  1. I like the design. It'll be cool to see what you come up with for the later stages...
  2. Right now, nothing. Once 1.1 releases though...
  3. 1984 is fantastic, if horrifically depressing, and I'll be the next to corroborate the recommendation of Fahrenheit 451. C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy is pretty deep and philosophical, but it's a good read. I don't think All Quiet on the Western Front has been recommended yet, so I'll do that now. Again, pretty heavy, but terrifically written.
  4. The proper line ends: "With Major Major it had been [emphasis mine] all three." It's a sad day when I misquote things. Or not. Whichever.
  5. The quote that springs most readily to mind (mostly because it's the least contextually sensitive) is: "Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them. With Major Major, it had been all three." It took me slightly by surprise just how constantly funny Catch 22 is. I can definitely see myself re-reading it.
  6. I've been reading Dune, and I just finished reading the Martian. I'm also reading Catch 22. I can recommend all three.
  7. If you find it half as confusing as I do, then I've done my job
  8. Something I wrote got pinned! I'm slightly confused why, but I'm also really honored and excited and a little confused. I already said confused, didn't I? Anyway, I thought I'd share it.
  9. Awesome. You don't quite get all the glory because you used hyperedit, but the scale, scope, and theme of the mission makes up for that well enough. Basically: Shame on you, but also, very well done. You're going on the Board of Crusaders. DBowman's Score: One Fourty-Eight man manned mission.
  10. Well this was a pleasant surprise with an emphasis on surprise. I'm frankly not sure what to say. Muffins.
  11. I went into the list of Lounge posts today and found that my thread was pinned. Huh. Wow. Here's a short holdover chapter: Interim “Control?” “Yes, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker?” “No, not you, Home. Shut up.” “What can I do for you, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker?” “Shut up.” “What can I do for you, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker?” “Shut up. Control? Do you read?” “What can I do for you, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker?” “Radio control, please.” “Alright, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker. I’ll radio control for you. I’ll need authorization first.” “This is Captain Cypris. Control? Do you read?” “Please use your full name, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker. Your full name is: Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker.” “I’m going to kill you when this is over.” Cypris said. “This is Captain Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker, calling control from Home Station. Control, do you read?” “We read you.” Griggs said. “What’s your situation Captain Cypris.” Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker turned to the wall. “See, Home? The heartless bureaucrat knows my proper title.” “Copy that?” “Nothing. Control, we are aboard Home Station, which we will be using to rendezvous with the asteroid. Any objections?” “None you’ll pay attention to.” Griggs said, in a display of something that might have been misinterpreted as sarcasm or weariness. It wasn’t; it was just a statement of facts. There were roughly 463 A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Codes of conduct that Cypris had broken simply by stepping onto the station. There were exactly four times that number forbidding her from flying a station to redirect an asteroid. Cypris was perfectly willing to disregard 1,852 of those codes, which is to say, all of them.
  12. Wow. Very nicely done. That's a crazy long ship you've got there. EvermoreAlpaca's Score: 60,253 credits worth of profit.
  13. This was one of the quirks of the new aerodynamics system. It's more realistic than accelerate to 10,000 meters then turn right, but it takes some getting used to. When rockets are flying at high speed, almost any adjustment will send them spinning out. Reaction Wheels can counter some of the movement, but fins are best. Flying slightly slower can help as well, especially if your rocket isn't perfectly aerodynamic. The post that FullMetalMachinist referenced explains it very well.
  14. Do you mind if I use these for my Munar Crusade submission which still requires expansion? I can't seem to build a VTOL lander of my own, and I think It'd be cool to start a sort of compilation entry.
  15. I didn't use to play career. Sandbox is plenty difficult without limitations like money and science and unlocked parts. I started a career game recently though, and I've had fun with it, mostly only because it gives a point to the science parts, which are very cool, and add another layer of planning to an otherwise simple mission: "Go here, land here, go home." Having to build up to bigger missions is nice too. That said, of the 350 odd hours I've played, perhaps 10 of them have been in career.
  16. The aerodynamics overhaul made flying rockets slightly harder initially, but much more fun in the long run. Having a rebalance to jet engines was nice, and the new IVAs are great. 1.0 added a bunch of new systems and tweaked old ones, and pretty much unanimously for the better. I can see how you're feeling overwhelmed; I was playing KSP up to the day 1.0 launched, and it took a while before I was entirly used to the changes. Oh. I almost forgot: Water doesn't kill you now, and it's awesome. Mining is really cool. I haven't used it much though; I've been too distracted by 1.0.5's changes to plane parts. I'm only finally getting back into rockets.
  17. Fall in the mountains. Spring in the desert. I can't stand art galleries. Apparently.
  18. At the very least you'd have to ask for the author's express personal permission. Simply crediting someone isn't necessarily enough, unless specified explicitly on the artwork that it's public domain and you can use it just so long as you credit them. In general, I'd stay as far away from intellectual property infringements as possible. I'm not sure how well a graphic novel based on fanart would work besides; you'd have to tailor the dialogue and prose to match the imagery, and it could limit what you'd be able to do with the writing. It might not be a problem, but it's something to bear in mind. Sounds like a cool idea otherwise.
  19. Well, I did botch a few of the landings... Otherwise though, they worked pretty well. I've actually landed 2 more ships since the last post, and they both came down nice as can be. The one difficulty was figuring out the yaw and pitch when I wanted to maneuver to a better landing site. I wasn't terribly careful about my landing sites, and I came down in a few really nasty craters.
  20. I think you just described Kerbals, but I'm not quite sure... More research is required.
  21. XCOM: Enemy Within. And after February 5, XCOM 2. I enjoy playing Star Wars Battlefront and Just Cause 3, too, though.
  22. I'm only a slightly obsessive writer. The next chapter is done. Here's the link and excerpt, as usual: Home "Occasionally, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker realized just how talented and skilled and brilliant her cremates were, and she realized how much less talented and skilled and brilliant she was by comparison. Slightly after her second revelation, Cypris Maricela Alta Cranford-Tracker would have a third thought: Her cremates were very smart, and none of them were married. Marriage apparently, was only for idiots. And journalists, she sometimes added. " Let me know what you think!
  23. Staging is evil, and is not to be trusted. Parachutes are grouped with decouplers by default (because it was the correct configuration pre-1.0), so be wary. On the lines of your decoupler failures...it happens sometimes. Staging again, though I'm not sure how to avoid it.
  24. Huh. And there was me thinking only the military had restrictions regarding facial hair...
  25. Welcome aboard! I'm still new to the forums as well. I made an account because I had some questions about Duna that other threads couldn't answer, and I was immediately swamped with tips and advice. The moral of the story? This is an excellent community you've thrown yourself in with.
