Hi guys! I am attempting to make my first part for a part mods I am hopefully going to make in the future (and for my own use of course). I have the configuration file for my first part already written config located here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/162551-part-config-file-for-basic-part-moddingcreating/ Now I need help finding and/or learning how to create a 3d object and an IVA for my part. As explained in the above link this current part that I am working on is a simple mk2 lander can that is able to contain up to 3 Kerbals rather then 2. I would use the stock lander can IVA but @TheRagingIrishman pointed out that only 2 out of 3 my Kerbals would appear, and I don't know if this would end up breaking my game/part at all. Is there an official thread with a list of ready to use IVAs anywhere on the forums, and if not how would I go about either finding one off the forum or making my own? I also have absolutely 0 3d modeling experience what so ever (not counting playing with clay in real life) and my drawing skills are poor. The only online drawing is in paint and it included a lot of stick figures and was 2d and in no way detailed (I was bored one day and doodled) Thanks!

Today I wrote (read as edited a premade one) my first full config file for a part! time to learn how to make the part itself...

part config file for basic part modding/creating?
nascarlaser1 replied to nascarlaser1's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I got this one off the wiki. I think its the module needed to make my command pod have access to the different inventory spots from KAS and KIS. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/CFG_File_Documentation -

part config file for basic part modding/creating?

Hi guys! Finally got around to making my config file (in spoiler above. BE AWARE OF HUGE AMOUNT OF TEXT). Can someone check it over to make sure I didn't screw up anything? My current goal is to make a mk2 lander can that can hold 3 people and as such has proper mass, cost, etc. Any suggestions on how to make my part more balanced is welcomed and appreciated! -
You know that you have over-modded KSP when...
nascarlaser1 replied to MedwedianPresident's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When 1.3 comes out and you cant remember how to get into orbit without a mod installed .... promptly reverted back to 1.2.2 and had fun relearning the basics while also playing with mods (I am now proud to say that I don't need mods to get to anything that is minimus or closer. Cant get past minimus using mods or stock do to my lack of knowledge). -
lvl 2-4. I made it to both moons and orbit. Cant build a plane to save my life lol. Haven't made it past minimus (thought currently trying for duna) and have been downloading mods for ksp since about the 3rd month I owned it (I really needed new parts and LS lol... then I kind of got a bit mod crazy). I've never watched scot manly but I did watch Marcus house (who is just as good imho). Currently attempting to make a part mod (once I learn how)

part config file for basic part modding/creating?
nascarlaser1 replied to nascarlaser1's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I know a config file has a bunch of different settings that are like fill in the blank. The most I've done is give the swivel engine the same thrust as the mainsail engine. -

part config file for basic part modding/creating?
nascarlaser1 replied to nascarlaser1's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I have edited the basic stock parts before. I would like to create a bunch of new mk2 and m1k parts for space use, like rovers, rockets etc.. (anything but planes really) what config files would be easiest to use to make a mk2 cockpit? It the first part I'm going to try and do (seems easiest). Also, are there any specific programs needed for part making other then a program like MS word or notepad and KSP it self? Thanks! -
Flood Fuel Tanks OR Inflatable Floaters
nascarlaser1 replied to felcas's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
USI rescue pack has a bunch of airbags and flotation devices, both inline and radial. They work great for small payloads like 1 man diving bells. I haven't used the for anything else so not sure how well it works for bigger payloads. -
Buying parts after research - which mod?
nascarlaser1 replied to Raphaello's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
That thing was fully implemented for stock? cool! I thought I had to wait for 1.4 to do that kind of stuff. -
Planet Resources and Scanning
nascarlaser1 replied to XLjedi's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
All those other ores come from the community resource packet. The other deposits are completely useless as a stock resource, unless you have the corresponding mod for. as @Draalo mention, TAC and PBS are 2 that allow the usage of water. Metal is used by EPL to build ships off site. I'm not sure what the others are for (I only use EPL and PBS) -
If I install both RSS and RO, can I turn them on/off depending on what save I am playing on? I have a 50% stock save currently (with the exception of some USI stuff) and I dont want to accidently mess that up. Also, can I use USI LS instead of TAC, or would that cause difficulties/end of the world glitches ?

yay! I was about to ask this exact question! (I have 0 idea how to script/code in any language except for block coding lol. Thxs @Snark

[1.3.0] Mabdi's Tourist Shuttle
nascarlaser1 replied to Regor's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Cool! Whats the farthest this shuttle can reach? (return doesn't matter, I am going to build a base on the Mun and this is perfect for carrying Kerbals there if it can make it). -
I use a few mods (no more then 10 or 11). Most of these are either to help me build rockets (KER) or to make certain parts of the game more fun, like base building, exploring planets and EVA/ (rover mods, KAS/KIS, and extra planetary launch pads). I also use USI LS because it seemed a bit boring being able to send 10 Kerbals to the mun without having to worry much.

What is the latest and greatest visual mod for KSP?
nascarlaser1 replied to Raxor30's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
EVE is the only one I know of. it adds lots of clouds and other stuff into the game. Not sure if its what your looking for though since I don't use visual mods. -
PB-NUK Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator
nascarlaser1 replied to Eagleye's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Using USI core by @RoverDude also adds in different nuclear reactors of different sizes. Not sure how they compare to near future though (I only used the USI stuff) -
Not Understanding Rovers
nascarlaser1 replied to Chads's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I do the same thing as @Tex_NL, @HvP and @llanthas. If your rover is small enough, you can strap it to the top of your rocket, add a small decoupler to the top of it, build a sky crane on top of that, and then cover everything in a fairing. Flying the rocket to your destination, and if your landing off planet (like the mun or minimus) you then use your sky crane as the lander. land the rover, detach the sky crane, and you can then drive around . If your landing on an atmospheric body like Kerbin, you can ditch the sky crane and the decoupler on top, and add some parachutes to land it. All that the sky crane would require is a small fuel tank and 4 of the twitch radial liquid fuel engines. Add a decoupler under the fuel tank to attach it to your rover. In order to attach it to your rover, you will also need a cuboid strut sticking up from the rover, or have a big enough flat surface.
