  1. And we're back! Hope everyone had a nice Interlude, the flotilla has arrived at the maneuver node and will now burn in sequence for Eve intercept. I suppose if I were REALLY smart I'd have launched to LKO orbits at Eve inclination and I wouldn't have to waste fuel on planar correction burns...well, maybe next time
  2. Little Kerbals! Could be lots of fun. Wondering who is in the rocket if not one of the 'big four'.
  3. We'll be back with updates soon gang--just have to finish a little business with this rock in LKO before warping to the next Eve mission maneuver node. The new Kranefly turned out to be that "bigger boat" we needed to properly wrangle a Class E rock. This one somehow got captured into a very elliptical polar orbit around Kerbin naturally, likely due to munar influence. Over a series of long burns managed to shift it to an equatorial track, and am now settling it into a circular orbit maybe 5-6 million km up. Guess I'll build a base on it after that.
  4. Your Mortimer must be thrilled that you are making a profit, and are accounting to such a level of precision. I pretty much just try to keep the balance in black, which is not really a problem once there are enough assets on the ground to farm for "data from the surface of ______" contracts as they appear...that pays for all the failed asteroid haulers I must inevitably de-orbit, and other random foolishness.
  5. Ha, i hadn't thought of that, it could work! I put that on Pg1 to lampshade the fact I was talking about not being able to return from Eve surface and I still had the Eve Rocks badge in my sig. But now that you mention it... - - - Updated - - - i thought we were talking about the equally dangerous and superhuman Madeline KAAAAAAAAHHHHN? - - - Updated - - - If so, are you the one person on KSP who has not seen "Wrath of Kahn"... er, Khan? Get thee to Netflix (or local equivalent) immediately! This written from a hammock on the shores of Lake Ontario. Yes, life is hard for poor Kuzzter. Will be back playing and posting after the weekend
  6. You're right, I didn't realize that. And the increase is not insignificant... well, if it's possible, it would be pretty close. I'm not betting against Foxster though
  7. I did it in 0.90 to test a concept for a Jool-5 attempt, and I think the same design would work here as neither Tylo nor the LV-N vacuum thrust changed in 1.x. Of course I did it from 30km not 80km, but then again I undocked and re-docked as well Oh yeah, manual landing too
  8. Some Kerbals believe there is only one god, the Kraken--and there is only one thing we say to the Kraken: I backed up my persistence file. (sorry, I can't remember whose quote this is, it's not mine ) BTW added the last page of Dilsby's Kerbahashi Maru test to the Imgur album.
  9. Well, it needed to be one louder, and that brought your stage to 11 - - - Updated - - - It was really the only way to do it. I could make one of them go ragdoll, but once that kerbal was not the active 'ship' he would immediately stand up--and I needed to make the simulator active to set off explosions etc. You guys have no idea what I went through to bring you this cinematic masterpiece But anyway, time to wrap it up--at this point the interlude is nearly as long as the first chapter!
  10. Good story--lots of important lessons in it, and the best thing is you never gave up and you got Jeb home.
  11. He'd have to be some kind of modded superkerbal from a previous verion. And he would have to look nothing like Benedict Cumberbatch. - - - Updated - - - I like it! Totally not going to go that way, but I do like it! - - - Updated - - - Whoops, you're right! I guess I reverted to get that shot and forgot to re-explode the charges. Well, maybe they've already been reset for the next lucky cadet. - - - Updated - - - Thanks! "Jool doesn't take prisoners." just didn't seem to fit
  12. 10/10, one of the most famousest and maintainer of the Light Green Group!
  13. It definitely is! Only reason I did not install it yet is for continuity with previous pages of the comic. Gregrox's pack even has the lime-green Command uniform to match Val's and Dilsby's speech bubbles! I'll probably dress the crew up properly once I finish the Eve comic and launch an actual Jool mission. Now if only I could find a way to designate a hand-built "bridge" as a pressurized compartment, so they can take their helmets off
  14. At this point in Kerbfleet continuity she's only a looty komder, but yeah I thought it appropriate for her to have the Kirk lines at the end of the sim
  15. I guess you're right...maybe if they turn it over they'll find it's a smiley face! You know, if I'd thought about it I should have done THAT for the anomaly around Tylo!
  16. Just finished a few fun panels in the comic using this rig and thought others might like to try it out. It requires the Kerbal Engineer Redux mod for the computers at the Engineer's station, and TAC Self Destruct for the explosions. Here's the pages from the comic showing how it was used: Note that for some of the explosions I used Whack-A-Kerbal in addition to the self-destruct charges. (Also note, your Kerbals will be in their EVA suits with helmets on unless you have a mod installed that lets them do otherwise.) AG1 toggles the jet engine smoke simulator. AG2 through AG5 are various explosive charges set all around the bridge. AG7 toggles the LV909 mass driver, very useful for blowing Kerbals around the bridge after an explosion. AG0 toggles the 'red alert' lights. You can get the crew into their seats by transferring them from the hitchhiker pod to the 'turbolift' and then having them EVA onto the bridge. Alternatively, there is a ladder to the ground. The probe core out back is there as an alternative point for the camera to focus on; I decoupled it and made it the active ship when I needed a lower angle shot of the action on the bridge. Enjoy! Craft file at KerbalX.
  17. All right, I think poor Mr. Dilsby has suffered enough, don't you? What do you think, should I post the Kerbfleet Command Bridge Simulator over in the Exchange? ETA: Done.
  18. Thank you! And I hope the days are never too dark. - - - Updated - - - You're not far off the mark, at least for this simulator. Shout-out to the makers of TAC Self Destruct, and to Geschosskopf for bringing this fantastic mod to my attention - - - Updated - - - Certainly true as far as his attitude! But "this part" refers to "this part in the simulation we already did five times today". That could have been clearer. Anyway, who knew Bill had such commitment to the actor's craft? And that he could be-- such-- a large-- HAAAAAMMMMMM!!! - - - Updated - - - That's a good one! No promises when it will show up, but I have that one stored in the "future joke" file now, thanks! And by the way, today's panels are brought to you by the following tropes: Made of Explodium No Seat Belts Screen Shake The Bridge Nooooooo!!!!! And, for poor Mr. Dilsby, the Heroic BSOD
  19. That looks surprisingly like a whack-a-ball. I know this because I left smaller versions of it all over the floor of my bridge simulator
  20. Cadets in the get valuable decision-making and crew-sploding experience in the Kerbfleet Command Bridge Simulator!
  21. ...but seriously, CV, I see what you're trying to do with this challenge and it's interesting, but it's really not practical to enforce a rule like "no peeking at the orbit map". I'm wracking my brain to come up with a workable set of rules but I'm not having any luck. Have you tried doing this yet yourself? That's really the best way to work all the bugs out of the rules and make a challenge lots of people will want to try. I do think you're on to something here--good luck!
