  1. Ha! It was all part of my plan to trick you out of the White Bar Group! even if it was just for a few seconds and even if I missed it Bwahahahahaaaaa!
  2. Oh, it's DOB canon that any refiner can make ethanol, in the right (wrong) engineer's hands. And hey, I finally got around to posting the Pogo that Gregmore and Clauselle took to orbit. Will follow up with other ships eventually including the famous Hummlebee.
  3. Per request, I'm going to post some of the ships that appear in my comics. First up is a Kerbfleet workhorse, the Pogo XLP. This is a very basic mid-career (that is, no RAPIER) SSTO capable of bringing six Kerbals to LKO and back. Comes fully equipped with an inline shielded docking port and six-axis RCS controls. I made the Pogo launch and land vertically, mostly to save myself time on routine crew transfers. Not that I don't enjoy spending a half hour of real time getting my glide slope just right and sticking a horizontal landing in the middle of the KSC runway... but yeah. Attached album gives the flying instructions, Here's the link to its page on KerbalX. Also, here is its first appearance in the comic. Enjoy!
  4. We're all going to find out together, I have not tested ANY of these ships in atmosphere And given what folks have been saying about interplanetary aerocapture in 1.0.4... we might not use those shields at all. I think I have enough dV for all the ships to brake clean in some kind of Eve orbit, and then as long as the Gilly lander makes it to ground, I can refuel them. The one ship that might be marginal on braking dV... well, Bob might be annoying, but he's usually right. - - - Updated - - - Yes, I've thought along those lines as well. There's something romantic about a ship maybe possibly not coming through--I could handle that for probes, but not for a big crewed mission, especially when that mission is also fanfiction and I have a storyline plotted that does not include Clauselle being eaten by the Kraken!
  5. And here's the other page: - - - Updated - - - It's less than 1, but more than enough for Duna or Ike. Here's a clear shot of the Hummlebee's belly: Looks like 33 Vernor engines, each with 12kN for a total of 396. Of course they aren't all pointed straight down, so maybe call it 380 or so. Ship mass is 58t fully loaded, and about 30t dry, so that makes it .7g to 1.3g.
  6. Wanted to get two up today, but just time for one page sorry:
  7. Oh, I can do better than that, at least the thing has docking ports! It's just that it's already in solar orbit en route to Eve, so it will take some time for the BattShip to catch up to it.
  8. Outstanding work! Not bad at all for a first post Really enjoyed reading this,+5 for you, and welcome to the forums! And yeah, your crew is not getting off Eve with that ship. But I have no doubt you will rescue them if you put your mind to it!
  9. Hopefully all will be answered in the coming pages This morning's fun was getting the Eve flotilla safely across the Kerbin SOI boundary. I was with the Hummlebee crew on Ike, noticed that the Gilly miner had crossed to solar orbit, went to it--and got the NaN Kraken! Quit game, looked at persistence file: Clauselle and Gregmore showed up in the roster as 'missing' and there was no sign of their ship. Fortunately I had a recent quicksave, and was able to get through safely by making each ship the active one as it crossed. All five (the three crewed ships and two probes) are now in solar orbit with a planar correction burn plotted and an Eve intercept solution! Will catch up in the comic as I can, there are a LOT of ships and screenshots to work with...you'll likely see the Duna mission update first, it's a lot less work.
  10. ^Red had to artificially DEFLATE his, it got so ginormous. And then there was the time it got deflated FOR him
  11. That was fun--love that you used an SRB to de-orbit!
  12. Today's update, a little hop. Wanted to get in position for lowest cost transfer to Kerbin, something tells me I'm going to need all the delta-V I can spare.
  13. Yeah, I know, I'm going to need it if I touch Eve atmosphere with any of these ships. Kagame also warned me about it in a visitor message on my page (which, up to that point, I did not know was a forum feature!) I am hoping to arrive at Eve with enough dV to brake to a safe capture velocity. That safe velocity is some function of minimum altitude/maximum density, but I don't know what that function is yet. Clauselle may have to do some "simulations" (F5/F9) to figure it out. That, or V1.m.n arrives with a perfect "Goldilocks" heating model that makes all things simultaneously possible, challenging, and realistic based on a solar system many times the size of the one we're playing in - - - Updated - - - Heh... not sure if that would be Bob's personal choice, but I bet Tedus will want some of that stuff. - - - Updated - - - Thanks Pete (and too many others to quote!), very glad to have you aboard!
  14. Well, I just noticed there aren't any batteries on my Evestation, hope the solar panels provide enough to run the science lab and refinery. I'd revert and launch again, but I already posted the comic so now I guess it's canon
  15. EveEx Fascination lives up to its name, good looking craft! I see you put heat shields on your Eve ship as well, hope they work for both of us
  16. Haven't you ever heard the story of "the boy who cried abort"? - - - Updated - - - I had to look up DLC, guess I'm not a gamer Yeah, you have to unlock him, costs 800,000 Lego studs or something like that. But hey, he's totally worth it, you'll see... you'll ALL see...
  17. Love the name of your program-- vive la république! Of course if things don't work out, you always have the option to put some bumblebee-shaped rockets on the flag and declare a Third Kempire
  18. Hm, it would be good if there was a different alt_text when you hover over the white bar. Right now when you do so you just get the username, whereas if you hover over a green bar you get "[username] is allowed to draw blueprints",etc. Maybe "[username] is quietly reputable" or some such.
  19. xD And speaking of Eve... NEW COMIC! NEW COMIC! Two threads, no waiting!
  20. Here's Kerbfleet's next big mission, to that great purple eater of ships, Eve! This comic will run concurrently with "Duna, Ore Bust" until that mission's thrilling conclusion. You can find some preview pages for this story at the end of Chapter 4 of the Duna book; naturally there will be more crossovers between the two, and I will be updating each book as I continue the flights in real time. ETA 28 Sept 2015: I added links to the Duna, Ore Bust! chapters in chronological order. If you are reading the comic for the first time, go in this order Read DOB Chapter 1 here Read DOB Chapter 2 here Read DOB Interlude One here Read DOB Chapter 3 here Read DOB Chapter 4 here Read DOB Interlude 2 here Read Eve: Order Zero Chapter 1 and Interlude Here Read DOB Chapter 5 here Read Eve: Order Zero Chapter 2 Here Read Eve: Order Zero Chapter 3 Here Read DOB Interlude 3 here Read DOB Chapter 6 (and end of that book) here Read Eve: Order Zero Chapter 4 Here Read E:O0 Chapter 5 Here Read E:O0 Interlude 2 (The Secret Life of Kenlie Kerman) Here Read E:O0 Chapter 6 Here Read E:O0 Chapter 7 Here Read E:O0 Chapter 8 Here Read E:O0 Interlude 3 (in 3 parts) Here Read E:O0 Chapter 9 Here Read E:O0 Chapter 10 Here Read the E:O0 Postlude Here And now--away we go! Thank you for reading.
  21. He does! Who wouldn't? And it's a callback to second panel of this post, of course. So the bad news is that updates in this thread are going to slow down a bit... the GOOD news is that it's because I've decided to start up the Eve mission comic and run it concurrently with this one! You may recall a bit of a prologue featuring Bob, Clauselle, Dilsby and others... anyway, I've been launching Eve ships while Hummlebee mines Ike, and the flotilla is now on its way out of Kerbin SOI. Look for the Eve stuff to start appearing in a new thread soonish! - - - Updated - - - I almost couldn't either, I should have taken a photo from NY the week before when they were closer. By the way that shot was made with a Lumix micro four thirds digital body with an old-school Pentax 200mm/f2.8 (legacy of my film darkroom days) mounted on an adapter. Closest thing to a telescope that would fit in my luggage
  22. Thank you! Actually I've been meaning to start a Kerbfleet ship thread in Spacecraft Exchange for a while now. Pogo will likely go up first, along with the Gliido LF-only SSTO. I may save Hummlebee until after the mission, I don't want you to know ALL her secrets
