Back in my day abused to get mocked & bullied for playing TTRPGs. Specifically Dungeons & Dragons... the game shops of the early 90s were hardly bigger than walk in closets & were relegated to the darkest least traveled section of the mall / plaza.

Oops. I have 190.. is what I meant to put. (Think exact is 184 w/ Feb 8th last played) There are a small handful of missions I did not complete.. but not many. I don't recall but think there are 4. One of the reasons I found KSP2 a bit deficient. As soon as tech becomes available I tend to launch a bunch of over engineered beasts into every direction possible. Sometimes in packs to cannibalize fuel. Because of this approach I missions being completed in spurts. It puts a much heavier toll on total performance that KSP1 seemed to. I was most excited for future refinement of whatever bottleneck was causing this.

I encounter the chute very very frequently.. or did. I have only got about 100 ish hours into KSP2 and stopped playing after the mission chains. (Because I'm a Mission Player ) I ALWAYS quick save before hitting atmo. This has never persisted for three attempts though. Two things I can usually count on happening.. Any craft I make over 200 parts explodes on the launchpad when loading. The parachutes are going to fail the first time I do feel that some bug accounts are written in a somewhat hyperbolic manner, I try not to discount them out of hand. Perhaps just some healthy skeptism. (Not saying *anyone* dismissed anything. It seemed effort and language was specifically used so as to not be the case)

Oh, now I see your point... it's one many of us agreed with. There are numerous requests for more communication on the "official" forum. Discord has seemed to be their primary means of interacting with the community. I understand the need tobkeep apprised of the pulse of the industry.. and sometime change accordingly. To me it is part of that shift of focusing on the visuals to help the game sell. Discord is where the newest generation of gamers exist. Most probably do not know what IRC or BBS means. It is that transitory nature of communique & shear bulk / unorganized manner in which everything is parsed. This Last Part is merely my opinion, but I sincerely feel that trying so hard to appeal to a much wider demographic has alienated many that made the first such a success.

Because the quantity has so far surpassed what niche was intended to encompass that it obtained international recognition in the gaming / development industry & soared to vaulted heights that still maintain It as one of the top 500 games being played on steam DESPITE more than 2/3 of people pole not using the launcher and 15 years past its launch date? No one has excused anything for the game. Many here will talk at length about shortcoming and various hard limits the game has. But most require some form of supportive argument to engage. Tired rhetoric & diatribes fall to engage people for long. A couple Stata posts or detailed examples of a social impact to support their frame with a "your wrong the game sucks" will only continue the discourse for so long before the majority feel your stance has been sufficiently invalidated.

If you think having been added to the "mundane excrements sent into space" list is not noteworthy your a simpleton. A banal argument to support your personal feelings doesn't lend it credence. It seems petty. It's rather easy to admit that some no name developer made a name for himself in the worlds developement community. Something like that is not subjective. The game had a fundamental impact on hundreds of thousands of people and encouraged them into stem related fields. The vast majority of US academic pursuits are humanities or social sciences. Several Prominent Awards. No one is saying the Game was plastered across the front page of AP pr Rueters articles for the world to read. But to try and say that it wasn't a revolutionary, genre defining game is asanine. IIRC Typical Expectations for a niche game selling is less than 2 million copies. This varies greatly depending.. some niches are rather big. There is a point where it grows behond a niche. I would go and compile some links to support 5+ million sales falling outside of niche.. I just think the other 4.5+ million players of KSP1 were much more discerning.. and did not buy the "sequel". Besides the we know a huge portion of players NEVER use the launcher. Despite that on steam alone.. the game ranks 436 in concurrent player count. This is how many years after release?

What have you been playing recently? (Other than KSP)

Got factorio and enjoy it a bit.. like the gameplay. I just wish it had more of a campaign feel. Slowly taking over a map region by region. Has anyone played "oddsparks" I see complaints about manual harvesting. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1922020/Land_Above_Sea_Below/ Did find this game that is super cheap and a wonderful way to kill time. A tile based "city builder" where you are trying to keep the island from sinking. -
If you think any object placed into space is done so on whim or whimsy, I would seriously challenge that stance. There was an entire team of people somewhere that agreed the payload in question is / was a worthwhile pursuit. Or someone sacrificed their personal carryon. Either way show me a picture of He-man or a Ninja Turtle in space.. or whatever media the kids like today. It may have been a niche product when it dropped into EA. As the game inspired a generation of youth to pursue STEM related fields.. it obtained international status. Granted it may NOT be as internationally known as name like Chernobyl, Pearl Harbor or Taylor Swift but it sure as he'll made a mark. I agree that this endeavor does not warrant a Nobel Prize or any grand celebration from the world at large, but there is not need to try undermine or diminish that accomplishment by trivializ-ing various minutea from development. One thing I found quite wise from HarvestRs comments on KSP2 development. He commented on the need for the final vision being very maleable. The final product may not look like you envisioned from the start, but that adaptability and willingness to listen to the the idea of community or other developers in the team... makes a better game.

Intercept/PD needs to speak out NOW

The LinkedIn profile has changed status from IG to PD there's links somewhere. -
This is one of the most important things I've seen in a while to suggest a resurgence in truly greats games. A lot of small developer hemmed up in some repurposed bovine waste from the big boys to protect the bottom line...being SOP really destroys the intended competition of a free market. https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/hooded-horse-co-founder-says-publishers-should-ditch-horrible-recoup-clauses-to-help-devs This was an interesting read and I see it impact small business in manufacturing a lot as well.. the ones funding it say they assume *all* the risk.. but have stacked the deck so as to mitigate most of that risk onto others. Remember.. golden rule of Captialism. "DO not risk your own money."

I enjoy these videos. Searching periodically for "Kerbal News" and variations of such.. produces little of worth. Many of these videos contain the KSP analysis somewhere in a greater body and makes it a little harder to unKerbal it. Thanks. The degree of silence is unusual. Granted there aren't any situations I can remember where so much uncertainty was met with prolonged silence. There is a excrements load potential cash associated with the brand. Often various peripheral product launches will accompany some flagship icon of the IP. Was truly hoping that flagship would be KSP2... If it is not I wonder what that flagship will be. The more I think on it.. the more I feel certain they will try to salvage the developement costs thus far. Unless there is another Flagshop Kerbal product on the Horizon.. KSP2 is the only way they currently have to really leverage the IP. However, Microsoft is proof that Valuable and *potentially* lucrative IP get shelved all the time. Movie industry was infamous for buying screen plays an shelving them so the competition wouldn't have a shot with the material. Perhaps it's one of those situations. "Hey, we tried. At least the other guys don't have it." Alternatively, it could be the guys cutting the checks have decided that 7 concurrent teams (or whatever) is not needed. I don't know.. I woke up strangley optimistic.

Shadimosity (sha-di-mos-i-ty) *noun?* 1. The quality or state of being duplcitous with spiteful intent. A tendency to engage in actions or behaviors that are dubious with a combined hint of pettiness. 2. A peculiar aura of presence that evokes both a sense of deception & malice, often leaving others unsettled or edgy. Origin: Early 21st century; coined by an individual during a conversation with themself. blend of 'shady' and 'animosity' for a twist of whimsy. Example: Stuart hated working at Corpo World. Everyone on the floor was so self absorbed & filled with shadimosity.

This may be the single greatest contributor with my inability to suspend disbelief for such scenes. The timer started with a 5 minute countdown almost 20 minutes ago..

All my mods wont show up
Fizzlebop Smith replied to stupid dumb idiot's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Thank you @HebaruSan for helping the poor lost souls seeking to experience KSP as it was truly intended.. w/ mods! @stupid dumb idiot I recommend using Ckan as the definitive mod installer for all things Kerbal. The "Comprehensive Kerbal Archive Network" removes the user error from installing mods & vast majority of mods are available. It makes sure proper dependencies are present and accounted for and most importantly.. the modloader ensure are file path / folder structures are prim and proper. It has a version checker to not when mods are updated & if I am not mistaken... even does priority loading..because some mods benefit from being installed in a certain order. The Link Herbaru Shared will provide instructions. I strongly recommend you choose the Ckan method. -
They never could resolve those floating points.. poor Nate.

All my mods wont show up
Fizzlebop Smith replied to stupid dumb idiot's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Do you use CKAN or Manually install? Were these mods you played with before and they Vanished from once play to the next? Was this the first time you ever tried playing with them? Did you try to reinstall them? Usually a baseline of information will help people help you. I am not very good at this kind of stuff. Generally the really smart people one here are not going to hop on here and ask you a ton of questions to get to the bottom of it. This is an example of Hey folks I need some help with my modded install. I recently Downloaded some Mods onto a fresh install of KSP I use Ckan and it is showing several mods as "installed" but the do not appear in the folder "C:[filepath]/GameData Since it is showing up as already being installed in a predicament This was of course an example and not your situation.. a baseline of info is required so insert your scenario -
I saw the Thread for Game Cliches that have lived long beyond the expiration date and decided to search for an appropriately similar thread for movies. I did not find it, or it was far enough down that it was missed. There is one primary cliche in movies that drives me absolutely INSANE. It also raises its ugly head across a wide variety of genres whenever the building of tension is required and those responsible for its creation lack the requisite set of narrative / literary devices to achieve the proper timber of suspense. THE COUNTDOWN I want to look away whenever I see a countdown. It is like a car wreck or those indie skateboarder videos from the 90s where you look on in dread hoping to see / not see a compound fracture. What happened to appropriately timed segue with a well done track or score? Each and every time I see a bomb (on screen) with a timer ticking away to that fateful moment, I begin taking bets in my head on when the timer will finally stop. Based on the tone of the movie / show up to that point, the perceived subtlety of those writing and the quality of the music to try and anticipate where the time will stop. Will it be 00:00:01 when the day is saved? Well, 99% of the time this is the case... but on the rare Occasion the bomb will stops somewhere between 1 and 9 seconds. Some of those will start the count down a second time. Oh yeah, added suspense, right? Does anyone remember the old movie "Blown Away" ... best bomb scene ever. Remember what it stopped on? BOOOOM All that suspense and mounting tension resolved in a way I did not see coming (at the time i was like 9) I sincerely wish bomb scenes / countdowns in general would get a facelift

The Positive Forum Movement (Updated 4 December 2015)
Fizzlebop Smith replied to Deddly's topic in Kerbal Network
As increasing uncertainty looms all around.. these are the types of postings which exemplify the quality of this community (overall). I peruse the unread threads and was happy when this one popped up.. a humble reminder for everyone to treat one another with decency. -
Hahaha... this made me cackle with laughter. There were tears left when the laughter faded Damnit.. this tune will be I'm my head for a couple days..

Fizzlebop Smith replied to a topic in The Lounge
At least my OG hobby doesn't have that ashy taste as a result. About to go pretend to touch grass & play D&D for next six hours. Thinking about it directly after a KSP mention makes me realize the quirky Stupdily Courageous Kerbals captured my imagination. Every mission I fly comes with a plethora of inner dialogue like middle school version of a Tarantino flick. I make up competitive agencies that are competing with one another. The inherent silliness certai ly helps achieve that. -

Are you enjoying Juno then? Do you see yourself becoming invested in the long term. I finished Orbiting Droo, put a relay around Luna but essentially end up finishing each play with a rocket RC car for excrementss & giggles. About an hour in I can seem to stay focused.. having same issue with KSP1 lately. I LOVED kerbals soo much and it was their Quirk that got me. That balanced with the sophistication of the game. I still can't seem to find a game that grabs me. Even games like Kenshi & Rimworld don't much draw me in. (Both I Enjoyed until recently) KSP2 broke my heart & I am having a hard time right now finding small doses of joy. Feels kinda pathetic, but definitely not the first time I've overreacted to something I should never have even been emotionally invested in. First marriage comes to mind. -
Can we please get an update as to what’s going on?
Fizzlebop Smith replied to HammerTyme's topic in KSP2 Discussion
When assign blame you have to look at those in key roles.. that why certain individuals have a tendency to shoulder a disproportionate amount of the burden for failure. Nate was the face of this product, for better or worse. I believe he genuinely thought this game would succeed bc the community would be impressed with his awesome vision, so much so that we would be willing to excuse ... certain deficiencies for extended periods of time. When everyone wanted something substantive be the foundation of all those "oooo... purdy!" It kind of fell apart a little. I understand the need for visual aide and demonstrative presentations, but you must find balance. When you hear people say things that are not accurate... they absolutely are going to get some blame for their misinformed position. If they say innacurate things without any clarification to those inconsistencies.. it seems willful. Regardless if that's the case.. the perception starts to shift to one of being intentionally misled. "Fully Funded" - massive lay off "Playable at Launch" "Actual Play Footage" These are what started to turn me off of Nate. Enthusiasm without Substance. I try not to watch any videos with him in it because of this bias. Regardless of what's really going on.. I can see some deceptive marketing material as anything but disingenuous now & view him a smarmy Narcissist. I can't help it.. I wanna be a better person with less judgement in my heart. But loading a bunch of visual content on a liquid poor foundation of code while the community that built the franchise was highly intelligent professional and gifted youths.. I had a step dad who was shaddy as he'll. He was a handyman that took jobs and never completed them.. boy he could talk a great game. I dispised his behavior growing up.. ans seem to now see him when I look at Nate. Sorry can't help it... Community Managers however were not to blame. A thankless job that was impossible to do, bc the proper tools (info) was not provided or allowed to be released.
