I have done single burns to eject from Kerbin SOI around 4-5 minutes long and that means 2.5 to 3 minutes ether side of the node which is doable in one go. Anything longer you will need to do multiple burns over a long time. It depends on the mass you are pushing.

You could use RCS or Verniers to provide control. But launching straight up will always work with enough fuel.

I went and rescued Ted. No frills, just an empty capsule with a parachute. And got pretty close to KSC . At least for me.

I was looking in my screenshot file and realized it was over 5 Gigs in size with my first one from 2016. Needless to say I have done some curating for the first time and have cleaned it up. I got to wondering how many others kept all their screen shots and when was that enabled in the game. I came on board about 0.9 and I'm sure that others playing longer would have many more.

Yes to the using dumb bombs, the first time I used this on a contract it was at the Mun and I released and guided everyone of the impactors. That was time consuming. When I used it on a contact at Minmus I just de-orbited the bus from a a 50 KM altitude to hit near the sensor and then hit the space bar to stage everything. Basically a giant shotgun shell of unguided imactors and the bus. Like you the scientist placing the sensor the was a level one and I found that hitting within 3-4 KM with most of the impactors got more than enough science to fulfill the contract.

Put a rover on Eve and was reminded how dark it is there:

I play one save. The others I have are because I'm too lazy to delete an old save.

Ok. Every body it is possible to land on I've returned from.
-
Landed and returned from every body in stock.

I forgot how blasted difficult this game was/is!

If it is a contract saying, for example,"transmit 67% of science from X with an complex scanning arm" you need to do the scan and transmit it. You will find that the first scan for a complex scanning arm (looking at the pop up window) if transmitted, will yield 67% of the science. Another contract I've had is " collect 50% of seismic data". That one needs multiple collections and you keep checking the contact for progress. Note that if you just collect the science from the Complex scan arm in the above example and take it back to Kerbin for the 100% science gain. You will not be able to complete the contact for that item in that biome. As Fraktal said above check the R&D history and decide if you want all the science or do you take the contract. -
Returning player - essential add ons / mods?
N_Danger replied to JoeSchmuckatelli's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
They have done a lot of quality of life improvements. Just off the top of my head. Delta-V read outs, orbital parameters read out accessible while in flight and a maneuver node editor inspired by the Precise Node mod. So try the base game to see what has changed. I've been able to take so many mods off my game it's not funny. -
I find after having that happen, going to 4x symmetry when you want 2x, using Alt-X (On Windows machines) while having the assembly selected will change it.

How many of you play career vs sandbox?
N_Danger replied to Logan Timmermann's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Played about 800 hours in sandbox and Science. Had a science game where I set a self imposed goal of landing on every body possible and returning the Crew back to Kerbin. Just started playing games in Career(finally). I trying the same goal as above in my current game. But now only land a crew via a contract for that body. -
What you should know by now (and you don't)

How to make the fuel priority system work. I can never get an balanced flow. I still use fuel lines. -
Tumbled to a biome on Minmus once using a reaction wheel- It was a long process, in a probe that ran out of fuel. I have never built a craft to do stuff like that on purpose but I am inspired now!

Poll: Will you keep playing KSP1 after KSP2 is released?
N_Danger replied to EchoLima's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No doubt here, I'll keep playing KSP 1 until 6 months or a year after KSP 2 releases. And by then there should be a balanced judgement on it's quality. Why buy a game before the first couple patches? -
Time to wait and see about the Epic thing, If that turns out true then I'll just wait. It is a business decision we can't make, and it would be a win for the developer and the fans who don't care about the Epic Storefront. BUT the 'gaming' part of this new game looks awesome. And when it is sold in a place other than the Epic Storefront, I'll buy it then. With mods KSP 1 has plenty of gaming legs left with me until then.

My policy on boosters is to place the wet COM on the decoupler. At burn out the COM is now below the decoupler, it fires and the booster peels away. I have had this cause a Korolev 'kiss' where the engine bells were meeting up behind the core stage. Sometimes not exploding.

Setting up long term experiments on surfaces? Sign me up. New surface features? Take my money Please! I like the reasons for more extended stays after landing.

Kerbal Space Program 1.7: “Room to Maneuver” Grand Discussion Thread
N_Danger replied to UomoCapra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Love the new Sky Box. Really like the Orbit info panel and toggling from ASL to AGL altitude. And I like the engine revamp. One of the best updates in a while.- 243 replies

When ever a mission fails totally. If I think I can get partial Science and Kerbals can get back alive I roll with it. I will quick save if there is a high risk of death.
-
Probes first and/or comm relays, then kerbaled missions. For missions beyond Minmus I send kerbaled expeditions setting up a station to send lander's down to various biomes (or to moons in the case of Jool).

(Why) Do you start a new save when a new KSP version comes out?
N_Danger replied to Hotel26's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I do 2 and 3. I keep the steam copy fairly clean of mods because it updates and I keep a current game with my chosen mods in a separate folder. I use the steam copy to see whats new and mess around sometimes. Like right now with the new DV read outs. -
I just launched a stripped of all mods game and found it so much more accessible with the DV readouts. I think the console crowd will be happy with this one. And I like being able to retire a screen eating mod. (A radar altimeter would be a nice add though)
