  1. You can "create" Kerbals in the debug F12 menu. If you do decide to give career a try, you can adjust the difficulty settings to give you ridiculous amounts of science, money and rep for completing missions and running experiments. Alternatively, as was mentioned above, you could just cheat in a bunch of money and science and still have all the career gameplay. EDIT: After looking into it, I'm actually not sure you can make tourists in the debug. If you're willing to do some work, however: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:Modifing_Kerbals
  2. For #2 Your elevons/ailerons might not need "roll" set Scott Manley explains some of this starting around the 8:50 mark in this video: EDIT: As for a low science way to complete altitude contracts, I sometimes for example, do a crew report at 20,000 after reentry form a sub-orbital.
  3. First of all, welcome to the forums Second of all, this may be the best example of how to ask a question on the forums that I've ever seen. Well done, mate. Cheers. Lastly, it looks like the exhaust from your engines is overheating and exploding your fairing debris. Try increasing the ejection force of the fairings to get them clear of the launchpad. Right click on the fairing in the VAB to change it. (you might need to turn on "advanced tweakables" in the settings menu) EDIT: You can also hit F3 while in flight to view your "event log" to see what has occurred
  4. It's worth mentioning that there is a somewhat comparably good KSP community on Steam. Before I finally got here, I exclusively used the Steam forums and spent a lot of time helping players solve their issues and thanking others for solving mine.
  5. @alexCDG What @Deddly said. It looks like @sal_vager was correct. There are two gages on either side of the navball. The one on the right shows g-force while the one on the left shows your throttle. If you look closely at your left gage, you see that the small grey "arrow" is all the way "down" indicating that your throttle is to zero. X sets throttle to 0% and Z sets it to 100% (with default keys). Shift or left control will slowly Increase or decrease your throttle respectively Typically the throttle is at 50% when you load a ship on the launchpad so you might have accidentally hit X.
  6. There might be a way to alter this in the Settings.cfg but I'm not familiar enough to confirm it. IF there is a way to increase terrain scatter distance, I imagine that's where you'd find it. You could try finding a mod for it as it is possible someone has made one. If all else fails, you can request that a mod author create it in the Add On Discussions.
  7. Mac user as well. Have you tried searching the problem? There is a well known and documented issue with Macs (particularly with Sierra) A google or forum search should render a solution.
  8. you should look up the word facetious Cheers, Mate
  9. Almost everything with a trademark does this... Call of Duty, all comic book movies ever (besides Deadpool), ALL phone manufacturers, xbox and ps are starting to do it, every car company ever, most bands etc.... If you can't realize this is a recurrent business model perpetuated within modern economics feeding off of the very nature of our consumerism, then I fell sorry for everyone. That said, I'm still looking forward to the not so new *Insert product name* I hear its going to be revolutionary again.
  10. I've just realized how this post is kinda meta (talking about what we can't talk about). It is a shame that we can't be trusted to talk about certain topics but its also a shame how we, as an internet community, have tarnished the trust and privilege to do so. Personally, I feel that the KSP community is one of the most respectable on the web. Seems like, for the most part, we all go out of our way to help each other. Thank you guys for all the replies. I think I have a pretty solid grasp on what is accepted in The Lounge now. -Cheers
  11. I might be misinterpreting your use of Steam (or lack there of) and I apologize if I am. Just in case however, I had a very similar loading problem and verifying the steam files fixed the issue.
  12. I must have reloaded hundreds of quick saves trying to rendezvous and dock in the past. It took me quite a long time to get it down. These two mods offer a docking "camera" of sorts. It makes docking infinitely easier, more convenient and even a bit more realistic in my opinion:
  13. Like @diomedea said, it is similar to putting a lander on the mun. Kill your forward movement by burning , then use vertical thrust to maintain a controlled descent. In other words, a spaceplane with additional engines/thrusters that provide some sort of vertical thrust ability is recommended (basically VTOL). Just make sure the engines you use DO NOT require intake air. To give you an idea of what you need, here is an example of a VTOL craft and the mod I used to make it:
  14. Why can't you play anymore? I'm on a late 2013 MacBook Pro.
  15. That's funny I just watched this video this morning. I don't know much about comics but it does seem like Superman should not have had a problem beating Batman.
  16. IF YOU ARE DESPERATE.. You can always cheat but thats no fun! I highly recommend this if you're willing to get a mod: Install KIS/KAS... With these mods you can perform a "rescue mission" by creating a "rescue craft" to bring an extra heat shield into orbit, rendezvous with stranded vessel, take an engineer on eva and attach the heat shield. This method WILL WORK and it adds great gameplay elements to KSP. If you're wondering if it is a good mod, I'm sure any veteran here will agree that KIS and KAS are up there with the top gameplay mods available today and I believe they are the most downloaded on Curse. P.S. I just wanted to add an "outside the box" option to save you Kerbals. You could always make a stock craft to rescue a stranded ship
  17. Check the settings in the main menu. You'll probably find what you're looking for there.
  18. I actually just learned this a couple days ago but yeah a glossary of forum lingo would be nice. Maybe we could/should start a thread in The Lounge (or somewhere). Something like "Forum Lingo and Acronyms For Newbies"? (FLAAF'N or FLAN for short) haha
  19. To help us help you... 1) Do you here and see the engines igniting? (see flame and here a "shhh" sound?) 2) Right click the engine; Is the thrust limiter set to 0? 3) Are your decouplers and engines on the same stage? Does hitting spacebar twice activate your engine? IMO, posting pictures on the forum is done easiest by taking a screenshot and using http://imgur.com (free: no sign up) or a similar website - Welcome to the forums, @alexCDG
  20. What version of Firespitter do you have? https://github.com/snjo/Firespitter/releases
  21. "Verify" your files if you're on Steam first. (Maybe?) These links could provide some info: http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/718108/sharedassets0assets-is-corrupted.html http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/137415-ksp-wont-start-under-linux/
