RO) that will give you the basic parts to build. If you are building replicas then you can actually check that what you are building makes sense thrust and weight-wise. If you are using Mechjeb, make sure that the body you are calculation TWR for is Earth. You can change it so that you can calculate TWR landing on the Moon, for example, but if you don't change it back it will have very different TWR when launching on Earth. If that is not the problem, you may have some other issue. -

Smurff is definitely what you want.

It seems like nothing happened. I wasn’t sure if it was a problem with my configs being out of date

Looking for Mod: Tone down reentry effects
Nightside replied to ebigunso's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Sorry, that was a little brief. Those two lines come from the physics.cfg file (in the first few lines). You can alter them manually, or if you have module manager installed you can copy/past my lines above into a config file in your GameData folder. Let me know if it gets the results you are after. -

@aeroFXStartThermalFX = 4 //2.5 // Speed in mach when aeroFX starts changing from white to orange @aeroFXFullThermalFX = 6 //3.75 // Speed in mach when aeroFX is fully orange Maybe this? Mess with those numbers as needed. -
Kerbal Konstructs works great in 1.4.5. It was a due to a problem created by Squad in 1.4.4 and promptly fixed in 1.4.5 so no update needed.

Well, if you want to have your cake and eat it too, you might consider baking your own.

TRANSMOGRIFIER - Real-size rockets - stockalike gameplay (ρ)
Nightside replied to Nightside's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
This project has been on the back burner for awhile. I was finishing up my second bachelor's degree and started up a new job right away. I'm curious if people are interested in a light-weight "Actual-size" mod. I am considering rebooting this with the goal of creating a way to play real-sized spaceships with realistic stats without all of the complex dependencies of the Real* Mod Universe. Now that Kopernicus is back in business I'm just waiting for the latest Sigma Dimensions to give this a try. The main function of this mod would resize part models to 1.6x stock size, and resize - capacities of tanks and thrust of engines. Most of this was functionally possible with this mod before I took a break from KSP, the main change would be focusing on realistic sizing and performance without changing the stock game's "Just launch it and see what happens" play-style. The dependencies would simply be: - Module Manager - SMURFF - for making realistic TWR and weights for engines, tanks, etc - Kopernicus --- Sigma Dimensions and any stock-alike system with a 10x resize config. Any suggestions? -
Works well enough on my 5 year old intel chip, though I wouldn't say KSP itself runs entirely with out lag. Try it out! - though you might have to restrain yourself in other mods that are computation heavy.

Types of Clouds and Weather [meteorology] [cratercrap]
Nightside replied to cratercracker's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It is certainly possible to test for strength and other material properties of homogeneous soils - however a big part of the challenge of geotechnical engineering is extrapolating what is known about the soil in one, well tested location, across a large site or larger area such as a highway or utilities pipelines. I just graduated with a degree in civil engineering- if you have any geotechnical specific questions maybe ping me in a new thread and see if I learned anything useful. -

What's the deal with the crazy twisty roads NE of the shuttle landing strip at the KSC? https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?hl=en&t=h&msa=0&z=14&ie=UTF8&mid=1VAskaWnNfx1r5UrYzvlRwq3vsfY&ll=28.610074555227815%2C-80.64845824555664 -
I got tired of generic terrain and figured out how to import real elevation maps into the game (using Kerbal Konstructs). Approaching Mt. Hood from the north. Round the mountain. Over the hills. By the shore. Mountain top magic hour selfie.

[1.12] KSP-RO - Realism Overhaul [16 May 2022]
Nightside replied to Theysen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
SSTU is a really great mod, however it is a work-in-progress and contains many custom modules that the author changes from time to time. What this means is that configs like these may break, and need to be rewritten when something in the mod changes. If no one else has working configs, your best bet is to learn how to do it yourself (and then share with the community).- 2,215 replies
