Ask a stupid question, Get a stupid answer back.

TL;DR Why is J...Cold? -
Didn't take any pictures, but I created a refueling drone (RF-I) and sent it to Terra I to refuel Cartographer I. I was able to bring enough fuel and monopropellant to fully refuel the survey drone, so I can now send that on its way to Minmus to do an orbital survey scan. Once that's done, Cartographer I will come back to Terra I and get refueled a second time and await its next mission. After that happens, RF-I will be sent back to Kerbin; I crafted it with some parachutes so that, assuming it survives re-entry, it can float to the ground and be scooped up to regain some of the funds used in launching it. If I remember, I'll take a shot of RF-I in the VAB.

Posting in the wrong thread is cheating!

Werner, we've got some creep out here who wants straw! I'll have the Cobb salad, please.

Your poor grammar, specifically the use of much instead of many, proves you are cheating!

Make a wish... and have it horribly corrupted!

Granted. You are inspired to create the Russian Blood Candy from kerbiloid's brother I wish I was tan. -
I took a break from the Historical Space Race this morning, and I fired up my career save that is an extension of the Caveman challenge. I am working on a space station in LKO (150km...ish), and part of that will be that it is going to be used as a refueling station at some point. In order to make that a refueling station, I have to go and do surveys of the Mun and Minmus. This leads me into my ability - or lack thereof - to craft satellites that don't all look the same or have the same functions. So I built Cartographer I: This ends up being an SSTO with enough fuel to get to Mun before I have to decouple and use the fuel on the satellite itself. So I launch and send it on its way to do its thing. I set the cutoff to 60% so I can see those areas that have a higher concentration of ore; this should, in theory, allow me to focus future landings on the Mun to get to where the best eats are at, right? And one of my previous landings, well before the survey, is right in a sweet spot. Yay me! Anyhow, I thought about sending the probe to Minmus from the Mun, but that polar orbit requirement messed with my fuel. So I sent the probe to my space station, Terra I, to dock and await a fuel transfer. Terra I is currently inhabited by a couple of Kerbs I saved from LKO. This is punishment for getting launched into LKO by someone other than me and then me having to waste the funds to go rescue them! The station itself is pretty basic right now, with a cupola, an MPL, and a solar array with some heat sinks. It's fairly basic, but it serves the current purpose. I will have to add fuel refinement and/or tanks for storage at some point. Cartographer I is basically a drone with a survey scanner, some solar panels, and a relay antenna. I put the relay on it because it is intended to be used to map ALL bodies in the Kerbol system; I can dock this thing to any ship that has a docking port, take it with to whatever planet or moon, set it free to do the scanning, and then re-dock. The antenna is there so that it has a link back to Kerbin to send data. Don't know if that's needed or not, but if I use real-world examples, I need it. And it looks cool. That's what I did today. Tomorrow I'll refuel Cartographer I and send it to Minmus.

Historical Space Race Challenge
Scarecrow71 replied to Scarecrow71's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
A small mission today. I will state up front that I will have to relaunch the Agena Target Vehicle. I was able to garner enough science on Luna X mission to unlock Clamp-O-Tron Jr., and that is far easier to work with than the Ocans that I originally put up in orbit. And the ATV will be used in at least 1 more launch, so I need to have it up there. There isn't anything wrong with the ATV; I simply want parts that I'm used to using. -
Luna X And that completes Luna X.

@jinnantonix I noticed that your last couple of videos have none of the UI from the game in them. Is this intentional/by design? -
do people watch ksp on youtube or other media?

For me, Matt Lowne and Orb8ter. And at that, it's primarily tutorials so I can see what I'm missing in my own knowledge and then try to incorporate that into my game playing. -
Re-entry speed don't reduce
Scarecrow71 replied to OldkKSPplyr's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
For starters, 7500 m/s is way too fast to do re-entry. You should aerobrake on several passes, starting with a Pe of 65000m. Kerbin's atmosphere will help slow you down. You should also point retrograde and fire the engine as you reach Pe, but only fir a few seconds on each pass; this will also help slow you down. I am, of corse, guessing here; you should really provide more detail, such as planet and shots of the craft. -
Your log file indicates an access violation due to tying to write to an invalid location. At the very bottom of the log file is the output for the stack trace, and at the bottom of that is a location for the crash file. Please check that and upload that as well. It should be noted that someone else here recently had the same issue; you can check their thread to see if what they did helps you.

Historical Space Race Challenge
Scarecrow71 replied to Scarecrow71's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
And I finally, for the first time ever, dropped something on Eve's surface. This was the hardest thing I've ever done in KSP. Ever. I did a quick-save once I achieved Eve orbit, and I must have tried every known strategy for getting to the surface known to Kerbals. Direct descent, multiple aero-braking passes, using fuel, not using fuel, using the engine as a heat shield, decoupling the engine early...everything. In the end, it simply ended up being sheer dumb luck that got me through. And those heat shields I encased the probe in? Yeah, they were nearly useless. On 99% of the descents they exploded in the atmosphere leaving the probe all innocent and exposed. Which then caused it to explode. To be honest, I wish I would have taken video of this so I could watch it and remember how I did this so I can do it again at some point. -
And my first-ever landing on Eve's surface. Venera III And that completes Venera III.

The two of us that are that far have done D1. So please do the same. -

FrI'm the Wikipedia entry on Discoverer 1: I'm going to hold you to D1 unless you can show me where you saw it didn't achieve orbit? -
One of the reasons I got upset with Watch_Dogs was that Ubisoft added things into the game that could only be done online. You had to purchase an Xbox Live account and play online in order to accomplish certain things, and if you didn't, you couldn't get certain rewards or that elusive 100% completion rating. My first fear would be that the use of this in KSP2 would be for the devs to force people to pay for extras in order to get the best play. I'm not talking about DLC, but rather core functionality. The second thing here has already been mentioned by others, and that is the potential for abuse and scams related to it. "Your account has been suspended due to malicious activity; click here to validate your crypto account to continue playing." No thank you. Like @K^2, I would instantly pass if this was part of the game. This raises a question for me. Will the game only be available on Steam? Or will we be able to purchase through Intercepts site?
