  1. I developed an aircraft capable of being stable up to and past mach 3 with no control surfaces, or vertical wings of any kind, and I figured out why. The shock of the air hitting the strait wings behind the swept ones essentially balances out the nose every time it starts to waver off to one side. It uses thrust vectoring to maneuver, and it can hit mach 3.06 at altitude. Should I put it up for download? If so, I need a name. (To prevent it from waving from side to side, I had to put the fly by wire system in, but it is still stable without it)
  2. Probably, but it's 40% stronger, because if it wasn't, it wouldn't be worth using on anything, since the atmosphere is quite thick down low.
  3. The engine was actually run, and managed 11 Kn when sitting still, and 10.5 in flight. The B variant had 2 built, and produced 13 Kn (roughly) sitting still, and 12.01 in flight. The He-162 used the Bmw-003E, 7.83 Kn The Me-262 used the Jumo 004B, 8.8 Kn The most powerful one conceived at the time was the Bmw-018, at 34.3 Kn. No Bmw-018 engines were completed, but the SNECMA ATAR is an almost exact replica, with industrial grade parts rather than crude hand milled and welded parts, and it produced 58.9Kn. The SNECMA ATAR / BMW-018 were both roughly the same size as the Juno, which is essentially a verbalized Jumo 004. (I accounted for Kerbal - Real life measurements). So if the Juno was realistic, at best it could produce 58.9 Kn in real life, and scaled down to Kerbin Scale, it would be 82.46 Kn. Most of the engines ingame are not as powerful as their real life counterparts, or are as powerful, or more powerful, it isn't really scaled well, but the Juno is a little underpowered compared to jet engines of the same size, and made in 1948. I am extremely educated in the history of jet engines, and aircraft Thanks for giving me the idea of scaling the Juno's thrust down though, but it's 40% more powerful than the Jumo 004, because the size of the game is 40% smaller, and they need to account for that.

  7. Ahhh, well, sadly I cannot seem to get my aircraft past mach 4.9 - 5.5 range because I am not designing my aircraft efficiently, but rather in style... My old craft were designed quite efficently on the other hand, so yeah, I don't think they count, but hey, it is what it is right? Also, you may consider adding a radiator or something for your aircraft to go even faster.

After testing, I noticed even with custom configs, the Turbo ramjet is not superior to the RAPIER, even at low altitudes, and other various times, so the best engine for this challenge is the RAPIER by far. No modded config is going to help unless you increase thrust, velocity / atmospheric curves, or in other words, cheat. So modded config entries for 1.0+ shouldn't be counted.
  9. So the custom configs for the rapier in update 1.1.3 will be interesting. As seen below, it has no mach heat limit, it says so in the coding. However, it has an atmospheric, and velocity curve. So the faster you go, the less effective it will be due to the heat of the air coming into the intake.   11. If you read the histories of the aircraft down when I am finished, you will see an alternate Kerbal history starting from the rise and fall of the war on kerbin, and then the rise and fall of the Kold War, when it's finished of course.
  12. 1.0.4 for the 3000 m/s one, with a modded config to allow the rapiers to beat the speed limit cutoff that was there, I am currently working on new configs, I'll be lazy though so don't expect much from me, I'm on my phone right now.

Due to the new technologies known as Atom Bombs, the two countries have broken out into a full on race to see who can develop the best technologies faster, so the Heinkel Kompany was split into Russian Kommand, and Heinkel. These kompanies will endure for a long time, and be developing lot's of different fighters, however, Russian Kommand will not be making any progress in the aero industry, as they are working towards the goal of space exploration, where Amerika is working towards better aircraft technologies, the space race will be lead by Koviets early on it seems. https://kerbalx.com/He_162/He4 He5 Experimental Mach 2 capable turbojet Heinkel was developing a new engine capable of much higher thrusts when needed, and better fuel efficiency when not needed, and came up with the afterburner, a revolutionary way to waste more fuel.   15. I use the Kerbal Engineer mach reading, and post my m/s top speed. I'm waiting for someone to beat my 3000 m/s top speed...
  16. I agree completely, or I could simply release the edited configs that aren't limited to a specific top speed, so that all of them are allowed. I got a aircraft to get an intercept with the mun whilst still in the atmosphere a while back with modded configs, if that counts. It used rapiers with modded textures to look better, and a mod's intakes which produced the same amount of drag as if I put side mounted intakes to get the same airflow, so it wasn't OP either. Top speed was roughly 3000 m/s I think. Here was my other previous attempt with unrestricted modded configs. It also had a pork-alike rapier, which has the same stats as the usual rapier + my modded config so that it didn't just stop working at mach 5.75. Top speed, 3071.8 m/s (give or take 10 m/s for dive / climb speeds) Then if you wanna be really crazy I got an aircraft with a rapier (with an OP modded config to allow full thrust at 65,000m, so it isn't valid) I have this thing... 7,204 m/s top speed, which is considered high hypersonic - ultra hypersonic (re entry speeds)
  17. If you guys wanna go fast, and not worry about overheating issues, just use fairings, and high heat tolerance parts, and put the fuel tanks and engines behind a fairing cover. Now if you want the best vehicle for this submission, you gotta balance some things. Get JUST the right amount of air intakes, because they each have a certain amount of air they will bring in a second, and your engine needs a specific amount per second to operate at it's best. So to get your engine operating the best with the least drag means you must only use as many air intakes as is needed, to prevent unneeded drag. Then you must have a low drag vehicle, so very little wing surfaces. This means you need something to turn the vehicle that is heat tolerant, like these nice little 2400k tolerant wing canards. The Kerbal is placed in the little openable storage container that has a super high K tolerance. I put a drone core, and couple SAS units with some batteries and RTG's in the nose to counter the engines weight, and allow more stability. I then placed the winglets so that at mach 6 the center of lift would be right behind the center of mass, but still stable. So now I have a mach 5.75 capable aircraft, I will be doing more tests with this kind of vehicle, so expect test results later!

  19. Settle down guys, Herbal was being rude, that should be the end of it. Now back to having a tasteful conversation. Are we allowed to modify an engines config to allow it to work past the speed limit the jet engines have in-game, basically allowing much greater speeds (excess of mach 21)?
  20. I can get an aircraft to mach 1.5 in those Juno's, but I need a few procedural parts mods for a light fuselage, and custom cockpit made with tweakscale. Other than that, I could most easily get something to 300 - 320 m/s with supermaneuverability, and good acceleration with just the stock game.
  21. The highest speed achievable in the atmosphere will be the same for everyone unless disabling thermal is allowed for the entry.
