  1. Set some goals. For me at first, getting to Duna and back was it. Since I play in a Science campaign mostly I needed to get to orbit, go to Kerbin's moons and collect science. Then learn to build bigger rockets, sending probes and rovers. And then finally a Kerbal'ed mission. You don't need to have detailed plans, in fact your plans will not survive contact with the actual mission. Learning to adapt with what you have is the best skill to learn in this game. But I still derp around randomly too. You can accidentally come up with some useful stuff that way.
  2. The Jool expedition moves to Bop. The science lander and service module arrives with the miner lander en route. Magienna is no longer a rookie with her first landing Next the expedition moves to Pol. The miner arrives to meet up with the rest of the group And Bob gets the call for the last landing of the expedition. And gets it done All five of Jool's moons now have a flag for the first time in any of my games. Now it is time to bring the Kerbals home.
  3. I have Flash disabled by default in chrome and I only enable it on a case by case basis. This stops a lot of stuff but it is a pain sometimes. For example, if you have to apply to a job posting online and you get sent to several different webs sites as a part of the application process. Other than that I use MS Windows Defender and try to be careful about clicking on stuff. And if I get something, I run the free Malwarebytes.
  4. I have had a miner on Val, with 2 drills down and running, slide down hill for 2 KM recently.
  5. I have had some recent experience with the inflatable heat shield on Laythe. The faster you go the bigger your chances are for the shield to overcome control (SAS for me) and once it flips it will keep tumbling. And then you won't get control back until you get some drag (in my case open parachutes) behind it. The benefit was that it induced a lot of drag and I bleed off speed really fast while tumbling.
  6. I haven't seen a way around it. I use the rotate tool on the leg to get it into position myself. Oh you can use them and I still so. But every slope over 20 deg is covered in grease and the warranty is void (causing the leg to explode) if anything but the ground touches them.
  7. A picture I found on the internet of a motorcycle that was made to look like a 1930's style rocket ship. Or bomb, take your pick. I like to think that it is what Jeb rides when he isn't flying in something.
  8. Jeb is given the go for my first Tylo landing And HOLLY MOLLY that's hard to do! I tried the fuel efficient last minute suicide burn trick but didn't have the reflexes for the last 500m throttle adjustments I kept pogoing (and skimming too low and hitting hills). So I finally did a stop and drop, that kept ending up using all the fuel in the decent stage at about 10 meters off the ground. Thankfully I got one to stay upright. Now that I have "Tylo landing" crossed off the bucket list, I don't think I'm coming back anytime soon.
  9. Launched the "Rescue Val" After adventures in re-entry for the return vehicle Val trudges to landing site (surprisingly only 4.5 KM away) carrying the science. And yeah didn't want those landing legs anyway. (note, never set up staging sequences after visiting the bar) But all was good, Val EVA'ed to the Service Module from the rescue lander and brought back the science too.
  10. Val goes to Laythe And lands successfully And enjoys the view.... For the next 3 years waiting for a lander that has enough D/V to return to orbit as the lander designer forgot to pack enough in the first one.
  11. Bill gets into the mining ship around Val Clinches up for the suicide burn to land And lands it successfully. I then find out this design has very poor efficiency and will require multiple trips to refuel a tanker. Instead of going full kerbal maybe I should have tested it first.
  12. Even without looking up where biomes are or using a mod, on Minmus you can land at the edge of one of the flats and send a Kerbal using RCS to several biomes from there. That will just get you a surface sample and EVA report for each but it has a small d/v foot print and can be done early on in the tech tree. If playing in contract mode though you will need the buildings upgraded for EVA and without EVA a hopper is the best route.
  13. I just saw this on netflix and it is a pretty nice biography of Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 astronaut. Thoughtful and a very human treatment of the subject matter.
  14. I got it and it is better than Vista and 8 but you do have to disable all the tracking crap. And as others have mentioned they are trying to force it on people if you have another version of windows. I have had friends who are not computer savvy get on their machines. Hint do not install optional updates in win 7 or you can Google keeping win 10 off your machine. One of the war gaming forums I visit mentioned apps to keep it off and remove the install files that are apart of the "optional updates" you can get with win 7.
  15. All the assorted landing craft and the tanker arrived at Jool and I found out that juggling 4 ships in flight around Jool was .. Exciting. But every thing is there and now I need to scrounge up fuel from all the the landing craft and put it in the tanker to transfer the fuel to the the miner so it can land and make more fuel. Not in the plan but this is still doable. (And had a visit from the decaying orbit bug that kept pushing the lander for Tylo into Jool but reloading the game cured it. For now) Mean while the expedition crew arrived at Val.
  16. Launched the last of a convoy of ships to Jool It is the expedition crew for my first Jool 5 attempt. It is getting crowed in space now
  17. Shadow play, it came with my video card and I just fart around with it really. Only for capture not streaming. I don't stream if I did I would look into OBS because I like free.
  18. Practiced aero braking at Jool With mixed results. (F5 and F9 turned out to be my friends)
  19. Sent probes to Jool and its moons The Expedition on Duna left And made it back safely to Kerbin
  20. I've only gone to Duna. In fact I don't farm Minmus or the Mun for science, I farm Duna for science. The game then gets updated so I start over before getting any where else. I will say that with out a d/v map found out of game or mech jeb for a d/v readout in the VAB and the node editor I would have never tried.
  21. I had the same thing happen yesterday. I had 3 other legs and the lander didn't tip so I was able to complete the mission but the expedition had to wait for a new lander to be delivered. It's strange how the landing legs that can support a multi-ton vehicle just blow up when you brush them with your sleeve.
  22. Shouldn't that a be a part of the Kerbal Olympics ?
  23. I was just jumping off and brushed it on the way down
  24. Alastair Reynolds - Revelation Space series Richard K Morgan - Altered Carbon series Stephen Baxter - anything
  25. Mine are very much like yours. And when landing legs were messed up I built this for an Eve landing
