[KSP 1.6.1] Stock Visual Terrain [v2.2.0] [20 March 2019]
JoE Smash replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hello @Galileo, So is the terrain around KSC supposed to look all yellow like a desert with Stock Visual Enhancements (High Res) and Stock Visual Terrain, and EVE without the CFGs, and Scatter with configs...but with ocean stuff inactivated by Better Oceans High Res? Or did I screw this up? I have all my graphics settings on High....I kinda wish the grass around KSC was green like the green around the actual buildings..... The ocean looks the same to me too.....I think.....- 1,019 replies

Why exactly does this need the Loading Screen mod as a dependancy exactly?

-
Well I extracted the 0.5 version of KSPRC because I don't think the 0.7 version was actually finished. I copied just the KSPRC like @themaster401 said and deleted the Atmosphere and city lights folders like he said. I am a little concerned because like I said CKAN threw in scatterer with the scatterer sunflare config, but KSPRC has a "Flareunity" file in assets and a KSPRC_LenseFlare file in the main folder. I don't have a great feeling about this....lol. Oh and a sunflare loader.dll in Plugins.... I wish I knew if all that should still be in there.... Well that didn't work. Game looks stock. Figuring either KSPRC broke everything because it hasn't been updated since 2016 or the main Astronomer visual pack won't work with KSP 1.4.5 even though Kopernicus has been updated for 1.4.5 already.... So basically I uninstalled my game and 100 mods for no reason whatsoever....

-
On CKAN it is installing the sunflare with scatterer as a dependancy and there is no way no to not install it without doing a manual install instead (you know how CKAN is....it's all dependancies or nothing at all). Should I just delete that folder and install the JadeOfMaar one after? KSPRC has a like 456MB 0.5 version and a smaller 0.7 pre-release for version 1.1 of ksp.....I'm assuming I am to use the probably finished 0.5 version that it defaults to.... Does this seriously work with version 1.4.5 of KSP still or should I just use Stock Surface Enhancements because that Dev actually still updates it...?

Okay, thanks! I didn't realize KSPRC was so out of date. Anyone know if it still works with 1.4.5? I was finally going to update because Kopernicus, B9 part switch, and interstellar fuel core are finally up to date. Also KSP 1.4.5 fixed whatever 1.4.4 broke with Kerbal Konstructs and Kerbin side apparently.... I have signatures enabled in settings but I don't see your's m8. Maybe they don't show up on phones?

-
Thank you for all the answers m8! It's frustrating when you ask like 10 questions and get three answers back, lol. I have 4GB of VRAM and 16 of regular. I'll shoot for the 4K because I do like to use quite a few part packs and don't want to hog all the RAM on just the environment. I'm sure even the 4K with all the extras will look good. I'll try KSPRC because I think the Mun in the trailer looked better than the stock surface enhancements. The memory leak with EVE was probably from the EVE configs being installed WITH the scatterer configs.....which I understand now to be a no no....

Does astronomers visual pack improve ground terrain as well, or just the clouds, atmosphere....etc? If not is this compatible with stock visual terrain by Gailileo? Basically I'm really confused because at this point there are several different ways to generally improve the graphics of KSP. I would like to use the best all around one. I tried EVE and it csused a memory leak.... Also EVE seems complicated to install because it requires a bunch of other mods as well and some of them you have to NOT install certain parts....like eve's config files, if you are installing the other mods that go with it....like scatterer and IT'S config files.... What does KSPRC do exactly? If I install this via CKAN will it install the dependancies correctly....i.e. EVE without configs and Scatterer with configs? I watched the trailer and it looks like it also installs the "solar flare" effect offered by a separate mod....so I probably shouldn't install the solar flare effect from the other mod? (I'm talking about sunflare with Scatterer. Do I need that, or does this visual pack do that on it's own?) Basically it would be good to list the mods you DO NOT need/should NOT install with CKAN because the features overlap and would probably wreck your game. Lastly how do you tell if your system/monitor/graphics can handle 2K/4K/8K resolutions? I play on a laptop with a NVIDIA 980M card that has 4GB of RAM. My resolution is typically 1920x1080. I don't know that my monitor can display a better resolution than that. Should I stick with 2K then?

KSP Interstellar Extended Support Thread
JoE Smash replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
This looks really cool and I tried to read and understand everything here, but half way through the reactors my eyes crossed and I haven't been able to uncross them. Now I'm getting a headache and my brain feels like it has contents under pressure. I doubt I could get anything to work right if I used this.... -
I NED HALP WITH CKAN
JoE Smash replied to bQuest's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
I really want clouds in my game too, but I just installed EVE with CKAN several days ago and promptly had to uninstall it because it caused a pretty severe memory leak where a tenth of a gygabyte of RAM ticked away every second. I chalked this up to I installed it on top of 100 other mods and I installed it without also using Kopernicus, Surface-EVE, scatterer, and whatever else you may or may not have to install with it and in the correct order. (I was under the impression EVE was one of the things I could install without all the other visual mods or Kopernicus) Installing mods that screw with or improve KSP's graphics seem to involve a higher learning curve than just checking the box in CKAN and hoping everything works out for the best.... There are installation guides available on the Internet about how to install the suite of visual mods correctly. I suggest you find said guides and follow the steps to the letter...which requires you copying specific files and folders into the correct location and not other specific files and folders that may or may not be installed by CKAN by default. I myself simply gave up and play with ugly stock graphics and no clouds and city lights. Which makes me sad. To do it correctly I guess I may have to uninstall 100 mods for the third time since I started playing KSP about a month ago. Thinking about doing all that again just to have clouds made me sadder....if that's a word.... -
It probably only makes me nervous because I don't fully understand what things are okay in the KSP and Output logs and what things are not ok.... Even mods done correctly make things in the logs appear about not being able to find this or that. Or this doesn't exist....creating it. I don't fully understand which statements are fine and which are bad. I believe at the time I was thinking I couldn't find the correct parts for part contracts that refer to stock parts. This was the first week I was playing though. Now that I have looked in the contracts file I realize contracts are only based on parts you do have, not parts you don't have. Pretty sure the only instance you can have of not having the right part to test for a contract on a mod part is because you uninstalled all the parts with that mod AFTER the contract in question had already been generated in mission control, and/or you accepted it THEN deleted the parts.... Ever since though I have never really felt ok with mods that change or disappear stock parts....but that's probably just a JoE superstition....

If you uninstall your game and then delete anything left over, and then start over and your game is STILL crashing all the time you could try my fix. I say that solely from your error log of displayed modules throwing the error. I don't understand the crap in output logs/KSP logs.... I'd keep a copy of your persistent save files (there's two) in case you start over and still have the crashes.... I was having frequent crashes, deleted everything and started over twice because everyone here tells you to, and then STILL had frequent crashes and it was because of xinput1_3.dll. Lastly Kopernicus (and EVE, scatterer, Galileo's visual mods) and the like have VERY specific installation instructions and need to be installed first and by themselves to get them to work properly. I'd read the readme for Kopernicus and follow it to the letter if you want the Visual Textures mods to work. There is an installation guide on the Internet somewhere for them....I'd look for it and/or ask for help. I wouldn't use Ven's stock revamp since it messes with the stock textures....just my personal opinion on it.... Some say Kerbal Joint Reinforcement is now obsolete (at least there are many threads about it if you Google it) because you can go into settings for the game and enable "advanced tweakables," which then allows you to turn on rigid attachments and auto struts via the right click menu of every part on your ship....
-
So copying a copy of the 64 bit xinput1_3.dll from Windows\system32 to the KSP_x64_Data\Plugins folder and deleting the 32bit copy already there appears just as stable as the other way around.....as far as multiple crashes to desktop go. I'm still no longer crashing to desktop after playing briefly. However I have now noticed that after changing scenes and reverting flights more and more of my RAM is being used over time and not being released. Historically there have been threads and bug reports about this situation (I have done searches). I believe Squad believes they fixed this issue in an earlier release, but I vote they have not. I don't think this is happening because of my xinput1_3.dll swap, but I'm not positive because back when it was crashing frequently I was focusing all my energy on fixing that, not looking for additional issues. Now that I have the crashing under control I can look for more issues...lol. Of course I suppose one of the 100 mods I have installed could also be the thing causing me to slowly tie up all my RAM, but to be honest I don't really feel like uninstalling all the mods for a third time to see if I can pinpoint which one might be doing this. If anyone playing already knows of mods that do this, or can confirm the stock game is still using more and more RAM every time you launch and revert a flight back to the VAB, I'd appreciate the heads up. You can visualize this by playing the game with Task Manager opened in the background (by holding down CTRL+ALT+DEL) and ALT+TABbing to take note of how much RAM is being used before and after reverting a flight.... Someone in another thread historically said having tree scatter enabled in graphics settings causes this....I do have tree scatter enabled....I guess I could at least try turning that off at some point and checking on this more....

What grade would you give the Making History expansion?
JoE Smash replied to klesh's topic in Making History Discussion
Sounds like I'm glad I didn't buy it.... Probaby should have added at least twice as many Making History missions....and some cool and maybe even slightly OP parts to make you feel like you want them....instead of weak parts no one wants... I was hoping the mission builder would mean people would be making cool missions or contracts to try, but I guess you can't play them without having the expansion as well, so oh well.... -
That's probably why none of the visual mods EVER install right with CKAN. I've installed Kopernicus a few times with CKAN and it always forces you to download dependancies.....but this is the first I am hearing of ModularFlightIndicator.....so I imagine Kopernicus is set up wrong on CKAN, it has never forced me to install it. At least as far as I can recall....
-
It says you are running KSP 1.4.3....your mods need to match the KSP version...whenever possible. ESPECIALLY for some of the mods you are running.... Are you using the regular KSP.exe or KSP_64.exe to launch the game? Or are you launching it through Steam or CKAN or something? I recommend just launching the shortcut yourself and not using a third party launcher to start the game.... You are running several VERY troublesome mods if they are not installed properly and for the correct version of the game. Extraplanetary Launchpads, Kopernicus, and I believe KIS/KAS, and most likely Interstellar (since it changes sooooo many things) have to be installed properly and for the correct version of KSP or they can totally break the game and even possibly your saves. I have known EVE and scatterer to cause a memory leak if not installed correctly. The visual enhancement mods are so tricky to install, I have seen a guide on the Internet on how to install them correctly.

My Game Just Wont Stop Crashing
JoE Smash replied to Hydrowelder's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Lol I just realized I was in a thread, I thought I was in a private convo with @Lisias....Now that I scrolled up and looked at the rest of the error log, I have more to say (all I saw was the tiny xinput1_3.dll blurb Lisias linked in his post to me lol) I know mono.dll errors are a completely different error than the crashes I was having. My first bit at the top was always had the access violation in the actual executable for the game. In my case it was KSP_x64.exe. He seems to be running the 32bit executable in a 64bit Windows OS....that's probably the biggest issue in my opinion.... Once he starts running the game in 64bit mode, it is quite possible he will still have crashes involving xinput1_3.dll. If he/she does then I would try the xinput1_3.dll swap I have been doing.... @Hydrowelder what version of KSP are you running? Do you have the making history expansion involved? What mods do you have installed? Are all your mods for the version of KSP that you are running? If any of your mods are NOT for the version of KSP that you are running please list the name of the mod and what version of the game it is supposed to be run with.... Any mods that haven't been updated for the version of KSP you are currently running I would try getting rid of first and see if that gets rid of the mono error. Just because the mod hasn't been updated to match the version of the game you are running it doesn't DEFINITIVELY mean the mod won't work with your game version....but it's a solid place to start. Some mods are VERY dependant on being for the correct game version....like Kopernicus, B9 part switcher, Interstellar fuel switch, etc. Other mods that just add a bunch of parts, but don't mess with the game functionality don't necessarily ALWAYS have to match. When in doubt though, it is best to check the forum thread for the mod to see if anyone asked if the mod works with a particular version of the game.....if you can't find the answer there already, then you should ask in the thread yourself..... -
My Game Just Wont Stop Crashing
JoE Smash replied to Hydrowelder's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Disregard, thought I was in a private conversation with @Lisias, lol.... -
Yeah I'm not trying to do anything complicated. I just figured the parts are made of metal typically so they should look like it....yeah? I do use all the near future stuff....well most of it. Construction, solar, electric, propulsion, launch vehicles.... I also use a lot of stuff by Linuxgurugamer, Tomahawk industries, refurbished parts, recycled parts. Mk2 and Mk3 stock expansion parts, OPT Spaceplanes, legacy and reconfig by JadeOfMaar. Deep Sky Core and Thor Tech. Shadowworks for the Orion cockpits.....I have A LOT of parts. I'm using 1.4.3 still though. My big hold up on upgrading is no longer Kopernicus, it's Kerbal Konstructs and Kerbin Side. The guy who maintains Kerbal Konstructs was on vacation for three weeks apparently when 1.4.4 came out so he was unable to work on fixing it....and now 1.4.5 is out. Not sure if/when he's going to get it updated. His last response that I read didn't sound very promising as far as figuring out how to update it so it works with 1.4.4 or 1.4.5....
-
Ok...I might at some point. If you use CKAN the one I was using was an "Unofficial Textures Unlimited config." Which I believe covered a majority of the stock parts.... Like I said the problem is I use A LOT of part packs... I mean parts are really one of my favorite things about the game. So many people have sooooo many interesting part mods. I try to limit it to the ones I REALLY need or want....but there are just too many to choose from....it's hard. I do also have a bit of a hoarding problem in RL. Not like I should be on a TV show about it because I have junk piled to the ceiling and you can't get around....but I have a hard time in general throwing some stuff out.
-
Got it.... There is a default confg offered through CKAN. I believe I found the author on the Internet before....not sure. Oh well wish there was a way to make all the parts reflective and look like they are made out of aluminum or something....the best I had was half of them which is silly. I guess I'll just go back to all the parts looking like white plastic....
-
Is the default config offered through CKAN ever going to be updated to include the bits it doesn't seem to include, like cockpits? I like the shiny metallic parts, but there is little point if half the parts are metallic and half the parts are not.....
-
Now you are "dating" all of us. I don't mean romantically, I mean age. I remember trying to clear my first 640K of memory to at least above 591K with Memmaker I believe it was, so Darklands by Microprose would frigging run. I grew up playing sierra games on DOS in 1992. I used and sometimes miss the simplicity of Dosshell. I don't need all this stupid crap that is in Windows now. Every new version of Windows that comes out they make it hard and harder to do simple crap like find my damn Device Manager, or Control Panel, or Add and Remove Programs, or even a DOS prompt.... They keep burying everything I need under more and more menus and buttons and searches... They also keep hardwiring more and more crap I don’t want running in the background at all like frigging Cortana, or Windows Defender or even Windows update. Everything requires I search Google for how and then I have to use regedit to force crap off that I didn't want on in the first place. Windows is riduculous now and it's too big, and it has too many moving parts and built in junk and eats too many resources. I HATE IT! But I still hate Apple more and I never took the time for Unix or Linux, so I'm stuck with her like a fat ugly ex-wife... Well I'll have to reinstall Memgraph to cut out some of the garbage collecting and Janitors Closet to prune part files.....both currently maintained by Linuxgurugamer
